Mr Fixit’s Top Tips: VAR is lost but war can be won

SATURDAY proved to be like most Saturdays with frustrating results across the board.

I actually quite liked the card but was undone by a couple of shocks including Peterhead losing at home to a Dumbarton side that had been pointless and Hibs conceding an injury-time own goal to draw with Morton inside 90 minutes in the Betfred Cup.

The Hamilton draw no bet Super Single as void as they held Killie 0-0 before losing in extra time and the both to score treble just lacked a Carlisle goal.

It was a disappointing day but I'd been on a good run and profit for the month is still high.

I'm sure Man City players and fans must have been even more gutted after VAR ruled out Gabriel Jesus' last-gasp sizzler. The game probably needs VAR but when do you celebrate a goal – Jesus and his supporters went tonto only to be brought back down to earth.

And the guy next to me in the Sunday Mail saw a nice win at the bookies taken away in the blink of an eye. Worse than VAR though is the new handball rule that cost City the win – it need to be looked at.

My best call was Teemu Pukki to score first at 9-2 and tipping to Norwich to win and concede but while the Canaries bets were on the Super Single shortlist I didn't pick them on the top tips.

Star of the day was Desmond who was so close to a 50-1 full house with six out of seven winners on his goals tips. For what seemed like ages he just needed a QPR goal so at least he could have covered and had two winning lines.

Been working so don't know exactly who won on Saturday but there were plenty on the comments so well done to everyone.

The VAR is lost for now but the war with bookies goes on and plenty to look at on Sunday.

In the Premier League it's Chelsea v Leicester and Sheffield Utd v Crystal Palace while in the Betfred Cup Rangers go to East Fife and Aberdeen travel to Dundee.

I'm starting wSunday's tips with a both to score treble from Holland and France. First up it's Twente v RKC and while it should be a home win the visitors can hit the target here.

Both meetings last season saw both scoring and over 3.5 goals and Twente have conceded in their first two matches with RKC netting at VVV.

Feyenoord v Utrecht can also land. Again the home men are favourites but their openers have both been score draws. Utrecht are an improving side and have netted seven goals in their first two while conceding in both. Feyenoord's first two games have also brought up btts.

Now to France and to a grudge match between Rennes and PSG. It was 2-1 to the champs in the Super Cup as they partly avenged their French Cup Final defeat – a game that saw Neymar row with a fan and he hadn't played since.

PSG won here 3-1 last season and the last five meetings in Brittany have totalled 29 goals with both scoring in the previous five.

For a Top Treble I'm starting with Sheffield United not to lose at home to Crystal Palace. Norwich were superb against Newcastle yesterday and by all accounts Aston Villa were unlucky lose to to Bournemouth.

Bramall Lane will be rocking as Premier League football returns and Chris Wilder's men can give a good account of themselves against a Palace outfit that was powderpuff against Everton last week.

Next take Rangers -1 at East Fife in the Betfred Cup. Steven Gerrard will rotate after a hectic spell for the club but he's got a decent-sized squad and his fringe men should be way too strong for the League One outfit. If you have any doubts about this wait for team lines but up top it should be Jermain Defoe or at worst Greg Stewart.

Rangers have been scoring goals for fun and if they're serious could score any number and there's no way Gerrard will take any chances as he tries to stop Celtic winning 10 trophies in a row.

Complete the treble with Atletico Madrid who launch their La Liga campaign at home to Getafe. It won't be an easy opener as Atletico start life without Antoine Griezmann but they've spent every penny of his transfer and more by bringing in Portuguese wonderkid Felix for £113million from Benfica as well as the likes of Felipe from Porto and Kieran Trippier from Spurs.

If anything Atletico look stronger as they attempt to keep up their challenge with Barcelona and Real Madrid and should start with three points.
