SNOOKER tops the bill today and after four-times world title-holder John Higgins was sent packing from the Champion of Champions yesterday it's current Crucible king Mark Selby in action this afternoon.

The Jester from Leicester should avoid being made to look a fool by veteran Steve Davis who is a massive 15-2 to roll back the years and pull off a shock win in their Group Two best-of-seven-frame clash in Coventry.

The other game in the section is more closely matched with Glasgow potter Stephen Maguire a 7-5 shot to beat Judd Trump, who is 8-13. The winner of the two ties will meet in the group final, best of 11, at 7pm.

Ding Junhui is the first player to book a semi-final spot after winning Group Four with a thrilling 6-5 win over Barry Hawkins yesterday.

There's plenty of NHL action getting under way just after midnight with the likes of Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks and current Stanley Cup holders LA Kings – who are 21-20 to beat Dallas Stars – all playing.

For a more sedate sporting experience, Commonwealth Games hero Darren Burnett is going for more glory as the Scottish Open bowls reaches round two.

As Ernie asked about tennis on the old thread I’ll put up a treble for the day here. But bear in mind that end of season WTA is not the easiest thing to call!

    In order of confidence:
    Niculescu d Razzano
    Siniakova d Voegele
    Putintseva d Hesse

    Double pays 1.96
    Treble pays 2.84

I’ll be hanging on to the bulk of my tennis betting balance for the ATP tour finals, but that will do for a little interest today.

Ante-post Superbowl bets. odds at Coral

    NEW ORLEANS SAINTS 12/1
    DENVER BRONCOS 6/1
    SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS 12/1
    INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 28/1

Having seen who I picked in some of my ante-post bets, you will see I fancy the New Orleans Saints to be in the NFC Championship game. No team since 2005 have won back to back Superbowls and that was the New England Patriots. Seattle should be there are there abouts, but for me I prefer the look of Green Bay and San Francisco to contest the NFC Championship game with New Orleans. I opted for the niners due to the depth of the roster, despite some injuries they will return during the second half of the season and can build momentum heading into the post season.

In the AFC Championship game, it would be a huge surprise if Peyton Manning doesn’t get his Broncos side there. They were blown away in the Superbowl in February and with a couple of experienced guys signed on defence that should help them. Their division should be pretty straight forward so a trip to the post season looks on, then the hard works starts. Their opponents could New England Patriots, I seen a lot of experts tipping them, but I like Indianapolis Colts chances.

They blew a first round draft pick on trading for Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson last season, but did take three offensive guys in the draft including WR Moncief, who will give QB Luck another option in the passing game. This is a QB league so I think Colts will win their division and set up a meeting with their old hero Peyton Manning in the AFC Championship game. These two meet on Sunday in week 1, so we may get an appetiser for the big game come next year.

I will be shocked if one of these sides are not in the Championship game. Enjoy the season and tonight’s game.

The second half of the NFL season as just begun and this was my ante post NFL thoughts for the season ahead which I posted before the season started. The AFC looking pretty decent, NFC looks bit more tricky but still chances.

Ad saw your comment regards Colts and yeah they still got a chance, only worry would be their secondary going up against a Brady or Manning.

    DeAndre Seattle wont repeat :D

DeAndre I think its safe to say Indiana are playing terrible atm with no depth and almost no ticker either. Might be worth staying away from them until they find something :-)

Dang it only just found this thread. I don’t know about those Niners chief but your other Ante posts are living up to it so far! Ahhhh TNF in 24 hours. Beautiful. Starting to look forward to any NFL game more than watching my own red devils!

  22. Jordan 9 years ago

Just an early one for TNF as I’ve got no player totals yet. Mohamed Sanu Anytime TD @ EVS. This guy has made some big plays in the past few weeks. 400 yards in his last four games with two TD’s. Tempted on the AJ Green Wincast @ 6/4 too. Think the Bengals will cover the spread, Browns barely scrapped their victory on Sunday against Tampa Bay. I’m guessing a 31-17 Bengals win.
