Martin O'Neill memorably led Celtic to a European final in his first spell as manager and he will be channelling the spirit of 2003 for this Europa League play-off tie with Stuttgart.
The Hoops beat the German side en route to the UEFA Cup Final before coming up short in extra-time against Jose Mourinho's Porto.
But the landscape has changed dramatically since then and Celtic can no longer attract world-class players such as Henrik Larsson to Parkhead.
O'Neill has been keeping them in the hunt domestically after Wilfried Nancy's disastrous reign, mainly thanks to a series of dramatic late winners.
They've scored stoppage-time goals in their last three games against Kilmarnock, Livingston and Dundee but those memorable moments have masked poor performances.
And you get the feeling Celtic will need to up their game dramatically to stand a chance against strong Bundesliga opposition.
Stuttgart have won five of their last six games and sit fourth in the German top flight so they will fancy their chances of avenging that defeat from 23 years ago.
How the bookies view it: Stuttgart in the box seat
O'Neill has tasted defeat just once across his two spells as stand-in boss this season, a 3-1 loss to Midtjylland in Europe. But his side are 23/10 outsiders with most firms tonight, with Stuttgart favourites at 6/5 with Unibet and the draw paying 13/5 with BetMGM.
Head to head: Hoops eye repeat of 2003
That UEFA Cup clash back in 2003 is the only previous time these sides have collided in Europe. Celtic won 3-1 at Parkhead in the first leg then went 2-0 up inside 14 minutes in Germany, only for Stuttgart to rally and claim a 3-2 win in the second leg.
Players to watch: Tounekti a vital spark
Sebastian Tounekti made game-changing contributions off the bench in Celtic's wins over Dundee and Kilmarnock and that should earn him a start for this one. The Tunisian winger is a tempting 8/5 with Bet365 to score or assist.
Ermedin Demirovic will head to Scotland in high spirits after netting a double for Stuttgart in their weekend win over Cologne. The Bosnian international is 11/10 at Bet365 to score or assist and that looks good value.

Probable line-ups
Arne Engels has joined Celtic's lengthy injury list, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is ineligible. Yang Hyun-jun and Reo Hatate could drop out after dreadful displays at Rugby Park on Sunday.
Lazar Jovanovic and Dan-Axel Zagadou remain sidelined for Stuttgart while Nikolas Nartey, Luca Jaquez and Justin Diehl are doubts.
Celtic: Schmeichel, Araujo, Trusty, Scales, Saracchi, McGregor, Bernardo, Nygren, Maeda, Tounekti, Cvancara.
Stuttgart: Nubel, Mittelstadt, Assignon, Chabot, Jeltsch, Stiller, Fuhrich, Undav, Bouanani, Andres, Demirovic.
Anything else catch the eye?
Celtic's defence has been looking fragile of late and they've kept just one clean sheet in their last seven games. The Hoops have also conceded two or more goals in each of their last three European games so over 1.5 Stuttgart strikes stands a chance here at 21/20 with BetGoodwin.
The Hoops probably need a win at home to stand a chance of going through so they should be on the front foot. Benjamin Nygren usually has a few cracks at goal and the Swedish midfielder is 9/4 at Bet365 for over 1.5 efforts on target.
Both keepers could be busy and the evens on offer at the same firm for Stuttgart's Alexander Nubel to make over 2.5 saves looks decent.
Hoops full-back Julian Araujo likes to get stuck in and he's a tempting 2/1 with Bet365 to commit over 1.5 fouls.
