Greece vs Kosovo

, KO: 19:45 Nov 14, 2021, Athens Olympic
Kosovo

The top two places have already been decided in Group B of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with the rest of the teams now only playing for pride. Greece will be looking to end their campaign on a positive note when they take on Kosovo in their final Group fixture.

Qualifying from a group that includes Spain and Sweden was always going to be a long shot but Greece have put up a commendable fight. They are now out of contention for even the playoffs following a 1-0 defeat to Spain on Thursday.

Greece have lost just two matches in the qualifiers and up until that defeat to Spain, were in the mix to make at least the playoffs. They claimed a number of impressive results in the group, including a 2-1 victory over Sweden, who where top of the standings at the time.

Manager John van’t Schip will be targeting a similar performance in their final fixture on Sunday as the Greeks look to end their campaign on a high.

Kosovo have been the whipping boys of the group having claimed just one win from their seven matches so far. They have suffered five defeats in that run and are set to finish bottom of the group.

Primoz Gliha’s men were beaten 2-1 by Georgia in their previous qualifying fixture with Vedat Muriqi getting their only goal. They travel to Greece off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Jordan in a friendly on Thursday.

Goals have also been a problem for Kosovo, who have failed to score in two of their last three qualifying matches.

How the bookies view it

Greece are considered favourites among the bookies at 4/6 with Vbet while an unlikely victory for Kosovo is valued at 24/5 by Unibet. A draw is set at odds of 14/5 with Unibet.

Head to head

Greece have never lost to Kosovo, claiming one win and two draws from three previous matches. Both teams battled to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture back in September.

Players to watch

Anastasios Bakasetas has been one of the stars for Greece and has scored in two of his last three qualifying matches. The forward is expected to continue in attack and can ensure the Greeks find the net at 19/100 with Vbet.

Given Kosovo’s struggles in attack, Greece will be targeting a shutout on Sunday. Giorgios Tzavellas and Dimitrios Goutas often feature in defence for the Greeks and can guide the team to a clean sheet at evens with Paddy Power.

Anything else catch the eye?

Given Kosovo’s struggles in attack, a win to nil for Greece can be considered at 7/5 with Paddy Power. The Greeks could also be backed in the -1 handicap market at 15/8 with Unibet.

Greece have seen more goals before the break in their last three matches, so the first half can be tipped as the highest scoring half at 23/10 with Paddy Power.
