Top Football Tips

THERE are two potential crackers in England and Scotland today and I'm hoping for some thrills and spills.

South of the border it's Liverpool v Man City while in Scotland Rangers welcome leaders Hearts. My thoughts on these games were posted on Friday night.

I'm going score draw at Liverpool and their home record against Man City is incredible – unbeaten since 2003 – and taking a chance on Rangers to close the gap on Hearts. Admittedly the Jambos look big at 7-2 but Steven Gerrard knows his men can't lose to fall 11 points adrift and they've been strong at home all season.

It was a mixed day for me on Saturday with Ayr bringing up the Super Single and Aberdeen, Hibs and Livingston +1 landing the Top Treble but that was it so a small profit.

For Sunday I have a goals treble starting with Hoffenheim v Eintracht Frankfurt with both scoring in their last six. Add Sevilla v Celta v Vigo with three out of four for Sevilla and three out of four on the h2h coming up.

All the Dutch games could go over but I'm banking on Willem v Feyenoord. There have been 27 in Willem's last five while three out of five meetings have gone overs as have four of Feyenoord's last six.

Saturday's moneyback fivefold was two short with Portsmouth's loss the biggest surprise. I'm having another go starting with Red Bull Leipzig, back in form after three wins and a draw in the Bundesliga, at home to Nuremberg.

And while I'm on both to score at Sevilla the home should win after five on the spin with 21 goals scored.

Inter Milan should win at SPAL after four victories on the spin and also backing Napoli at home so Sassuolo although they are a little short.

For the fivefold it was a toss-up between Rangers to beat Hearts and Barcelona at Valencia. Barca were sublime at Spurs in midweek and have won four and drawn four (all 1-1) of the last eight meetings at the Mestalla but I'm taking a chance on Rangers who have been superb at home to take care of the Premiership leaders.

I'm off on a golfing holiday for a week with Desmond and Ace Venturer in tow (remember him!) so Scott Allot will be looking after the show. It's a fairly quiet one ahead of the internationals so I probably picked a good time to go away.

Treat him well and let's hope he contributes a few winners. I'll check back in on Friday night but next weekend's top tips will be Scott's as I won't have time to do proper research.

Remember to have a look at WeLoveBetting for their tips and video chat.

Some cracking games later on and will post later but just having a look through the Scandinavian cards and one match from the tail end of the Finnish Kolmonen catches my eye…

TOTE VS. HJK / LSALO (1100 KO):

Obviously not one to go mad on but could be a chance of goals as doomed HJK/Lsalo play out their death throes against a ToTe side who could escape automatic relegation and trade a ‘certain’ drop-spot with a ‘potential’ 3rd bottom escape route courtesy of the Kolmonen’s system.

The last time these two met in late June, ToTe ran out 2-4 away winners in a 6 goal belter; the visitors have been on the end of some absolute wallopings this year (4-2, 8-0, 7-1, 0-7 – in 4 of their last 6) and the circumstances of the game may just lean towards a healthy scoreline!

If you haven’t heard about the story of Virtus Entella and their standoff with the Italian FA equivalent, then I suggest you give it a look. It makes for remarkable reading. Relegated from Serie B last season, they find themselves protesting a return to Serie B after three other Serie B sides went bankrupt. As such, they’ve played just one game in Serie B so far with their games postponed indefinitely.

Yesterday, after seeing their game today priced up on Bet365, I was ready to be all over it in the assumption that the postponements were over. It looked ripe for goals and Entella would’ve had a clear point to prove. However, it seems that (as expected) the game is in no way going ahead and the markets will probably be pulled at some point – in fact, they have since now been pulled. A shame, as there was some good value on the goals markets.

Still, sticking to Italy for one of my selections and its a saga that might be worth keeping an eye on. With various happenings alongside Entella’s situation, it seems there’s some farcical turmoil surrounding the lower tiers of Italian football right now.

    • micky lfc 6 years ago

Be interesting to see what the outcome is Leroy

    • leroy 6 years ago

Agreed Micky, it’s fascinating really. Both Serie B and Serie C have gone ahead despite all of this – Serie B with a reduced number of teams. Yet the case of Entella and other sides goes on. A decision on Entella specifically is expected to be made in a matter of days.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

As for it being a shite match i thought it was intriguing as this is how big games should be and that is tight,Liverpool defensively are SOLID which makes me happy, the front three not firing yet but still at the top of the league, when they do start firing they will be deadly,as for tipping a draw fairplay but i wouldn’t gloat to much as 20p is hardly going to win you anything.

    Morning gents,

Can’t ignore the EPL’s big North-West Derby today as thousands of Mancs drag themselves from their rain-soaked hovels and make the short trip over to sunny Merseyside – it ought to be a belter!

Both Liverpool and City are two of Europe’s finest attacking and counter-attacking sides and the action and intensity of play should be high – I’m taking a slightly different tack on the game and will be focussing on corners.

Unlike Macca, who’ll be using corners to stand on and throw stones at buses, I’m looking to back them and have done well doing so with both sides over the last season:

    OVER 10 MATCH CORNERS…EVENS
    (Bet365)
    🌟🌟🌟🌟

    ****************************************

Two games in SA that I like the look of and something a little different for the earlier game:

RIVER PLATE WOMEN VS. UBA WOMEN (1930 KO):

I always keep my eye on this league as, much like their Northern Irish counterparts, the Argentinian ladies football leagues see some consistently impressive scorelines – especially when River Plate are involved.

This particular H2H sees a game with a cracking pedigree for goals; the last 11 meetings wound up with scorelines of: 2-4, 5-1, 5-0, 0-5, 0-4, 1-0, 3-0, 2-7, 5-1, 4-0 and 1-7 with River Plate winning 100% of the historic matches.

Low stakes stuff but could be worth a look:

    OVER 5.5 MGS…5/4
    (Bet365)
    🌟🌟

    ****************************************

    CARMELITA VS. ALAJUELENSE (2200 KO):

The Carmelita bet a few nights ago had a sweet outcome and I suspect there’s more value to be had here as 2nd placed Alajuelense go up against their city opposition on shared soil in Barrio el Carmen having already put 12 goals past them within the last 12 months.

Alajuelense have scored 2-1-2-3-2-6 team goals in their 6 most recent games and have lost just 2 and won 8 of their last 10 consecutive league games – a decent enough record made better by the fact that they have the chance to leapfrog leaders Saprissa into top-spot with another win.

I’ll be swerving any bets based around WDW though and with 5-6-5-4 match goals in the last (and very recent) 4 H2H’s, goals are the way to go:

    OVER 3.5 MGS…7/4
    (BetVictor)

    OVER 4.5 MGS…4/1

Very interesting Arsenal lineup today with an attacking front four of Lacazette, Iwobi, Welbeck and Mkhitaryan all selected. Aubamayang, Ramsey and Ozil all on the bench. I really admire admire Emery’s boldness and willingness to make decisions like this and leave big guns on the bench when he feels it isn’t working. Although Arsenal are winning games, the balance in the team is not right with Ozil and Ramsey both in the team, and Aubamayang isn’t at his best when pushed wide left.

Welbeck and Iwobi have looked terrific in recent games and deserve their chance today, as does Mkhitaryan who has had limited opportunity thus far this season.

I see a win today for Arsenal to take the unbeaten run to 9 games, and there should be goals in this match. Fulham have lost 2 and drawn 2 in their last 4 and as I said against Watford last week, the gunners should not fear teams like Fulham and should be expected to take all the points today.

Cracking game at 4.30 and honestly can’t wait for it as a neutral. I can see it being a draw or a city win. If Mendy starts as opposed to Laporte at left back who was awful last season vs Liverpool then City stand a real good chance to end their bad run at Anfield. On top of this Liverpool don’t look half the team they did last season. No Oxlade or Keita in tbe midfield will be a huge miss for them too as their pressing won’t be as good. So I’m siding with Manchester City over 1.5 team goals at 11/10 is too good of a price to miss. Good luck with your bets today gents

IT’s a huge day in the SPFL as both Glasgow sides look to move closer to Hearts and Hibs. It wont be easy though, Rangers welcome table topping Hearts and Celtic alawys face a tough match in Perth against St Johnstone

    Rangers v Hearts (3pm)

Hands up if you thought by October Hearts would be 1st, Hibs 2nd, Celtic 5th and Rangers 7th – no i didn’t think so. Its been a sensational start to the league season in Scotland, its the first time in years we’ve had any sort of real title challange and whislt i don’t expect either Edinburgh club to win the league, it’s making it a great spectacle.

Rangers welcome legaue leaders Hearts and know this is a game they can’t afford to lose – defeat would see them slip 11 points behind Hearts , the only reason Steven Gerrard isn’t under pressure this early in the season is becuase they are only twe points behind rivals Celtic.

One thing you can say though is since taking over at the helm, he has turned Ibrox into a fortress – 10 games played 9 matches won and there is real feel good factor at Ibrox at the moment. This is their toughest home game to date but I fancy them to use their home advantage and inflcit a first league defeat on Craig Leveins men.

I’m not being disrespectful to Hearts, they have had a terrific season and i don’t see that stopping anytime soon, i just feel Rangers in front of their own fans is too much of an ask

    St Johnstone v Celtic (3.30pm)

It was a european horror show for Celtic in Austria on thursday but its back to league action as they look to make ground at the top o the table. It’s been grim vieweing watching them in the league this season and scoring goals has been a real struggle for them which is criminal given the talent they have and the cost of that talent

They were in Perth a view weeks ago and although they only won 1-0, it really should have been by 3 or 4 – fully expect them to grind out another win here. We’ve struggled against the leagues better sides and we’ll be looking to keep it tight.

    Recommended Bet

    Rangers / Celtic Double
    5/4 (Totesport) (NAP)

    UK skybet Special

There are 6 matches in the UK today and Skybet are offering specials – there’s a market I really like the look of based on the sides involved – total match goals

    Fulham v Arsenal
    Southampton v Chelsea
    Liverpool v Man City
    Bristol City v Sheffield Wednesday
    Rangers v Hearts
    St Johnstone v Celtic

Skybet are offering 5/6 on 18+ goals at 5/6 which i think has a great chance – works out at 3 goals per game but based on those matches, i believe their is a strong case for most of them to see at least three goals with some going over 3, especially at Fulham and Liverpool. Sheff W have been scoring goals and there’s every chance we could see goals in the two Scottish games.

    Recommended Bet

    18+ goals to be scored
    5/6 (Skybet)

    Monaco v Rennes (KO 4pm)

Its been a horrible start to the season for Monaco, they have been absolutely awful – without a win in 9, 3rd bottom of Ligue 1 and no goals in three games, its been a shambles of a season so far.

They are back on home soil and there is really no real stats to support this but its not always about stats – a couple of key things stand out

Monaco have had an extra’s days rest

Rennes had a gruelling trip to Astana on thursday

Rennes are just one place above Monaco and have only won 1 o their last 6 gam
Rennes have a terrible record aganist Monaco – just 5 wins in 24 trips to Monaco and without a win in their last 12

This is a bit of a risky one but Monaco need to start winning soon and they have no better chance than today against a side who can’t be fresh after a trip to Kazakstan, are in poor shape and who have a terrible record against them

    Recommended Bets

    Monaco to beat Rennes

1st bet: Four fold ( Mckean, Naysmith and Uche ikpeazu start for Hearts, Lafferty starts for Rangers)

    Athletics Madrid
    Chelsea and over 1.5 mgls
    Hearts double chance
    Standard Liege v Brugge BTTS

    First 2 self explanatory
Will not be surprised if Rangers win (said my piece previous) but going against the grain of majority here and can’t back against my team)

Standard last 5 consecutive matches BTTS and 7/8, Brugge don’t concede many, but HDHs; last 6 consecutive have landed and 9 out of last 11.

    10.8/1 Ladbrokes

Will also be on a card combo with team news announced, along with other SPFL match and EPL matches.

    WIN ✅

Cruised in – ridiculous price considering Arsenal, Chelsea, Rangers. Celtic, city and Liverpool are playing 😎

  66. HullShaker 6 years ago

Well done anyone who won a bet at Anfield!

My corners pick looked in great shape at h/t but a pretty paltry 2nd half saw just 2 more…disappointing after 6 in the 1st half 👎

    • adriang 6 years ago

      Hi Hull
Check out Man City Corners I did them at half time against Brighton 9 first half 1 Second half

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

Evening Adrian – think the one surprise today wasn’t so much City’s corner count but Liverpool getting just 2 – very unusual especially with the lack of attacks converting to goals!

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Lack of shots on target from both sides, this tells you that the premier league is back, tight as hell and come the end of the season there isn’t just going to be 2 teams in it,Arsenal are surprising at the minute Chelsea also,City aren;t going to walk this one.

    • HullShaker 6 years ago

Agreed re Arsenal and Chelsea – very impressed by both particularly Arsenal who are clearly excelling without Wenger at the reins.

Certainly going to be an interesting season with the usual suspects and a few surprise packages thrown in – Wolves look brilliant and have the managerial direction and financial backing to build…6/1 for a top 6 finish isn’t beyond the realms of fantasy!

    • mr h 6 years ago

Hull I feel for Wolves to do that a goalscorer in January is a must not a need. Playing great stuff, Patricios been exceptional since the off in particular and was perhaps the signing of the season on a free.

Arsenal for me will struggle against the top teams but are certainly heading in the right direction. This season will be too soon for them but a top 4 is definitely achievable.

EPL looks very competitive this year just like it looks up here. Massive changes from last season and for the better

    • foundmyfunk 6 years ago

Liverpool need some sparkle in midfield. Should play Shaqiri there or go and get Fekir. Missing Coutinho and too many long punts up to Salah isn’t fooling or helping anyone. How we are joint top is amazing. Solid, but I think we will continue to have problems creating against top teams.

Never posted but had a late mls treble of btts at skc, nyrb win and dallas win 3.76/1 won and a double of Rangers/Chelsea 1.74/1

Brings profit eventually for the weekend.

    —–

Some nice winners on here today, well done.
Glad i was at Rangers v Hearts and never seen Liverpool v City, another built up premiership game up to nothing. First time ive seen Hearts this season, typical physical Levien team but have a bit more ability, first time i have seen a Levien team come have a go at Ibrox in years. Just couldn’t match the Rangers tempo.

Glad the international break is here, after it is going to be non stop until the new year!

    • mr h 6 years ago

Fraser my thoughts exactly on Leveins team, bully boys with a couple of decent players. OK they beat us 1-0 earlier in the season but that will be seen to soon enough. Their next three games are Aberdeen(H), Hibs(H) & then a trip too the east end of Glasgow. Hearts will be off the top by November 3rd at the latest 👍🏻 horrible manager at a horrible team

    • the stamp collector 6 years ago

Was not building up hopes today at Ibrox as seen many decent Hearts sides succumb over the years; not many teams will match Rangers there; Hibs will give it a go and have a decent record v Rangers recently; no arguments with Smiths yellow cards, but the slightest physical presence against any of the Glasgow pair on their own patch has the crowd immediately in the officials ears baying for action; about time Hearts stepped up as we’ve been billed before, but this ‘horrible’ rubbish OTT….

    Any 5, any 6, all 7 ; 50p bets, total stake £10.5

5 in, Will more than gladly take the £88. 176/1 for that line, helped by Jimmy Dunne getting Hearts consolation at Ibrox at 11/1, which I though was stingy considering he was as long as 20/1 atgs with some bookies. Just my luck if Fermino/Mertens hit the woodwork/missed sitters or penalties
