Leeds United vs Liverpool

, KO: 16:30 Sep 12, 2021, Elland Road
Liverpool

LIVERPOOL seem to have rediscovered their mojo but this tricky trip to Leeds will give us a better idea if Jurgen Klopp's men are ready to fight for the Premier League title again.

The Reds gave up their crown without much resistance last season, finishing 19 points behind Manchester City, but injuries to key defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez seriously undermined their chances.

With van Dijk and Matip back in tandem at the start of this campaign, Klopp's side have made an unbeaten start, easing past Norwich and Burnley before drawing 1-1 with Chelsea just before the international break.

That Anfield clash with the European champions was their first major test and another awaits at Elland Road against Marcelo Bielsa's dangerous side.

Leeds have made a slow start, collecting just two points from three games, but remain one of the most exciting teams in England's top flight on their day.

Bielsa bolstered his squad by landing Manchester United winger Daniel James on deadline day and that will add even more pace and energy to their attack.

So Klopp's defence will need to be at the top of their game to snuff Leeds out in what should be an exciting game for a packed Elland Road and armchair fans.

How the bookies view it

Liverpool's impressive start makes them odds-on favourites for this one at a best 4/5 with SportNation. Leeds are 7/2 shots with SBK while the draw pays 3/1 at Unibet.

Recent head to head

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 10 games against Leeds but Bielsa's side certainly made the Reds sweat last season. These sides battled out a 4-3 thriller at Anfield on the opening day then Diego Llorente's late goal salvaged a 1-1 draw for Leeds in the Ellland Road return (below).

Players to watch

Leeds winger Raphina could get a bit of joy as Liverpool's full-backs both like to push forward. The Brazilian scored in the 2-2 draw with Everton, a game where Slip Tips came up with another winning bet builder, and is 4/1 at SportingIndex to net against the red half of Merseyside.

It's hard to look past Mo Salah for a Liverpool goal as he has two for the season already and hit a hat-trick against Leeds last term. The Egyptian is 21/20 with BetVictor for anytime scorer but the odds increase to 37/10 at SBK for him to break the deadlock.

Anything else catch the eye?

Going for goals is always the best option with Leeds as Bielsa goes on the attack even against the biggest teams in England. Both teams to score is just 10/17 with SBK here though and you have to go to over 3.5 goals to boost the odds to 6/4 at BetVictor.

With a passionate home crowd behind them, Leeds should start on the front foot so the 5/4 on offer at Bet365 for them to win the first corner looks a decent option. In last season's Elland Road clash we saw 18 corners in total so the 9/4 on offer at William Hill for each team to win over one corner in each half seems great value.

There isn't much between these sides if Leeds hit top form and it should be a tight game, with the half-time draw paying 6/4 at SBK.
