TONIGHT'S fixtures come with a wealth warning – especially when looking at a massive English League Cup card.

It's now been renamed the Carabao Cup after sponsorship by a drinks firm and we might need something stronger after studying the card.

This is always a tough gig as even at this stage of the season some clubs just want the game out of the way to concentrate on league business. New players will be tried out and some formations experimented on so tread carefully.

Matches include Cardiff v Portsmouth, Luton v Ipswich, Wolves v Yeovil and Reading v Gillingham. I'll be looking for goals rather than results and that's something I've learned from the past.

Luton, Bradford, Bristol City, Norwich and Wolves are sides I'd consider in normal circumstances and I might put up a WDW bet after seeing starting line-ups.

It's a different story in Scotland for the last-16 Betfred Cup clashes. Every time – bar maybe Celtic – will field their strongest available line-up and that makes predictions easier.

Celtic face Killie, Hibs entertain Ayr, Partick Thistle travel to St Johnstone and Falkirk meet Championship rivals Livingston. I've posted a separate preview as well as a goals treble with reasoning. The Super Single is a double on Celtic -1 and Hibs to score 2+.

Last night could have been a no-bet day but I ended up posting a 1pt treble that lost in the third leg with St Pauli drawing against Dynamo Dresden.

Well done to all the winners and I'll put up top tips in the morning.

Remember to check out Welovebetting for their latest tips and video chat. They also had a super Saturday.

Love it when a plan comes together – final score 1-1 ?

Not as much time as I’d like to try and justify myself here so I’ll try and get point across briefly – in essence, I’m not quite seeing why the bookies have a certain Bolivian match priced to such an extreme…

SAN JOSÉ VS. BLOOMING (2215 KO):

Yes, I’d have San Jose priced as the favourites based on Blooming’s pretty poor away form and the outcome of the last H2H that saw the hosts run out 3-0 winners…BUT, I certainly wouldn’t have the away side at 8/1!

Not suggesting for a second that I think they can or will win but a price so big opens up value elsewhere – as it is, Blooming are actually in a decent spell of form with only 1 loss in 5 including a draw and 3 wins…two were against high fliers The Strongest and Yacuiba!

Here’s the clincher; the two have met 10 times in the last 3 seasons and in 80% of those games Blooming have won drawn OR been beaten by a margin of only 1 goal.

One selection and it’s too generous to ignore:

    BLOOMING -2 H/CAP…5/6

no bet in football is guaranteed but with a bit of research you can get “ahead” of the bookies

Last year I started doing 2-3 match goals after I saw wato doing well with them and one league that it comes up a lot in is the Portuguese Segunda! I didn’t bet on the weekends games as I wanted to see if this trend continued and it did with 8 out of the 9 games played finishing with 2-3 match goals! Keep an eye out for this and I will be posting tips on this bet and league most weeks as the odds are always around evens

Tonight there is one game between
    Oliveirense and Benfica B

    2-3 match goals is 20/21

I will only be putting a small stake on

    • -wato- 7 years ago

Excellent didn’t realise that over the weekend I normally wait until 5/6 games into a season. Couldn’t agree more mate Portugal is a great league for that market. Other favourites of mine are Argentina, Brazil (Serie B), English Championship, Spain Segunda Division, Italy Serie B, France (Ligue 2, National), Poland and the Scottish Premiership.

    • maccathered 7 years ago

I would be a bit wary on this market in Benfica b games as they tend to enter into higher scoring games than other portugese teams.

    • nate pesh 7 years ago

      Only small stake

3 of the last 4 matches at this stadium have finished 1-2 to benfica

    • alex_mufc83 7 years ago

Interesting. Will keep an eye on how you get on, good luck

    • jos 7 years ago

The beauty of 2-3 goals is that there are 8 results to be had between the playing teams. 1-1 2-0 2-1 3-0. Is a good market.

    Vikingur Reykjavik v IBV Vestmannaeyjar

Vikingur have been pretty average at home this season. However, that could change tonight when they host Vestmannaeyjar, whose away form is the worst in the league (W:1 L:5 , although they do have a recent away cup win). In the 6 away games that Vestmannaeyjar have played on the road, there have been 27 goals, so the average is well over 3 a game and they are more than capable of nicking a goal themselves. At home, Vikingur stats are slightly less favorable, although there have still been 17 in 6 so still a decent total. Recent home games for the hosts include a 1-0 defeat to the league leaders Valur and a 3-0 hammering from KR. However, these are much superior teams to IBV and I think Vikingur should score a couple tonight. BTTS and overs has also come up in 5/6 in all matches for IBV Vestmannaeyjar, so everything points to goals here.

    O2.5 mgls 3/4 (marathonbet)
    O1.5 Vikingur goals 97/100

@hullshaker – any thoughts on this one mate, your opinion on all things Icelandic always appreciated?

    • liamw 7 years ago

BTTS and overs also a possibility, 5/6 at hills

    • HullShaker 7 years ago

Good luck Liam – don’t underestimate IBV – they are an alright side and have (arguably) looked stronger than Vikingur so far.

IBV also have a better H2H record having won 4 of the last 7…BTTS & OVER could be tge best shout ?

    • liamw 7 years ago

Thanks Hull, appreciate the info. Perhaps the most likely scoreline could be a 2-1 either way or 2-2 so BTTS and Overs it is! Cheers and good luck with your bets tonight, I’ll be on.

RUSSIA: Premier League ( ko 9 pm )

    SKA Khabarovsk v FK Anzi Makhackala – Draw @ 27/10 ? ? ?

    ( score prediction 1-1 @ 11/2 ? )

Judging by both sides recent performances, a draw is the most likely result here. I’ve also noticed that when 2 teams promote or relegate and when they play each other most of the time it ends by a draw.

    • pudney 7 years ago

I guess your on the match ending in a draw then?

Awaiting team news before I place a bet but my Wolves are playing Yeovil in the cup tonight on the back of there 8-2 battering and our win against the Boro.

Now we have become the most hated team to the UK media and some of the rubbish from the likes of Sky will only add fire to our players now we finally have a quality manager at the helm.

If we name a strong team then I’ll be looking at -2 or -3 on the handicap.

A strong fancy though for me is

Bright Enokbahare ATGS at 13/8 with Skybet.

He’s young and has looked s**t hot lately with the only issue being composure and decision making in front of goal. I think a lot of this is down to confidence and once he starts firing he could be something very special. I can see him scoring 1 or 2 tonight if he plays.

    COYW
No one likes us but we don’t care haha

    • interyernan 7 years ago

A fellow Wolves fan!! I was at the game Saturday…completely agree on Enokbahare he is lively but there were plenty of times I was shouting “pass the ball” or shoot” before he fumbled or made the wrong choice. Wolves should have plenty of chances tonight and depending on what team is out I would fancy us to score a few. COYW

    • richb20806 7 years ago

Same here mate. Was in the southbank and every time he was in the box we were “come on shoot”… really think it’s confidence with him myself but tonight could be perfect for him to get on the sheet.

Waiting on team news as it’s impossible to tell whether Nuno will put the first or second string out…..

Even the second string should win decisively…. how often have we been able to say this about the wolves? Haha

Did you see the Neves pass to Doc on Saturday? All over social media at the moment. Shockingly good

Russian bets were dross. scratching my head here. apologies.

  18. Johnb 7 years ago

I bet what I know and I know Hibernian

Hibernian playing again so I have taken time to look at other sites and the main talking points are the 2-1 win for Ayr away and the 1-1 draw at Home which is understandable but fail to mention the Hibernian wins 3-0 3-1 & 4-0
When Hibernian lost 2-1 we were 1-0 up early in the second half when Marvin Bartley was sent off, the red card was a joke and was later rescinded, we were playing well before the sending off but it lifted them
A big difference between last season and this season is the fitness of the squad, Neil Lennon and his coaching staff have worked hard with the players to improve this and it’s very noticeable in games now that we are a lot fitter, what also is noticeable is our approach to games, our approach seems less nervous, last season we were desperate to make things happen but now we are more composed, when we get to the last third of the pitch instead of forcing things and seeing an attack break down we are now more composed, waiting for the right opportunity if nothing is on straight away,
Our squad is stronger this season and I honestly believe that our midfield could be the best midfield in Scotland,
What you don’t get to see on tv is our work rate by all the players on and off the ball, the players don’t stop for 90+ minutes, the whole squad play for each other,
There will be changes tonight but as Lennon says there won’t be many changes, one that looks certain is SLIVKA starting, he could replace Bartley and LAIDLAW could play in goal in place of Marciano and
As for Stokes, he isn’t match fit so I can see him coming on and playing longer but I don’t see him starting, I wouldn’t change anything upfront but Lennon could start the other LEITHuanian DEIVYDAS MATULEVICIUS
While nothing is certain we should still be winning tonight with a bit to spare

    Hibernian v Ayr

VYKINTAS SLIVKA to score 21/10 bet365

I think over 2.5 match goals or over 3.5 is a cert. Looking forward to seeing this guy Slivka.

    • Johnb 7 years ago

Mr f yeah should definitely be goals tonight, Slivka is pretty special and I was shocked when I heard we signed him on a three year deal, he is a massive signing for us, he has everything in his game, made his international debut at 19 and ever since has made the position his own and played well against Scotland
He may need time to settle in to a new place but I can see him scoring tonight

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

Don’t know much about him apart from the fact he was at Juventus for few years and loaned out to various clubs.
He’s highly rated in Lithuania with plenty of caps so should do well here.

  20. HullShaker 7 years ago

    Afternoon gents,

Massive card and I’m making things easier by completely by-passing the Um Bongo Cup or whatever they’re calling it this year – anyway, National League North action beckons and, ‘as any fool know’…it is the true home of proper football ?

There are two games that interest me; the first features one of my local sides North Ferriby and Jordan’s already highlighted it with a look to Harrogate goals which I completely agree with. The only thing I’d add is that Ferriby’s only asset last season was the fact that they managed to score (usually only 1 goal) at home.

On that basis, I’m siding with the following:

    NTH FERRIBY VS HARROGATE:

    BTTS & OVER 2.5 MGS…11/10
    ??

    ****************************

My other (and main) interest means a short trip West over the Pennines sees a NW derby which potentially offers great value…

    STOCKPORT COUNTY VS. CURZON ASHTON:

Stockport look too have far to much respect from the bookies on this one – they lost their opener and there really isn’t a world of difference between themselves and tonight’s visitors – there once was and I don’t wonder whether it has been priced trading on Stockport’s former name and size at this early stage of the season?

Either way, The Nash ought not to be discounted – they have grown well as a club in recent years and on a betting front have been solid to back for goals…it was a rare occasion last season thst saw them produce a blank and they got off to a flier winning their opener 4-0 against Ferriby.

The sides met twice last year and both teams found the net in each – I think the price is too big for the same again:

    BTTS…5/6
    ????

    Best of luck.

    • alex_mufc83 7 years ago

Ah my local town of work, the mighty Stockport.

They are due a goal, have failed to net the past 2 games on the trot. I’m with you on the BTTS here.

    • HullShaker 7 years ago

We all have our crosses to bare Alex! Are you from Stockport originally – surprised you’re not a County fan ?

    • alex_mufc83 7 years ago

No I most certainly am not Sir… I’m from Altrincham, the land of the (not-so-mighty) ROBINS. Freshly relegated from the same league as County last year, and now proud members of the Northern Premier League.

I remember the days of battering Northwich Victoria in the Vauxhall Conference…

A guy I work with is a local lad and a big County fan though.

    • HullShaker 7 years ago

Altrincham eh, you posh sod – land of ice-rinks and WAGS!

I was born on Whalley Range for my sins – then shipped out to ‘safer’ Radcliffe ?…meant I could be a Bury fan instead of either of those other two clubs.

Odd III v Moss (Nprway, 6pm)

Top vs bottom in the Norwegian 4th tier group 1. With goal differences of -37 and +35 respectively, we can expect a few goals. Odd III lost their last match 7-1 to the second pace team. The league can throw up some surprises occasionally but expect goals.

I’ll be looking to get on Over 4.5 / 5.5 mgls in play. O2.5 fhgls might be worth looking at. Pre match odds on O4.5,5.0 are around 3/5 with 365. Even though the odds are terrible, over 2.5 mgls @ 1/7 (bet365) actually offers some value here as other bookies go 1/14 or worse!

    For a pre-match bet I’ll go with a double that pays 48/50:
    Odd III v Moss O4.5, 5.0 agl

You guys wouldn’t believe what ” one in a million betting anomalies ” I’ve had to contend with – all working against me, I had 3 of those – 2 in the Sporting Kansas game and 24 hrs later, in the Oriente Petrolero game.

In some ways bet365 have been a bit of a scrooge and I’m down about £300 on where I really should be, but on the other hand I am up on this past 2 days which is some sort of miracle.

I’m now up to £1168.33 and as part of my grief with them, they’re returned a £100 in-play bet I had at 8-1 ( no clean sheet dropped on at 70 mins ) – I rode that for 20 mins waiting for cashout, only for it to go bang on 91 mins.

I have to bet with the £100, so I’m putting the brakes on a tad, so i’ll be having a 4 way tonight on just the £100.

    Man Utd No clean sheet
    Derby win
    Sheff Wed win
    Celtic -1 a/h – returns around £340 or so.

Derby have said whilst rotation is happening tonight and 4 players – Russell/Bryson/Huddlestone and Johnson key candidates to sit this one out, we have Vydra, Nugent, Pearce, Olsson and a bag full of others who are itching to get a start. Rowett has said publicly he’s fielding a side to fire us in to the next round and I feel that the 2 divs between us will still be too far for Grimsby to overturn. I know they had a good win at the weekend by beating Chesterfield 3-1 so they’ll have some confidence. They regard us as a premiership side and do fancy their chances against us, but I don’t think it will be enough for them. 3/4 for the Derby win.

Sheff Wed – arguably one of the best sides in in the championship playing Chesterfield who got slapped down 4 days ago at home to Grimsby. Cannot see any other result than Sheff Wed to win. They’ve not got a massive squad, but they will rotate some and should see them in to the next round.

Real Madrid to score. Barring a miracle, I just cannot see Man Utd stop the champions of Europe from bursting their net.

Celtic -1 a/h – playing it safe because often when I lump on a side that’s expected to thump the opposition, they limp over the line and its an anti-climax. A 1 nil win will void the bet, a 2 goal cushion will see it land. As per practically every domestic title in Scotlandshire – its either going to be Celtic or Rangers lift the trophy, so that last is really a no brainer.

    • andynffc 7 years ago

Looks good mate going to have a dabble on that…the only worry is the derby win! ? Only joking even the 2nd team should have enough quality to win ??

    • nathanufton 7 years ago

Just Butterfield, Russell and Keogh who played on Friday made the squad. The other 8 are made up of I think 6 borderline starting 11 players such as Nugent, Anya, Ollson and a few youngsters, but we do have lots of experience in the squad and a lot on the bench. I’ll drop in full team news when I get it.

Incidentally, it is persisting it down in Grimsby, but then again, they do say it’s grim up north !!

Been a wobbly start for me on here but sticking to what I know tonight…

    Back in Sweden! This time the Superettan;

Take Oesters to score two or more vs GAIS, reasoning is even though the H2H’s favour GAIS, Oesters have come on leaps and bounds this year and have scored twice or more in their last 4 games, and one of those a 2-2 draw vs today’s opponents! GAIS have conceded in 5/6 of their latest games, the one they didn’t was against 2nd from bottom frej whom they beat 1-0, the have also shipped 2 or more in 3 of their last 5

Complete the double staying in that league with both teams to score and overs at Syrianska vs Norby… Both sides LOVE goals, for and against and this should easily continue here, both sides have seen this come in 11/12 between them, the one that didn’t see this was Norby against to 5th place falkenbergs which they lost 3-0, last meeting was a 1-1 draw 2 months back but this should easily have another!

    Double pays 19/10 on 365

Going to start keeping totals and stakes as points to save hassle, so 2 pts on

    Derby team news::

As expected, Gary Rowett has made a number of changes to his starting XI for this evening’s Carabao Cup First Round meeting at Grimsby Town, kick-off: 7:45pm.
Eight have been made in total to the team that began the 1-1 draw at Sunderland last Friday night, with only Richard Keogh, Jacob Butterfield and Johnny Russell keeping
    their places.

There appears to be a switch in formation too, with the Rams moving from a 4-3-3 shape to a 4-2-3-1 against the Mariners at Blundell Park.

Jonathan Mitchell, who last week signed a new four-year contract with the club, starts in place of Scott Carson.

Three further changes come in defence as Chris Baird, Alex Pearce and Marcus Olsson come in to replace Andre Wisdom, Curtis Davies and Craig Forsyth respectively.

Jamie Hanson pulls on the Derby shirt for the first time in a competitive fixture since January and he partners Butterfield in the middle of the park.

Mason Bennett and Ikechi Anya line-up on the flanks – either side of Johnny Russell – whilst David Nugent leads the Derby attack.

Rowett, the Derby manager, has also called up three Academy players to the matchday squad too.

Under-23 duo Kellan Gordon and Timi Max Elsnik, as well as first-year scholar Max Bird have all been named amongst the substitutes.

    Grimsby Town:

    Substitutes:

Derby County: Mitchell, Baird, Keogh (C), Pearce, Olsson; Hanson, Butterfield; Bennett, Russell, Anya; Nugent

Substitutes: Carson, Martin, Wisdom, Weimann, Elsnik, Bird, Gordon

Lots of experience, I can see 7 names in the starting 11 that played a good chunk of fixtures last season and the likes of Hanson ( played maybe 3 or 4 games ) and Nugent ( about the same + sub appearances ), Derby’s second choice keeper Mitchell is quality but is being kept out of the starting 11 by our player of the year, Mason Bennett had a season on loan.
Pearce was quality last season and Baird was consistent.

I think there’s enough in the starting 11 to have this done and dusted in the first 60 mins, but this is a re-run of the 1st round last year when we beat them in a scrappy 1 nil where we left it to midpoint in the 2nd half to grab the winner with a Keogh header.

The 4-2-3-1 is not really a surprise, it is more defence minded than 4-3-3, but since the players on the pitch need a chance to impress, I think this is the right formation with the two holding midfielders to contain the middle of the pitch and we’ve enough with the 3 attacking midfielders to give Nugent some service. Hopefully, he’ll remember to tie up his laces on his shooting boots. Nugent is still 2nd fiddle to Martin, we’re also looking at another attacking option too and with Vydra and Anya also in the mix for a starting 11, this is a guilt edged chance to impress the boss.

    best of luck guys.

Grimsby manager bitching to the ref that the rain is a problem, yet the ref stops play – just as the rain has eased off but not stopped. Derby obviously want to carry on being 1 up on 6 mins, but we’re 20 mins in and they’ve temporarily stopped play. This could be delayed I think for 30-45 mins, yet there are no ground staff on the pitch running a fork on the puddles.

    One for Tuesday.

Curzon Ashton saw off North Ferriby with ease yesterday, and after Hull’s comment I logged them in the favourites and saw they were up against Harrowgate Town (who also won with ease yesterday). Risky business in the VNL, bit goals come a plenty and if North Ferriby are in as much trouble as our Hullshaker thinks, they could be a team to back against most weeks. If you check reports, they’re currently more interested in tricking their fans into thinking they’ve signed Neymar ??

no bet in football is guaranteed but with a bit of research you can get “ahead” of the bookies

    WON

Real Madrid to win 21/20 WON

Bristol city over 5.5 mgs 1/1 LOST

Copa Libertadores action this evening and whilst some are tough to call, this one looks a touch simpler – famous last words…

LANUS VS. THE STRONGEST (2315 KO):

I’ve written before that I have a real soft spot for Bolivian side The Strongest but they just haven’t been the dominant force of previous seasons – even at theirLa Paz fortress up in the Andes, they have developed anair of vulnerability as Argentine side Lanus exploited in the previous H2H…only conceding the equaliser late on.

Bolivian sides travel about as well as Guiness and I can’t see anything but a dominant home display tonight despite what (questionable) defensive obstacles The Strongest put in their way.

    Two selections to consider:

    LANUS OVER 1.5 TGS…8/13

    LANUS OVER 2.5 TGS…7/4

    Heracles v Ajax (Saturday)

I fully expect Ajax to win here, so I will take them on the asian handicap. Heracles lost their last pre-season game with 2-0 at Jupiler League club Emmen. They played their strongest team for the first hour and were 2-0 behind in the 57th minute. When Ajax don’t sell more players they will be the team to beat this season. I think they were quite good against Nice, dominating the second half in France. The last 3 seasons this game ended 0-2 and I think we will have something similar on Saturday.

The NAP was looking good – 8 corners on 89 mins with a security net of two but a late flurry saw the count end on 13. Fortunately I was able to cover before kick off so no harm done. I also got on over 1.5 FHG’s & over 4 MG’s in Odd 3 vs Moss as I mentioned so not a bad day in the end. Well done all winners

After the abandoned game in Grimsby, the rest of my £100 delivered a healthy £99 profit, elsewhere I baled out on my main bet/back roll in the Luton game. It was a 5 part goals orientated relatively safe one that only had 2 components delivered by ht, so my cashout was miserly, thankfully, 2 more components came in and I took a slap on the nose with a £218 loss on that one. Luckily I snook in a cheeky 1/8, limited my losses and wound up overall with a new balance of £1289.95.

I’ve just sent £1000 back to my real money bank, I kinda needed the money to give me a bit of a cushion, so I’m now moving on to maybe some South American action in the Copa Sudamerica, but i’ll be restarting from £289. If I survive, I might ignore much of what is happening until the likes of Sheff utd, Rangers and Zenit St Petersberg play tomorrow.

    OVER 2.5 4/5

Plenty of early games tomorrow in China, Korea and Australia.

No time for reasoning just now, but have picked out these for tomorrow:

    Double pays evens:

HPS v CLE O2.5 mgls (Finland)
Wohlen v Neuchâtel Xamax O 2.0 agl (Swiss)

Also on Wohlen v Neuchâtel Xamax BTTS and Overs 6/5

Yesterday I posted re another Swiss match:

St Gallen v Lucerne. 5 games to look at so far in the league, 2 for St Gallen and 3 for Lucerne. 17 goals in those 5, neither have failed to find the net so far. 188bet has 13/17 on o2.5 according to Oddschecker, but no account with them so Marathonbet prices quoted:

    O2.5 mgls 73/100 (3 points)
    BTTS and O2.5 mgls 24/25 (1 point)

    Well done all winners tonight!

To the Cup Games in Mexico:

    CF Atlante V Club Tijuana – O1.5Gls

I don’t see Nexaca losing at home to Mornacas, so I will back Nexaca DNB @ 1.52

    BET 2

Still in the Americas, I will head to the Concacaf League. Santos DG of Costa Rica trounced San Juan of Trinidad 6-2 in the first leg tie, I see another goals thriller as San Juan have scored in 8 of their last 10 home games, while Santos will prove too strong for the Tobago side. My pick: BTTS. Lower stakes on BTTS & O2.5 as well.

San Juan V Santos DG – BTTS

San Juan V Santos DG – BTTS & O2.5 (Lower Stake)
