IT was a case of New Year but same old story as I hit the bar – or even VAR – on my two goals trebles.

Spurs, who had a Harry Kane effort confirmed marginally offside by VAR, beat my Premier League goals treble and Oxford failing to net downed my Football League btts treble.

I've lost count the number of times one goal has beaten my goals treble in recent weeks so maybe I should do more doubles. Spurs not scoring was particularly sore and Jose Mourinho has a job on his hands.

With Burnley losing early it meant 5pts chucked away on New Year's Day but overall results were pretty tough with loads of favourites failing to win.

Well done to any winners but most punters understand this is a tough time of the year for football betting and know to keep stakes low,

On Thursday it's much quieter with just three games to look at – Liverpool v Sheffield Utd in the Premier League as well as Derby v Barnsley and Swansea v Charlton in the Championship.

Liverpool should beat the Blades as they continue their relentless charge to the title but it could be an awkward game. United's only away defeat came recently at Man City on Sunday and they had chances so Liverpool and while both to score is a possibility although Jurgen Klopp's man have kept three clean sheets in a row including the Club World Cup Final.

All eyes will be on Wayne Rooney as he gets set to make his debut for a Derby side who ended a run of seven without victory by beating Charlton on Monday.

One of the most popular bets of the day could be Rooney to score first at 11-2 with Betway while he is 19-10 at Betway to net at any time.

Derby will be desperate to win but Barnsley are unbeaten in five and there should be goals. The last three meetings at Pride Park have saw both score and before last week's 0-0 draw at Swansea the previous five featuring Barnsley had brought up this market.

Swansea should beat Charlton but again goals could be the safer bet with Charlton's last four averaging four a game with all seeing both scoring.

Considering almost anything can happen with games coming thick and fast I'm happy to risk 2pts on a both to score double in the Championship.

If you want add the Liverpool game for a 5-1 treble but I'm not convinced.

2pts Both to Score Double

  • Derby v Barnsley (7.45pm)
  • Swansea v Charlton (7.45pm)
  • (2-1, William Hill)

The New Year period sees the start of an old favourite in the shape of the Sao Paulo Youth Tournament in Brasil and it’s a great tournament to follow with some hefty early stage scorelines.

Fluminense will possibly be the best bet and will post up the Nap tomorrow.

I’m taking these games to see a minimum of 3 goals for a good priced Nb:

    GREMIO
    ITUANO
    SERTIZANHO
    FEEROVIARIO
    FLUMINENSE
    GOIAS

    Over 2.5 goals 5-fold
    (5/1, bet365) NB ⭐

    Best of luck!

    Liverpool vs Sheffield Utd (8PM)

Liverpool should win this easily. Some of the bets I’ll be on include Van Dijk to score a header anytime. He’s available at Sky as a Skyboost at 12/1. The same bet is only 11/2 with Hills. I also fancy Sheffield Utd to score so if you’re looking for value, how about Midfielder John Fleck. He hits some free kicks and has scored 4 goals already this season including a double against Aston Villa and a goal against Man Utd. He’s overpriced at 50/1 for first goalscorer with Bet365. His next best price elsewhere is 16/1. First goalscorer may be a bit far fetched but it’s worth a few quid especially if I’m going to back him anytime anyway. The value lies with him to score anytime. He’s huge at 18/1 compared to 5/1 and 6/1 elsewhere. His price seems to be shortening with other bookies so I’d be quick before the 18/1 disappears. Good luck.

    Recommended Bets:

    JOHN FLECK FIRST GOALSCORER @ 50/1 (Bet365)

    JOHN FLECK ANYTIME GOALSCORER @ 18/1 (Bet365)

VIRGIL VAN DIJK TO SCORE A HEADER ANYTIME @ 12/1 (Skybet)

    SWANSEA VS CHARLTON

Looking at the player card markets for this game. Struggling Charlton’s biggest offender for bookings is Conor Gallagher. He’s 19/10 best price to be booked. Price is short but considering his record of 10 bookings already this season, what about him being shown the first card? He’s as short as 5/1 for the first booking yet you can have 13/1 at BetVictor. Another player worth a look for a booking is Swansea’s defensive Midfielder Jay Fulton. He’s 13/2 to be shown a card with BetVictor which is double the odds from elsewhere. For Jay Fulton to be shown the first card is as short as 9/1 with Hills yet he’s 40/1 with BetVictor. Next best price available is 16/1 with Bet365 so that’s a 24 point difference.

    Recommended Bets

CONOR GALLAGHER FIRST PLAYER TO BE CARDED @ 13/1

JAY FULTON FIRST PLAYER TO BE CARDED @ 40/1

JAY FULTON TO BE SHOWN A CARD @ 13/2

    All prices with BetVictor

    Good luck everyone

Not much luck yesterday as NAP was nowhere but at the odds on offer that’s going to happen from time to time. Rest of tips individually broke even but treble was downed also.

NAP – Dover away to Bromley @ 13/5❌
Wycombe to beat Ipswich @ 29/20❌
Preston to beat Middlesboro @ 10/11❌
Barrow to win at Fylde @ 13/10✅
Chelsea to win at Brighton @ 10/11❌
Swindon to win at Plymouth @ 2/1✅

Looking ahead to weekend there is a good chance to get some early prices and shortlist is looking like this:

Dumbarton to win at Falkirk @ 13/2
    Maidenhead to win @ Harrogate @ 19/4
Stockport to best Bromley @ 6/4
Forest Green to win @ Crawley @ 6/4
East Fife to win @ Montrose @ 2/1

I particularly like the look of East Fife and Stockport as it stands
Dumbarton are a massive price and are also 9/5 on Asian Handicap +0.5 so that may be NAP – 4/6 just to score which is a great shout too

No bet today and good luck to anyone who is on

Any thoughts on the below bet in the Liverpool v Sheff Utd game with Skybet
    Over 1.5 goals
    Over 8 corners
    Over 25 booking points
They are offering 2/1 which looks high compared to what they usually offer on Prem games for this bet. Over 1.5 goals should sail in and so should the corners. Then 30 booking points always has a chance in a Premier League game and Sheff Utd. look capable of covering this themselves away from home.

Also think Derby to win at 13/10 looks good. I know Barnsley are on a decent run but the Rooney factor and the atmosphere that will generate tonight should see them get the result.

rooney score and derby win is boosted to 3/1 ladbrokes, on that

  21. Ad 4 years ago

My guess is that the Rooney impact is going to be far more psychological than anything else. I seem to recall him being less than impressive in terms of on-pitch contributions even in his final years at United. And he’s not exactly gotten quicker or fitter since then. Im sure he will spray some accurate 40 yard cross field passes though!

Still, I will be following the match tonight with interest, and am ready to back him to surprise me if he looks sharp.

    • aarron19888 4 years ago

he turned around the MLS team he was playing for and looked pretty decent – it is the MLS though haha

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

Time will tell but I reckon he’ll be good for Derby.
Don’t think Cocu would play him if he’s nor trained well or shown he’s still good enough.

  22. ShazzaHar 4 years ago

Hi guys new here , first post. Hope every1 had a good xmas. I follow the corners market and over the seasons I have a pool of teams that do well for me and of course boggie teams I avoid. Liverpool tend to do well for me and Sheffields excellent away record has meant they get a decent amount of corners themselves .I see a home win with the away team limited to fewer chances so fewer corners and Sheffield compact organised defence, defending the width of the 18 year box seeing Liverpools corner total average .I’m predicting under 10.5 corners bet 365 @ 2.30 . Good luck

  23. aarron19888 4 years ago

    fancy these for championship games:

over 10.5 corners and over 1.5 goals – swansea
over 2.5 goals and each team over 0.5 cards – derby

Jay Fulton to be booked anytime has been cut from 13/2 to 7/2 yet you still getting 40/1 to be shown the first card. They must have changed his anytime price and forgot to change his first price. For instance Lesley is 4/1 to be shown a card and 25/1 to get first card.

I’m very surprised to see that Tottenham are 9/2 to finish in the top 4, while Arsenal are 16/1. Having seen both teams recently, and considering what I perceive to be differences In the managerial and squad vibes, and the fact there are only 3 points between the sides, this makes Arsenal look very overpriced (or spurs underpriced!!) I say this without bias, and having been highly critical of Arsenal all season, but I would rather be in our shoes than Spurs. Especially as they are unlikely to have any money to bring new players in.

    • Ad 4 years ago

And we are only 4 points behind United, who are 7/2…
If you’re going to back anyone for top4, I would back Arsenal @ 16. Not that I expect us to get there, and it’s seriously early days in the Arteta era, but there’s nothing but positives there so far, and I think we are better than United (bias possible!)

Derby v Barnsley review and a few bits and bobs:

Most saw Derby beat Charlton a week ago and we had to play 70 odd minutes with 10 men. I’m not convinced it merited a straight red. Gallagher’s triple twist with full pike suggested he’d give Tom Daley a run for his money – or he’d just stood on a landmine. The ref missed a lot – including dangerous play with the boot in the head on 10 minutes that saw Derby’s Knight get his first of two goals at senior level. I think he also missed a Wisdom challenge on Gallagher too, but their penalty was a weak one. He looked like he ran into Davies. I guess if your gaffer is Lee Bowyer, then you’re gonna pick up a few of his shenanigans. Charlton have it all to do because I’m told they have around 10 first team players out injured. It’s gonna be a bad night for them in Swansea.
Derby actually put on a spirited display for those that did come out. It is possibly the most energetic and dangerous we’ve seen them all season. I suggested a win and pointed to cards overs too. that sailed in even without Bielik’s straight red.
Tonight is the moment most rams fans and neutrals have been waiting for – Rooney wearing a Rams shirt. Man Utd and England’s all time highest scorer and damn do we need him.
Our season was being propped up with home form, but then it fell apart. I can’t remember a season where we’ve had such a poor run of results leading up to the new year. I think a lot of our problems go back to that awful night out. Some say he’s lost the dressing room, some say we just don’t have the right players or we’ve not replaced the 3 loan signings that helped us last year. Cocu did arrive with days left of the transfer window and players coming in have been mainly arranged prior to his arrival. I think we need 4 or 5 new faces + Rooney delivering his experience for us to have ANY chance of catching the top 6… But we’d need to put the kind of run together that Fulham did 2 seasons back, or Sunderland did under Roy Keane around 2002?
I can’t see Derby’s starting 11 being that different to the side that beat Charlton and I do think Barnsley are ripe for the picking. Cocu has hinted that he’ll let Rooney gradually get some football, but I’m not convinced. This is televised because it’s his first game he can play since his arrival in October. Aside from a holiday, he’s been in training for 2 months. Some people think he’s past it at 33. I have one thing to say to that: Go on youtube, find the DC United V Orlando game – scores at 2-2 in the 96th minute. Watch him chase down that winger, tackle him and float in a match winning pass at the death of the game.
I think Derby win @ 11/8 with bet365 is a gift. The 2-1 score-line against Charlton made them look good, we could of had another 2 or 3 – with 10 men.
I also like the look of Swansea to see of Charlton – Charlton have a major injury crisis that could see them with 10 first team players out.
    I also like the look of Liverpool ht/ft win @ 5/6 with bet365. I think I read they’d won 8 of 9 at Anfield ht/ft currently.
If the market comes up for overs 3.5’s cards in the Derby game, I’d also be all over that too.

Having a 4 way acca tonight:

    Derby -1 a/h @ 2.7/1
    Cards over 3.5 @ 5/6 ( same match )
    Liverpool ht/ft win @ 5/6
    Swansea -1 a/h @ 0.78/1

    21.6/1 with bet365

    Good luck folks

    • chelseagirl 4 years ago

      Derby starting 11:

1 changes enforced because of Bielik’s red card and the big news is that Rooney is in the starting 11.
      Hamar
      Lowe/Clarke/Davies/Wisdom
      Knight/Bird/Holmes
      Marriott/Rooney/Waghorn.

Although it’s a 4-3-3, I’m, thinking its probably more like a 4-1-2-1-2 I think Rooney is likely to play in an advanced role but not being the spearhead of the attack.

    Derby
    Swansea
    U3.5mgs treble
    11/5

Small stakes only as never reliable to back unders.

    • Ad 4 years ago

With VAR chalking off marginal goals left right and centre we might see a trend towards unders

  50. JonDelfino 4 years ago

Don’t normally play the cards market, but think there’s some good odds floating around tonight:

    • Liverpool over 0.5 cards
    • Swansea over 1.5 cards
    • Derby v Charlton over 3.5 cards

    Treble returns odds of 6.67

Not sure if you can get cash out bets on purely card accas, but that would be good to take a look at, although I suspect most of the cards on the above will land in 2H.

    Good luck all.

  51. chelseagirl 4 years ago

This looks like a great return if you have big bucks.Liverpool and Dundee.U. to win their respective leagues dub. 0.13/1. £1000 gives you £130 return.Hills.

      Your kiddin ,right? ffs,WHY???

    • Nathan 4 years ago

Would never risk a £1000 for £100 unless it’s a short odds rolling bet, not a lump job to boost the balance though

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

      That’s one for high rollers.

    🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Scottish Premiership🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I said at the start of the season that Hibs to finish top 6 should be in everyone’s ante post bets at 4/11

Obviously they didn’t start well but are on the up under Jack Ross, currently 6th and will
    Strengthen in January.

    Incredibly Bet365 are offering 8/15 on Hibs for a top 6 finish ( it’s 1/4 elsewhere)

If you are able to get on it, it will be the best 5 month investment you’ll ever make.

Celtic, Rangers, Motherwell and Aberdeen are already confined. Meaning there are two places are up for grabs – Hibs will be one of those

    • mr jack 4 years ago

Hi Greg, what’s your thoughts on the eventual winner of the Scottish premiere league,

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

I won’t answer for Greg but for me it’s 50-50 unless someone does something special in the window.

    • GregBrowning 4 years ago

Have to agree with Mr F, it’s toss of a coin stuff
And will go down to the wire

You could argue Celtic are slight favourites given they know what is needed to win a title

Kyle, Gigi, Hull, Nathan, Elvis, Buzzer…WD lads great tips, sorry if I missed anyone

  80. dc john boy 4 years ago

Couple of punts for remainder of season that might have a chance

Burnley to be relegated 4/1 (sorry Kyle)

Millwall to finish top 6 10/3

    Airdrie to win league 13/2

    £5 trixie returns circa £1300

Think bottom 3 in EPL will Include Bournemouth & Norwich & possible 3rd team to be Villa or Burnley But went for bigger odds in Burnley

Millwall current form worthy off top 6 team

Airdrie odds to big too ignore as only 2 points off top

All very risky hence the odds

    Good luck

  81. mr jack 4 years ago

Cheers Gregg Mr f, I will keep my cash in my pocket just now
