Crystal Palace vs Brighton

, KO: 20:00 Sep 27, 2021, Selhurst Park
Brighton

MONDAY night football comes from Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace meet Brighton in the first M23 derby of the season.

The Eagles started off the campaign with a 3-0 loss at Chelsea but showed gradual signs of improvement in each of the three fixtures that followed.

Patrick Viera's side shared the spoils with both Brentford and West Ham respectively before recording a convincing 3-0 win over Tottenham two-weeks ago.

Palace were brought down a peg or two in a 3-0 loss at Liverpool last weekend and Monday's meeting with rivals Brighton will be another stern test of Viera's new-look side.

Graham Potter's possession-based style of play has earned Brighton plenty of plaudits in recent years and it finally looks to be bearing fruit.

Albion found wins hard to come by for most of last season but they have won four of their opening five top-flight assignments this term and another triumph in south London would send the Seagulls to the summit of the Premier League table.

Outright Betting

Crystal Palace have avoided defeat in each of their last four meetings with Brighton but the Eagles head into this encounter as 11/5 (SBK) outsiders while a point apiece pays 21/10 (SBK) with the same bookmaker.

Brighton have won six of their seven matches across all competitions this season and another Seagulls success is trading at 20/13 with SBK.

Betting Angles

History shows that goals tend to flow in this fixture and I suspect another entertaining encounter could be in the offing at a Selhurst Park on Monday night.

Seven of the last eight league and cup contests between the clubs have ended with both teams getting on the scoresheet.

Sure, just two of Brighton's opening five league fixtures have featured three or more goals but the south coast side have posted just two clean sheets across their last 10 top-flight road trips.

Palace, on the other hand, have shipped two or more goals in 3/5 league games, with over 2.5 strikes copping in all but one of their top-flight outings thus far.

New Eagles chief Patrick Viera has promised a more expansive playing style this season and the Londoners have looked a more threatening attacking unit as of late, notching five goals across their last three league fixtures.

Graham Potter Brighton

Given that neither defence is particularly watertight and each side looks capable in attack, backing both teams make the net bulge at even-money (SBK) makes plenty of appeal at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

I'll also head to the Bet Builder market and combine each team to hit 3+ corners and each team to see at least one card, a nice looking 10/11 play at Bet 365.

Hosts Palace have hit 3+ corners in 4/5 league games so far, while in-form Brighton are traditionally strong flag kick performers, hitting 3+ in each of their opening five fixtures of the new season.

Indeed, referee Andre Marriner is one of the Premier League's more lenient match officials but it's worth noting that the Birmingham-born whistler has booked each team in 15 of the last 27 top-flight tussles he has taken charge of.

What's more, the aforementioned Bet Builder has banked in three of Brighton's last four Premier League matches and that only adds to the appeal of supporting the same formula in what is expected to be a pulsating encounter and fantastic atmosphere under the Selhurst Park lights.
