Brisbane Roar vs Perth GloryA League, KO: 10:05 Jun 2, 2021, Moreton Daily Stadium
Brisbane Roar continue their quest for a playoff finish as they host Perth Glory in an A-League clash at Moreton Daily Stadium. Brisbane have a fine record at home and should edge past the visitors who are poor travellers this season.
Brisbane Roar suffered a 2-0 defeat at Western Sydney Wanderers last time out in the A-League. They will consider themselves unlucky to come away empty handed after creating several goal scoring opportunities but failing to find a way past the goalkeeper.
Manager Warren Moon will be disappointed with the defeat and is likely to take the positives from the game as his team were dominant and created multiple chances. Sitting fifth on the table, two points above seventh placed Wellington Phoenix, a win on Wednesday will secure their place in the final series playoff.
Brisbane will be keen to make a swift return to winning ways having won their two matches prior to the defeat at Western Sydney. They are also on a seven-match unbeaten run at home, winning two of the last three, including a 3-0 victory against newly crowned Premiers Melbourne City.
Perth Glory played out a 2-2 draw at Wellington Phoenix in their previous A-League fixture. They fought back from a goal down to lead thanks to efforts from Bruno Fornaroli and Callum Timmins but could not hold on for the win.
After struggling for much of the season, a run of four wins and two draws have seen Perth Glory play themselves into contention for a playoff spot. They are three points off the top six but will have to rely on other results to secure a place in the final series.
While Perth Glory’s recent form is impressive, it should be noted that five of their last six matches have been played at home. Richard Garcia’s men remain poor travellers and are winless in their last seven away matches, suffering four defeats in that run.
How the bookies view it
Brisbane Roar go into Wednesday’s match as favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 11/10 with Unibet. Bet365 is offering 13/5 for a Perth Glory Victory while a draw is valued at 37/13 by SBK.
Given Perth Glory’s struggles on the road this season, I am backing Brisbane Roar to secure the win on Wednesday.
Head to head
Brisbane Roar have the upper hand in this fixture with 23 wins from 48 previous matches. Perth Glory have claimed 14 victories while there have been 11 draws between both teams.
Perth Glory claimed a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in February but Brisbane Roar are unbeaten in three of the last four meetings.
Players to watch
Much of Brisbane Roar’s goals come from midfield with Riku Danzaki their top scorer with eight goals while Jay O’Shea has found the net three times in his last three matches. Striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls has also found the net seven times this season and all three men can ensure the hosts score over 1.5 goals at 9/10 with Red Zone.
Perth Glory will be hoping striker Bruno Fornaroli can continue his scoring form having found the net 12 times this season. With support from fellow forwards Andy Keogh and Nicholas D'Agostino, Perth have the quality to score over 1.5 goals at odds of 6/4 with bet365.
Anything else catch the eye?
There were over 3.5 goals in the last meeting between Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory and BetVictor is offering 17/10 for a similar outcome. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 5/7 by Sport Nation, who are also offering 7/11 on both teams to score.
Brisbane Roar are likely to grab the first goal at 8/11 with betway while they could also be backed to score in both halves at 7/4 with Sporting Index.
