Juventus vs Spezia

, KO: 19:45 Mar 2, 2021, Juventus Stadium
Spezia

IT looks like Juventus' domestic dominance is coming to an end and another slip-up in this clash with Spezia would all but kill off their faltering Serie A title defence.

The champions are now 10 points behind Inter Milan at the top after drawing 1-1 with Verona on Saturday, albeit they still have a game in hand. Their bid for a 10th successive title seems doomed to failure and rookie boss Andrea Pirlo is toiling after being thrown in at the deep end.

It's now just one win in five games in all competitions for Juve so they desperately need to get back on track against a Spezia side looking to stay clear of the drop zone.

Juve follow up this clash with massive games at home to Lazio and Porto, with Pirlo's side looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit in that Euro tie to keep their Champions League dream alive.

They need to start building some momentum but Spezia won't be pushovers, having lost just once in their last four games. Vincenzo Italiano's men are seven points clear of the relegation places but won't be able to relax until they pick up a few more points.

How the bookies view it

Despite their poor form, Juventus are still heavy favourites at a best 3/11 with SBK while Spezia are as big as 13/1 with the same firm. The stalemate pays 6/1.

Recent head to head

These sides have only met twice before and it's honours even. Spezia claimed a shock 3-2 win in Turin when Juventus were slumming it in Serie B after the Calciopoli scandal back in 2007.

Juve got their revenge earlier this season when they romped to a 4-1 win in Spezia, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting twice (below).

Players to watch

It's hard to look past Ronaldo (below) for a Juve goal, given he has three in his last two games and netted a double against Spezia earlier in the season. Unfortunately, the superstar is poor value for anytime scorer at a best 9/20 with Betfred.

To increase the odds you have to back him to score first (2/1, Bet365), a bet that landed for our man Tolu in the weekend clash with Verona. William Hill offer 21/10 on Ronaldo scoring two or more while Skybet have him at a boosted 5/1 to net a header.

Emmanuel Gyasi scored both Spezia goals in their 2-2 weekend draw with Parma and has four from his last six games. The Ghanaian is a little overpriced at 6/1 for anytime scorer here.

Anything else catch the eye?

There should be goals given both past meetings of these sides delivered five apiece. Spezia have also conceded a total of five goals in their last two games so I expect Juve to get some joy.

Over 2.5 match goals is decent for accumulators at 3/4 with TonyBet while over 2.5 Juventus goals is better at 185/100 with the same firm.

A goal in both halves is only worthwhile for accas at a best 4/7 with William Hill but the odds increase to 17/20 with William Hill if you limit that to just Juve scoring.

There was a penalty when these sides met earlier this season and another spot-kick being awarded pays 13/8 at McBookie.
