IT was another minefield in the FA Cup with Spurs the only one of four FA Cup favourites to win.

I focused on La Liga but I was one out on my early treble with Real Sociedad losing and one out on the last one with Villarreal conceding an equaliser to Deportivo.

Both to score at Celta v Real Madrid kept my challenge going and well done to Terry Gibson who tipped 2-2 at 11-1.

Greg was unlucky with his main goals bet but the other one came up. So it wasn't a great day and well done to any winners.

It's a pretty quiet Monday with an FA Cup tie that's tough to call between Brighton and Crystal Palace while Malaga face Espanyol in La Liga. There are a couple of Portuguese games and a French Cup clash.

The most exciting thing about the Brighton game is that VAR will be used for the first time in England so hopefully we'll see some referrals. Only major decisions such as goals, penalty awards and red cards can be debated.

I was looking for interesting VAR requestabets but none caught my eye. One yourodds price that has a decent chance is each team to have four or more corners and two or more cards. That pays 10-3 at William Hill.

It's a no bet day for me but I'm putting up an early Super Single for Tuesday. I agree with Greg Browning's assessment Inverness v Falkirk is a 50-50 game which makes the away side big at 14-5 with McBookie.

Falkirk will attract attention at after their 6-1 thrashing of Dundee United on Saturday. It could be a flash in the pan but even so I'm backing the Bairns draw no bet at 9-5 with betfair.

I'll add more thoughts about this game tomorrow and later post a preview on Tuesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg between Man City and Bristol City.

After a hectic card of games over Christmas and New Year we get a rest from it all until the weekend

Had a look through this weeks midweek card and saying its slim pickings is putting it politely – not a bad thing though, means the games that are on you can really have a proper look into

My thoughts on the week ahead

    Monday:
    ➖➖➖ ❌

Only 5 games from the UK and Europe + a dozen or so games from
    The English Development league

    NO BET

    Tuesday
    ➖➖➖ ✅

Busiest of the days but again only a handful of conference and Copa Del Ray games

There is one match taking place in Scotland

    Inverness v Falkirk

This is an interesting one – wouldn’t have Touched it but then Falkirk go and hammer Dundee United 6-1 which does change things. That result doesn’t make Falkirk a good team but it does make their 3/1 to win a bit more appealing. A stat that is incredible is Falkirk have scored in 20 of their last 23 visits to the highland which is some going. There is no doubt they will have for a massive confidance boost from
Saturday’s win and can be back at 4/5 double chance – alternatively Falkirk are 5/6 to score before 75 mins – a bet I like the look of

    Wednesday
    ➖➖➖➖ ❌

Again not much to go on – a few

Only one bet for me midweek this week…4 pt treble on the following:
Falkirk to win away to ICT 14-5
Barca to win v Celta and btts 11-8
Nimes to score o1.5 TGLs v Lens 10-11
Treble pays just over 16-1 (WH)

After Falkirk performance against Dundee United and ICTs struggles to score, think this is a 50-50 game and odds of almost 3-1 are worth a punt….

Good luck anyone with a bet on this week ?

I can’t add any more than what Hull has tipped here. Sydney are easily the better team, have had two extra days rest over their opponents and are scoring freely. I expect a bit of a landslide today, and wouldn’t be shocked to see a 4-1 result (Sydney’s way). Bobo scoring a brace is a great shout too.

    Morning All.
    Greece Super League
    Smyrnis v Atromitos

Atromitos sit 4th away to 14th place Smyrnis. They have won three out of the last four league games drawing the other and look in good form. This is compared to Smyrnis who have not won in their last five league games, losing three of them. Only note of caution would be lack of team news and Smyrnis last showing which was a good 0 -0 draw against second place AEK Athens.
I have took a chance on Atromitos a few times this season and they continue to deliver.
    Atromitos win 6/5.

    Good luck today.

Just been looking on skybet and the f.a cup specials and there’s a few bets that i like the look of
Newport county to draw Liverpool,Man Utd,Man city or tottenham at 13/2
Tottenham to draw Liverpool at home at 60/1
Man Utd to draw Liverpool or Man City at 14/1
Liverpool to draw Man Utd and Newcastle to draw Middlesbrough at 750/1
    worth a few quid.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Only one reason this market is priced up – to make bookies money.
I hope you get lucky if you give it a go.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Here’s me thinking most markets are there to make bookies Money, just for fun but i know my team will draw someone big and tottenham away wouldn’t surprise me one bit, also we know derbys can be drawn in these cups 750/1 for to derbys worth a quid.Always a chance for Newport county to get a dream draw.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Dropping down through the ranks this afternoon and landing on a frosty South Yorks derby game…

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY U23 VS. BARNSLEY U23 (1300 KO):

The Owls Youth set-up sit top of the table and are in fine fettle; their 6 game unbeaten spell broken only by a 7 goal ding-dong with Crewe before the Festive break.

It’s goals I’m after here and the hosts have been involved in plenty of action-packed games – their last 10 matches have featured goal tallies of: 7-3-1-2-3-4-4-5-2-5!

The visiting Tykes might just add into that goals recipe and have played out their last 12 with final match goal scores of: 8-1-7-1-3-5-1-4-4-3-3-4 – not too shabby.

One selection and it looks great value with a touch of insurance thrown in:

    GL 3.0…1.925
    ????

    Good luck.

There’s two games tomorrow night in the A-League, as I’m likely to be really busy between work and then family commitments tomorrow night, may as well post now.

Newcastle Jets v Central Coast Mariners:
Return of the F3 derby! Newcastle are well rested heading into this, with their last result being a really solid 2-2 draw away to Sydney. They’ve been class for the bulk of the season so far, and I see no reason why they won’t deliver again, against an average looking Mariners side. Vujica is back from suspension for this one, and Patricio Rodriguez (formerly of Santos FC, and AEK Athens) may debut today.

Mariners have been woeful of late in the main, only winning 3 games out of 14 rounds so far in the league. They do miss key player Daniel De Silva in this one, as well as solid players like Glover and Buhagiar, which is going to hurt them ever further.

I can’t look past a home win here, and fancy to get himself on the score sheet yet again at decent odds.

    Perth Glory v Melbourne City:
The second game sees a shaky looking Glory against… a shaky looking Melbourne City. Neither side has been convincing of late, with both leaking goals, in particular Perth who have let in 10 goals in their last 3 games… City did pull out a win finally at home against cellar dwellers Phoenix. It was a game which most folks expected them to walk easily.. and they still made really hard work of it.

However City do have one major bright spark in Ross McCormack, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him net against a woeful looking Glory defense. City do tend to score early, and against this really bad defense I’ll also have a cheeky play on them to score both halves here.

    Tips:
    Newcastle -1ah over Mariners @ 2.10
    Andrew Nabbout – atgs @ 1.90
    Ross McCormack – atgs @ 1.83
Melbourne City – score both halves @ 3.00

Well, with the South Yorks Youth derby off due to frozen whippets in the car park, I’ll fall back on the 2nd choice in warmer climes…

QUEENS PARK RANGERS U23 VS. CHARLTON ATHLETIC U23 (1300 KO):

This all-London clash might not have the recent goals for either side to match my first pick but it does have cracking pedigree for H2H’s; both 2017 fixtures were belters with scorelines of 4-5 and 2-2!

Lower stakes here but every chance of action at both ends:

Hi all, just a double for me today

    Pacos Ferreira v Portimonense (19:00)

4 points and 4 places separate these 2 sides. The home side have only failed to score once at home this season and I fancy them to score again tonight. Despite not winning on the road after promotion this season Portimonense have been rather entertaining and I also fancy them to contribute to the goals tonight. The away side have scored away to Porto, benfica and braga both in the league and cup this season and all 3 previous h2h’s between these 2 sides in Pacos btts has came up in all 3.

    Lens v Boulogne (20:00)

Despite preferring for taking goal bets I can’t see past a home win tonight, even though it is a cup game. In 9 league games this season Lens have only failed to score once at home this season and have won 5 of their last 6 home games. In contrast the away side who are in the division below Lens have only won one of their 7 away league games this season.

    Pacos Ferreira btts 3/4

    Lens win 8/15

    Double 1.68/1

    • philwindy 6 years ago

Good to see someone else fancies the Paco game for goals. After a total disaster of a first bet for 2018 seeing Sevilla ship 5 goals to Betis and me tipping Sevilla win til nil. ?

This is my shot at redemption

      Pacos Ferreira game O2.5
Both teams not shy of a goal or two and certainly struggle to keep a clean sheet.

PORTIMONENSE have netted 2 goals away from home in recent games against the big 3 so should be good for finding the net and helping the overs bet.

A cheeky 2 quid on BTTS both halfs too!

GL tonight on a thin card.

(Awaiting pitch inspection so could be a hat-trick of postponements)

Posted this one a few weeks back and tonight sees the (hopefully) rescheduled fixture…

Massive West Lancs derby tonight and if you get the right wind direction, you can smell the pie and pickled cabbage on the breeze…

    ATHERTON COLLIERIES VS. BAMBER BRIDGE:

Northern Challenge Cup action here as these two bastions of modern culture collide – some games bring glitter and glamour, some add a dash of style and panache but it’s more clogs and incest here…oh, and maybe some goals.

Atherton’s form interests me the most – their last 10 games have seen the following goals totals:
    2-3-6-4-6-5-3-1-5-4.

Whilst high-flying BB can’t quite match that, their games are hardly sluggish and it’s worth noting that a. their form has slipped of late seeing them concede in most games and b. 6 of their last 9 matches have seen 4 or more match goals.

Worth adding to this the fact that Atherton’s subsequent games have featured 1-5-2-4-1-7 match goals and that Bamber Bridge’s interim games saw 3-3-5-4-4!

    One selection to consider:

    OVER 3.5 MGS…23/20 (Coral)
    ????

Good luck (if the bugger stays on ?)

  37. charity10k 6 years ago

I see many of the comment here are betting over multiple countries and leagues/cups.

Is there models at work or a hope and a prayer?

I would say everyone that got involved on the Premier League teams in the FA Cup got badly burned but that happens often enough that quickly you learn to avoid it or bet in-play.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I got burned on the Chelsea and Arsenal games no one would of thought Chelsea would only draw and as Arsenal are the holders you would of thought they would of progressed also. The leicester game didn’t surprise me as its Vardy’s old club so a replay is a money spinner for fleetwood and i reckon that game was arranged the way it was played and the odds on Leicester city to win told its own story.

    • joe90 6 years ago

You think the Leicester Fleetwood game was fixed because of the influence of Jamie Vardy??

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Given the odds and the way the game was played nobody wanted to win it,no Vardy or Mahrez either,i reckon the game was played for a replay.

    • chelseagirl 6 years ago

Certainly a good result for Fleetwood. Considering Leicester wont get in Europe via their league position the FA cup is a better route for them to go down.

    • chelseagirl 6 years ago

Arsenal deserve what they got for playing a weakened team . Esp the form Forest have been in they should have been taken out.

  38. liverpool572 6 years ago

Some excellent shouts on here today (one or two from which I have benefited from) so thanks.

Tonight, despite their dreary 0:0 in December, I think we will see a better game and probably bts which is quite favourably priced due to that previous meeting.
I am plummeting however for Brighton to score 1 + goal and 5+ corners.
They had 8 , I believe in that previous encounter.

Anyway good luck to you all.

Al Jazira SC v Al Wahdu

Currently 0-1 to Wahdu. I think this has got at least 2 more goals in it. Wahdu’s past 6 games in a row have seen 3+ match goals in them, with Wahdu winning all but 1 game they drew 2-2.
Al Jazira tend to be on the receiving end of the goals, last 2 games have seen defeats of 1-3 and 1-2.
They might have a goal in them in this game to contribute.

    Dutch Jupiler League (Friday)

FC Den Bosch v Almere City

The Jupiler League is back this Friday. My team Den Bosch take on Almere at home and I am surprised by the price for the home win. Almere have managed to win 1 away game this season, against bottom team Jong Utrecht. Almere also haven’t kept a clean sheet in 19 league games. Den Bosch haven’t lost in 7 of 9 home games and only lost the first home game of the season and the last one against league leaders Fortuna.

The final offering from the SPYC might just throw up a touch of obvious value.

    NOVORIZONTINO U20 VS. SANTOS U20 (2300 KO):

The bigger pricing disparities (hence shorter goals prices) at this stage are kept for the ‘giants’ taking on the lesser established sides. There’s usually a bit more give if there isn’t an obvious humping in sight.

Here we have an interesting match-up that I thought would have been a bit shorter; the combined totals of their 4 games reads 3-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 3-0.

Boy did Paul Hartely need that result at the weekend. His tenure at Falkirk has been nothing short of disastrous but a 6-1 defeat of title hopefuls Dundee United is just what was needed if they are retain their place in the championship. The travel to play Inverness and whilst one freak results doesn’t make Falkirk a good team,it will have given the whole club and the players a massive confidance booster. After a tremendous clean sheet run for Inverness they have conceded in 4 consecutive games – Thata doesn’t bode well considering Falkirk have scored in 20 of their last 23 visits to the highlands.

Back Falkirk to score before 74 mins 5/6 (Bet365) (NAP) – now 68 mins

Back Fakirk not to lose 4/5 (William Hill) – now 8/11
