The game is sandwiched between home friendlies against Walsall and Real Sociedad, while Porto will use the occasion as their annual members' presentation match, introducing the first-team squad individually before kick-off in front of a packed home crowd.
Villa arrive as reigning Europa League champions after lifting the trophy in Istanbul and backing that up with a fourth-place Premier League finish on 65 points. Unai Emery used 23 players across the evening, handing new signing Joao Gomes 45 minutes as he continues to integrate several fresh arrivals into the squad.
The summer has been one of significant change at Villa Park. Youri Tielemans has joined Manchester United, Morgan Rogers has completed a British-record move to Chelsea, Lucas Digne is expected to follow him out of the club and Amadou Onana faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury at the World Cup.

Nehuen Perez, Alan Varela and Samu Aghehowa all featured, confirming they were available throughout preseason despite earlier confusion surrounding World Cup involvement. Club president Andre Villas-Boas attended the fixture in person, underlining the importance Porto are placing on preparations ahead of the new campaign, although Martim Fernandes, Vasco Sousa and Samu continue to have their workloads carefully managed.

Player to watch: Brian Madjo looks the real deal
Brian Madjo could hardly have made a better first impression. The 17-year-old scored twice on his Villa debut against Walsall following his £10 million move from Metz and immediately became one of the talking points of preseason.
The Luxembourg youth international has already earned a place in Unai Emery's early plans despite uncertainty over his competitive registration, with FIFA currently preventing him from being registered until he turns 18 in January 2027. Another strong display against considerably stronger opposition would only increase the excitement surrounding one of Villa's brightest young prospects.

Porto are not only the reigning Portuguese champions but will also be playing at home on one of the club's biggest preseason occasions, with the annual squad presentation traditionally adding extra intensity despite the friendly status of the fixture.
Villa, meanwhile, remain a work in progress following a summer of significant departures and several new arrivals. Emery is still assessing combinations across the pitch and is unlikely to place too much emphasis on the final result, but the performance level against stronger opposition should provide a far better indication of where his squad currently stands.
Both teams possess plenty of attacking quality, while neither is expected to field a fully settled defence this early in preseason. Porto's attacking numbers last season remained among the best in Portugal despite their underlying overperformance, while Villa showed against Walsall that they still carry plenty of threat despite losing several key players during the summer.
If markets become available, both teams to score would be the early lean. Porto have every incentive to put on a show for their supporters, while Villa's attacking options should create opportunities even if Emery once again rotates heavily throughout the evening.
