Fresh from their victory in the Italian Super Cup, Inter Milan turn their attention to Serie A as they host Empoli in a Monday night fixture.
Inter Milan are on a high and are currently unbeaten in their last 12 matches across all competitions. Among their results in that run is a 3-0 victory over Serie A champions AC Milan in the Italian Super Cup.
The Nerazzurri appear to have fully recovered from their early season struggles and are slowly playing themselves back into title contention, although they are still 10 points off the pace. Simone Inzaghi’s men have claimed eight wins and a draw from their last 10 Serie A matches and edged out Verona 1-0 in their previous fixture.
The San Siro is also slowly regaining its status as a fortress with Inter Milan winning eight of their last nine matches, including a 1-0 victory over Serie A leaders Napoli. While they have claimed some one-sided wins in that run, the defence has also stood out with six clean sheets.
Empoli's campaign appears to be heading towards an unremarkable end as they are not currently challenging for much at the moment. Sitting 12th on the table, they hold a comfortable lead over the relegation zone and are also well off the pace in the race for European football.
In truth, it has not been a particularly bad season for Empoli, who have shown flashes of quality to go unbeaten in seven of their last eight matches across all competitions. They have claimed four wins in that run, including a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria in their previous Serie A fixture.
The major problem for Empoli is a poor record on their travels having claimed just one win away from home all season. Paolo Zanetti’s men often struggle against the big sides on the road and lost 4-0 to Napoli before suffering a 2-0 defeat at Juventus.
