Latvia vs Wales

, KO: 19:45 Sep 11, 2023, Skonto Stadium
Wales

WALES will be looking to breathe some life into their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign when they lock horns with Latvia at the Skonto Stadium on Monday night.

Rob Page's side picked up an unexpected point in their opener away at Croatia before grinding out a 1-0 win at home to Latvia just three days later.

However, the Dragons' form has since fallen off a cliff, slumping to a deflating 4-2 home defeat to Armenia and then losing 2-0 to Turkey, in a game which brought up my main bet.

That means second-bottom Wales have no room for error in their quest to qualify for Euro 2024 when they head to Riga on matchday five.

Meanwhile, Latvia are propping up the section having lost each of their opening four Group D assignments, the most recent of which was a 5-0 crushing from Croatia.

Latvia boss Dainis Kazakevics is now tasked with lifting the spirits of his side ahead of a visit from Wales on Monday night.

Outright Betting

The bookmakers' odds suggest Latvia will not be able to arrest their slide on Monday night, with a home win trading at 13/2 (PaddyPower) while the draw is also deemed unlikely at 16/5 (Bet 365).

Despite not winning a match outside of their own country for almost two years, Wales are odds-on 1/2 (Bet 365) favourites to claim top honours in the Latvian capital.

Betting Angles

Here, I think the visitors are if anything a tad short, but merging Wales to win, Under 4.5 Goals and Over 2 Wales Corners will bring about a nice looking 10/11 (Bet 365) Bet Builder.

While Wales have fast become mainstays at major tournaments in modern times, scoring goals by the bucket load isn't what the Dragons do.

That is evidenced by the fact that a whopping 19 of Wales' last 21 victories have featured four match goals or fewer, and I suspect they will record another solid if unspectacular success on Monday night.

As already alluded to, Latvia have tasted defeat in each of their four group games thus far, not to mention the Baltic nation have failed to win any of their last nine matches inside 90 minutes.

Given that Wales are going through a period of transition, they may have to show some patience here, so I'll round off the Bet Builder with a minimum of three Welsh corners.

This 10/11 (Bet 365) Bet Builder would have paid out in the reverse fixture and a similar workmanlike win here holds appeal here for a Dragons side in desperate need of a victory.

Elsewhere, I'll also dip into the To Score or Assist market where Brennan Johnson stands out at 5/6 with William Hill.

The new Spurs signing has either notched or assisted in four of his last six competitive starts for his country and he looks worthy of interest to have direct goal involvement here against the leaky Latvians.

This match between Latvia and Wales will be played on Sep 11, 2023 and kick off at 19:45. Check below for our tipsters best Latvia vs Wales prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
