DUNDEE need to beat Caley Thistle in a live TV clash on Sunday if they are to have a chance of qualifying from their group in the Viaplay Cup.
The Dens Park side are sitting behind Airdrie – who they surprisingly lost to last week in Lanarkshire – and need to win against Inverness to have a chance of making one of the three best runners-up spots. They could even win the group if Airdrie lose at Bonnyrigg Rose.
Tony Docherty's side were too strong for League Two Dumbarton on Wednesday and eventually won 3-1.
The new Dundee boss has brought in an intriguing mix of players this summer after his surprise appointment and Mexican duo Diego Pineda and Antonio Portales both played in midweek. He's also just signed Sierra Leone hitman Amadou Bakayoko
Scott Tiffoney should be an inspired signing from Partick Thistle if he can replicate his form last season and Zach Robinson has already netted for the Dee with a double against Dumbarton in midweek.
Caley Thistle have nothing to play for and have been disappointing in their campaign so far. They started off with a narrow win over Bonnyrigg Rose, but then lost to League Two Dumbarton away and Airdrie at home.

Dundee are solid favourites here and you won't get better than 13/20 with William Hill. The Highlanders are 19/4 with Coral and the draw is 3/1 with bet365.
Recent head to heads
The sides were in the Championship together last season and it couldn't have been tighter. There were two draws and an away win apiece. But Dundee won the league and Inverness didn't even make the play-offs.
Players to watch
Diego Pineda was praised by Docherty for making an impact on his debut this week. The former Club America striker will want to continue after scoring on his debut.
Billy McKay has continued where he left off last season for Inverness and the veteran striker has already scored twice this season. Prices should appear for both players on the day of the game.
Anything else catch the eye?
Dundee have to be backed here and there are optimistic signs coming from Tayside for their return to the Premiership.
Inverness have already conceded six goals in their three games and with this just a glorified training exercise for them, they could concede a few more here too.
Take a chance at 12/5 with William Hill on the hosts to score three goals or more.
Inverness could certainly contribute here too though and they do usually score – they even managed it against Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final.
