Top Football Tips

NOTHING much happened on Friday but there's a feast of football on Saturday.

It all starts with Rangers v Celtic at 12.30pm and after the 3pm kick-offs there's a choice of Liverpool v Arsenal or Hibs v Hearts. And in between weather permitting I'll be off to see Clydebank v Irvine Meadow. Doesn't get better than that!

Previews of all the big games have been posted and check out the VIP tips for members only

Most of my top tips are reasoned there and I wish everyone good luck on the final Saturday of the season.

Well done to any winners on Friday.

Like that super single Sean, I was at Windsor on boxing day and it could have been 6 or 7. Glens are in a bad way and can’t keep 11 men on the pitch at the minute, sad times mate and I don’t see it changing today. Crues are way overpriced for this game!

i’ve finally realised that my team are head and shoulders above all of the rest of the teams in our division, with the exception of woking, now that billericay seem to have self imploded. having been a torquay united since the mid 70s this sort of realisation doesn’t happen very often, so its taken a while to sink in.

another ‘local’ derby v gloucester city on saturday, at plainmoor again, where we drew an impressive crowd approaching 4000 versus truro city on boxing day.

i’m perhaps over confident this time around, but i seriously think we’ll go goal crazy this time after hitting 53 in the 19 games since GJ took over. four seems a regular thing these days!

i’m having a good look at the goals markets on skybet just now. a home win is pretty certain, but at 1/4 is unbackable except in accas. the handicap from -2 and above tempts but isnt offered there, -1 4/5 seems great value tho as does tufc to score 3+ at 6/5, but i’m expecting us to concede as usual so my NAP will be over torquay to win and 4.5 match goals at a mighty 10/3

the stats now, us:- 7 wins on the trot in the league, unbeaten in the league since GJ took over, 22-5 up on the goals over those 7 wins. glos on the other hand havent won in at least their last 12 games , altho rarely conceding many they havent come up against as prolific a side as ours, except woking and welling, when they both scored and conceded 4 and 3. the price offered seems huge, the wind is in our sails at the minute, we want to be top for new year, there should be another big crowd, not as big, but hopefully over 3000. there are no reported injuries, the suspended keating doesnt seem to have been missed, hall has slotted back into the middle and kalala has pushed out to the wing where keating used to be. if you can find goalscorers back reid (they’re trying to tee them up for him later in games as he’s on a drought at the minute) , janneh, kalala and lemonheigh-evans

the future’s bright, the future’s yellow!

    • warktheline 5 years ago

@bixie, the gulls absolutely flying and the bookies totally reflecting with extremely tight ‘odds’! I watched Gloucester play at Hemel, and far from impressive apart from first 15 minutes! Lacking positivity going forward and unwilling to commit bodies going forward! All the best 👍👊

  13. shortee 5 years ago

    🌟SHORTEE’S 3pm NAP🌟

Starting off with Cambridge Utd v Lincoln. Two sides sitting at opposite ends of the table and I was very surprised to see Lincoln at evens and more important 1/2 for DNB. Lincoln top of the table and scoring 42 goals goals compared to Cambridge 21 which is exactly double the amount. They also have one of the tightest defensives behind mk dons and Mansfield with only 22 conceded. Im happy on recent form to take them at DNB as last 5 for Cambridge only been scored 2 and concede 7

Next up is a trip to league 1 and Portsmouth will be looking to respond immediately after their shock defeat at the hands of Gillingham on Wednesday. They face a Fleetwood side who know how to score at home and havnt lost their in their last 6. But Portsmouth last 5 have all seen 1.5 achieved with
    2-0
    3-1
    1-1
    1-2
    2-0
And before that they were on a 11 game streak of scoring in all and 8 in a row they had won which is impressive.

On all the above im happy to take the following as my nap:

    🔺Lincoln DNB 1/2
    🔺Fleetwood v Portsmouth over 1.5 goals at 1/3

▪The combined price is EVENS exactly

    💰£50 pays £100💰

Goodluck all , im off to CLIFTONVILLE v LINFIELD sat so getting this up now and Linfield 10/11 is generous

    💎side bet 💎

    ballymena 1/3 toals
    crusaders 1/2 toals
    west brom 1/2 toals

    2/1 treble £25 on…

    Morning gents,

    NOTTS COUNTY VS. BURY:

I’ve not the time to put the full reasoning up for our visit to Meadow Lane but I’m sure folk can read between the lines!

Suffice to say it’s a horror show for County as they leap-frog (the wrong way!) a resurgent Macclesfield under Sol Campbell’s tenureship for a clear bottom spot in League Two; The Magpies have conceded 2-4-2-2-2 goals in successive games and may just struggle against a Shakers side with genuine intent to attack.

What is also well worth noting is that in the last 9 years, we’ve met a total of 7 times with the match goal totals hitting 4+ in 6 , 5+ in 4 and 6+ in 2 – not too shabby at all and it’s a long-standing H2H – I seem to remember seeing us beat an early 90’s outfit 3-2 in the days of a rather rotund Steve Cherry getting dog’s abuse from The Manchester Road End crowd at Gigg as he failed to protect his net.

We need to improve on the road and have a good bouncebackability record off the back of weaker performances – tomorrow’s match is one to prove our credentials and is an opportunity we need to make the most of – I think we will and I’m putting my faith in The Shakers in what ought to be an action-packed game:

    BURY OVER 1.5 TGS…4/6
    (Bet365)
    🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

    BURY OVER 2.5 TGS…21/10
    (Coral)

    RED CARD…4/1
    (SkyBet)
    🌟

    Best of luck 👍

IT’s derby day in Scotland with some mouth watering ties right throughout the leagues. Rangers v Celtic takes centre stage and I fancy a red card in that match but its the Scottish Division Two my NAP comes from as promotion chasing Clyde host a struggling Queens Park

Clyde v Queens Park (KO 3pm)

The hosts c0me into this off the back of a 7 match unbeaten run (4 wins 3 draws) which keeps them still in with a shout of catching current leaders Edinburgh City. Their two star players (John Rankin and David Goodwillie) have certainly played their part with 7 goals between the pair in their last 4 games. Rankin is far from a goal scorer but has scored in his last 4 games and will be confidant of making it 5 in 5

Both players undoubtedly could and should be playing at a higher level and its a major coup for Clyde having both in their ranks.

Queens Park make the short trip to Broadwood in dismal form. 5 defeats and 1 draw from their last 6 game, scoring just 2 goals in the process.

Manager Mark Roberts enjoyed a great start when he took over with 5 wins and a draw but that will feel like a life time ago as they look like they will struggle at the bottom end of the table. Their only saving grace is Albion Rovers are far worse than them and will be relegated.

This is must win for Clyde and with these two coming into this in completely contrasting form, its no surprise Clyde are as short as 1/2 to win this.

A market I like though is team to win and over 1.5 match goals and I’m taking Clyde to win this match comfortably

    Recommended Bet:

•Clyde to win and over 1.5 match goals
    •17/20 (Coral) (NAP)

    Rangers v Celtic (12.30pm)

I posted Allan McGregor to be booked on here in the last old firm game at a massive 40/1 and he duly obliged but the bookies are running scared this time and have him priced at a pathetic 14/1. Tha’st terrible odds for a goalkeeper to be booked so I’m just going to back a red card in the match.

Plenty of suspects from both sides to be carded and with it being such a crucial game I wouldn’t be surprised if the card count was higher than normal

    Recommended Bet:

•A red card to be shown
    •7/4 (Skybet)

    Hibernian v Hearts (KO 5.30pm)

Its the Edinburgh derby in the tea time kick off and good luck finding a winner out of this. Both have been far from impressive the last few months if I had to pick a winner I’d side with Hibs given their tendency to produce in a big game and Hearts being hopeless away from Tynecastle.

Young Ryan Porteous is starting to rack up the bookings and the tough tackling Hibs defender looks a good shout to find his name into the referee’s notepad. (He’s already been booked 5 times this season)

I was on him at 9/4 to be booked in the Rangers came and he did as he completely wiped out Morelos. Backing him again

    Recommended Bet:

    •Ryan Porteous to be booked
    •11/8 (Bet365)

    • kyle b 5 years ago

Ain’t Porteous still out injured? States that he is unavailable on the Hibernian club website

    • kyle b 5 years ago

Haring or Garuccio may be be a good alternative for a card if he is.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Yeah I’m pretty sure Porteous is out although yesterday was rated a major doubt.

    • 1terrytips 5 years ago

  40. mr h 5 years ago

Been up since dark o’clock as the fiercest rivalry in British football takes place in Govan. A game like no other on these shores filled with passion, hatred and aggression. There’s only one team that can afford to lose today and that’s Celtic, if Rangers are beaten today they can wave goodbye to the title for another year.

    – Rangers haven’t won an old firm league match in 7yrs.
-Rangers have drawn 2 & lost 10 from 12 meetings against Brendan Rodgers Celtic, scoring just 6 goals & conceding 31.
-Celtic have won their last 4 league visits too Ibrox
    – Celtic have failed too score just twice in 22 meetings.
    – Rangers have failed to score in 5 of the last 6 meetings.

For Rangers to get a result today they’ll have to score at least 2 as I firmly believe Celtics attacking talent will breach that defence on at least one occasion. For that too happen Morales has too stop spurning chances in games against Celtic, Kris Boyd was the same in a blue jersey and couldn’t buy a goal against Celtic. Celtic come into the match top of the form table with 4 wins in 5 while Rangers sit 5th with 2 wins in 5. Celtic turn up for the big games more often than not and 1 loss in 25 against Rangers & Aberdeen our two biggest rivals enhances that opinion. I really can’t see Celtic losing today and there too be goals in the match.

The referee is my childhood friend John Beaton and he’s taken charge of 1 previous old firm encounter which ended in a 5-1 victory at Ibrox for Celtic, he produced 4 cards and gave a penalty to Celtic that day. He’s dished out 70Y & 7R in 24 matches this season & he’s awarded 2 pens in his last 3 matches. Cards and a penalty are a shout today.

    Rangers v Celtic

Only bet for me today is Ryan Jack to be carded at 10/3. It’s a decent price and he will be key today if we manage to get anything. I would warn that waiting for Rangers team news is probably sensible when looking at bets as there are 3 or 4 players who are being given to the last minute to prove their fitness.

Mr H mentioned quite a few stats about the last couple of years and Celtics current form while they are rightfully favourites they have been inconsistent away from home this season and have lost at Hearts, Hibs and Killie this season while drawing with St Mirren and Livingston.

    • mr h 5 years ago

At the same time Rangers failed too beat Aberdeen, Hibs and Killie at home. Only home wins against St Mirren, Livingston, Dundee, St Johnstone and Motherwell

    • sean567 5 years ago

We know form tends to go out the window in these games. Rangers only home win of note has been against hearts, celtics only away win of note was against aberdeen. Interesting to read this morning about Steven Gerarrd saying his players have to ditch the fear of Celtic. If any of them have a shred of it today they will lose, if they don’t I think they can get a draw.

  47. andymac1980 5 years ago

Very dubious Brisbane penalty given on VAR and then saved for a superb 33/1 winner in Oz to start the day!

So many bets to choose today but we’re too strong and fancy around 1-3 or 1-4 so taking Celtic to win and btts @ 7/2.

Like Chris Guy’s cards shout so I’m on both keepers to get carded @ 200/1 with Bet365.

Given the ref today I fancy a home penalty so on Rangers to score @ 9/1 and miss @ 25/1.

Some prices have gone up for the massive game in Taunton today. Weymouth looked much the better side in the FA Trophy outing a month or so back, but I fancy Taunton to be much more up for this top of the table clash in a more ‘meaningful’ competition. Their home form has been astounding this season and I just hope that we don’t see a cagey affair between the two sides that are 1st and 2nd. I wouldn’t expect Taunton to go for anything other than the win – and revenge for two defeats against Weymouth so far this season.

Only Billericay have shut out Taunton at the Viridor, with them scoring 3+ goals in 11 out of 15 of their home games this season. Last month’s 4-3 home win against Salisbury reaffirmed to me that they are capable of scoring against the better sides, but conceding against them too. Weymouth have yet to fire a blank on the road, including when winning here in that FA Trophy game 1-3.

BTTS is a reasonable price, but too short at 8/13 for the single. So, a little double for me.

    1/2 Stake:

    Taunton v Weymouth
    Rushall v Coalville

    BTTS Double @ 7/5 (Marathonbet)

On my way to the game and the lineups look very encouraging for rangers, goldson/jack/kent/arfield playing through the paain barrier interesting to see how they will get on. Meanwhile edouard and tierney out for Celtic.

3/1 for Rangers looks alot better now than it did last night, or is that the drink talking……

Will be on Halliday to be carded 3/1, lafferty not starting

Lucky bag for other players,.take your pick, morelos and brown need no.mention at 11/10 each, mccrorie 6/4, jack 10/3 and lustig 4/1.

    National League North – 3PM

    Guiseley v Altrincham

Altrincham back on the road, travelling North East in the direction of Leeds (blurgh) to face Guiseley in the NLN.

The Robins have had three poor results in a row – two losses to rivals Stockport County who seem to be a bogey team for reds – and a 3-3 draw with Darlington that really should have been an Alti win, but some lacklustre defending on the day made it an uphill battle to claw back a draw.

Alti sit in 5th place on equal points with rivals County, but have a game in hand. This is an important game with the potential to get to third spot, and fighting for a promotion place.

Alti are still without super striker Jordan Hulme who is serving the last of his 3 game suspension following the Cup red card. Guiseley sit two points off the relegation zone and have really struggled in the NLN since being relegated from the National League last year, but have had an excellent cup campaign. Their league results have been poor though, most recent of which was a 5-1 drubbing by Bradford PA.

Guiseley are still capable of hurting though, and despite Alti missing Hulme, they certainly have enough firepower in the likes of Josh Hancock (joint top goalscorer with Hulme on 10) and John Johnstone. For me this game has goals in it.

    My picks;

Both Teams to score & Over 2.5 MGls

    🔺Lincoln DNB 1/2✅
    🔺Fleetwood v Portsmouth over 1.5 goals at 1/3✅

▪The combined price is EVENS exactly

    • the stamp collector 5 years ago

Can you cover , kiri? 33/20 with Ladbrokes for under 1.5 goals at Fester Road..don’t know how much you have on or if your offered cash back. Hearts rear guard action at mo but coping ok. Probably 30 mins including stopage time left

Utter crap from Bury and a 0-0 draw at Notts County is not good enough for a team pushing for a promotion place – shafts my bets to make it even worse 👎

    Well done all winners!

Tomorrow – Wales for me …
    Newton Win 10/11
Beat Aberystwth 2-0 away on Boxing Day – this is the reverse fixture. Won 6 / Drawn 3 at home this season. Aberystwth on a 3 game losing streak ….

For anyone interested and not aware the NLN and NLS fixtures on New Years Day are the reverse of the Boxing Day games. Offers a good guide to potential goals given recent H2H – and there were plenty of goals on Boxing Day …

  113. jamesylfc 5 years ago

    All bets down today 👎
Came close with my main bet (QPR 😞) and one of my speculative bets with only Forest letting down the 4 aways .

Liverpool made the day better though with that performance, was chat on here why we were 1/2 today and against United, well that explains it 👍

    • maccathered 5 years ago

If we beat City then that would be massive and the way City are playing it’s not impossible.

    • interyernan 5 years ago

Macca what are.your thoughts on the city game tomorrow? I expect city to come out all guns blazing with southampton on the recieving end -do you fancy goals?

    • maccathered 5 years ago

The question is can City come out all guns blazing, well i reckon goals will be the way to go and plenty of them, this is a must win game for obvious reasons they will win this comfortable then lose to Liverpool on the 3rd.

    • interyernan 5 years ago

Cheers mate, I definately think they will come out with a point to prove, like you say I reckon there will be goals tomorrow too 👌

  114. garry 5 years ago

Liverpool priced at 12/5 with most bookies against Man City (Jan 3)
Liverpool couldn’t be in better form going into that game and will have 1 day extra rest as well since Man city play at St Mary’s tomorrow

    • maccathered 5 years ago

City won’t be mentally strong enough against Liverpool imo,Delph is suspended for his straight red and that leaves them to short at the back,of course Liverpool would snap your hand off for a draw here but imo i think they are good enough to win this game and win it well,if Liverpool are at it then goals should feature,it all depends how much respect the City manager shows,City need to win but to do that they need to attack and if they attack we all know what happens.

  115. the stamp collector 5 years ago
