Top Football Tips

I'M running out of superlatives after Spurs' sensational fightback to rock Ajax and reach the Champions League Final.

Like Liverpool 24 hours before them Mauricio Pochettino's men battled back from 3-0 down but in an even more dramatic finish Lucas Moura completed his hat-trick to win the tie.

I was in my sick bed all day but dragged myself out about 7.55pm to take in the game and so glad I did. Apologies to my Daily Record sports desk colleagues for my absence as they more than likely ripped up the back page – just as all the Dutch newspapers would have been binning their copy!

So it's Liverpool v Spurs in Madrid on June 1 and it will almost be impossible to match the drama of the last two nights. Last time Liverpool won the Champions League they trailed AC Milan 3-0 at half-time before winning on penalties – could we have more of the same?

Well done to all the winners last night including Scott with another members bet winner. I wasn't on the site all day so haven't clocked everyone's tips but I know there were some crackers. My only bet on Heung-Min Son to score was a loser.

On Thursday we have the second legs of the Europa League semis and the prospect of another all-English final. Arsenal head to Valencia with a 3-1 lead while Chelsea welcome Eintracht Frankfurt with the sides locked at 1-1.

I expect goals at Stamford Bridge while Valencia with a fine home record could beat the Gunners on the night but if they concede it will be tough to qualify.

Kevinmac has put up Chelsea vs Eintracht Frankfurt tips and SlipsTips has added his thoughts on Valencia vs Arsenal.

I'm going for a treble – both to score at Chelsea, Arsenal to grab an away goal at Valencia and Newport not to lose at home to Mansfield in the first leg of their League Two play-off semi-final.

After all the excitement of the European ties I overlooked this game and Newport are the form side after booking their play-off spot three from the end of the regular season after a 10-match unbeaten run. Mansfield looked set fr automatic promotion but blew it with three defeats to end the season.

Momentum is with Newport while the Stags need to pick themselves off the floor. Newport are quite big at 8-5 to win tonight and that allows us to put them on a a treble to win or draw.

Remember to check welovebetting for their video chat and tips.

Hopefully one day we will get some great thinkers in at the S.f.a. The Dutch have been rank rotten for a number of years, but look at there national side and of coarse Ajax now. Celtic should take note, we should be going on Europa league run at least, too much of o were a small nation, we’ve no money, really gets to me. Ajax proved what can be done. Don’t think our national team is far away from doing something, Steve Clark all the way for me.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

It’s probably too late. Ajax have been doing this for decades and while they’re in a small country there’s still a massive gulf between their TV deal and ours.

Funny old night again, usual wind up merchants operating, it is undoubtedly one of the greatest two nights for English football, EVER. Don’t think anyone can argue with that…

Might i add that Spurs scoring 3 away goals makes it a better performance than Liverpool . I am totally neutral regarding these 2 teams . It`s just my opinion .

Excellent. Fair play for posting the betting slip.

    • sean ireland 5 years ago

Not really sure where your comment about you knowing nothing about football and then putting @sean ireland beside it stems from clyde unless its from me last night complimenting someone else on their knowledge and agreeing with his viewpoint on the Spurs game? Quite sure i never engaged with you in any capacity unless for any reason you took offence at a little bit of light hearted banter i aimed at Liverpool fc which was all done in ”The best possible taste”lol .But upon viewing your bet congratulations a nice wee lift indeed.

Couldn’t agree more Mr F. Brighton are safe. Newt, Brighton can defend but they’ve nothing to defend. As Mr F said, it would be amazing if Brighton got something against City. I honestly think Brighton couldn’t give a toss what the scoreline is on Sunday, as much as Chris Hughton, is the ever professional, not sure about the players. Same premier league wages next season. They can feel the sand between their toes….. They’re only human afterall. Man City, most of the time, play like they aren’t. They ain’t rag n bonemen.

    • jos 5 years ago

City to score 4+ goals. Dunno the price. Ask the rag ‘n boneman! 🤣

Am i the only one that can’t see past liverpool winning the EPL on sunday, i might be crazy but i would kick myself if these bets came in and i didn’t back them.
    Liverpool win EPL 11/2 @ paddy £70
    brighton DC 4/1 @ paddy £30

As an arsenal fan this liverpool vs spurs CL Final is one of my worst nightmare come through, liverpool the slightly less of two evils somhope they do it.

    • gaz1105 5 years ago

Try living in a plastic dipper stronghold like Wigan, don’t particularly like Spurs but they are my lesser of two evils. For me if they have any chance of winning they need to drop Kane, they look a much more dangerous side with Son and Moura up top

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Anything can happen but why do you think the likely outcome is Man City not to beat Brighton? No logic in this.

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Every team that City play they want to stop them winning the league, they want to be called the team that stopped City and the same goes for teams that play Liverpool.Brighton got a credible draw at Arsenal, they didn’t need to but they did, they will be bouyed by that fact.City have been scraping wins lately by scorelines of 1-0,infact 3 of their last four results have been 1-0.Brighton will give it a go here 1000% sure of that and they aren’t bad defensively at home. The pressure will definately be on City away from home,i can’t see City dropping points here but you just never know.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Brighton drew with Arsenal because that day the Gunners were rubbish.

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Who’s to say City won’t be rubbish in this game???,Man Utd went to Huddersfield needing to win for a top four place and they could only scrape a draw,Huddersfield were relegated and hadn’t collected a point in ages infact everyone were putting 4 and 5 goals past them they didn’t need to win or draw either.Teams last home games of the season are always emotional affairs and the player usually try to go out on a high infront of their own fans, just like Huddersfield did.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Again Man Utd are rubbish. I think City have 13 Premier League games in a row and know how to win trophies.

    • gaz1105 5 years ago

It’s funny how it’s city going to drop points, massive disrespect to wolves that’s it’s absolutely inconceivable Liverpool could drop points.

Think both will win in my opinion though

    • maccathered 5 years ago

      Who asked you

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Firstly i never said City would drop points,i said they may do,secondly i said i don’t think City will drop points.Read before you spout, typical Manc.

    • gaz1105 5 years ago

So easily on the defensive and offended you scousers, never mentioned your good self, it’s a general consensus among the media, pundits etc that it’s city who’ll drop points so just calm down calm down

  10. sasaharv62 5 years ago

Yous Eng-er-lish should thank yer lucky stars,
Us Scottish are lucky to see European football after xmas ffs lol

    • heisenberg 5 years ago

A young trio of Victor Wanyama, Andy Robertson Virgil van Dyke graced this great wee country.
      Not too shaby.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Robertson is of course the only homegrown one but the SPFL has helped with the devlopment of many top players with van Dijk being the most obvious.
I remember James Maddison at Aberdeen and Kasper Schmeichel at Falkirk too and look how well Ryan Kent has come on at Rangers this season.

  11. cockerspaniel 5 years ago

I am not fussed who wins the C.L. but i am delighted Spurs knocked out Ajax . The Ajax fans must some of the most obnoxious in Europe . Ajax are a great team but their fans are anything but .

    • sean567 5 years ago

agreed. wanted ajax to go thru though purely because I thought Liverpool v ajax would be a better game. for me Liverpool v spurs doesn’t feel like the European cup final and will just feel like a run of the mill game

    • maccathered 5 years ago

I think if Liverpool faced Ajax it would of been the most one sided final you would ever see.Spurs will give us a game but i think Liverpool’s experience will see them lift the trophy.

Personally think Klopp and Poch are the 2 best managers in the EPL and dont support either team. They both deserve to be there, should hopefully be some game…cue the penalty shootout 😂

    • acsafc 5 years ago

Looking forward to the clash in transfer styles. Klopp who spent £160 million this year and Pochettino who’s spent nothing and put faith in his players and managerial ability. I suppose it shows there’s more ways to get success than buying it.

    • swcfc1888 5 years ago

      Totally agree mate

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Pochettino didn’t spend money because they had already invested before he took over, they spent a vast amount on money so they didn’t need to buy new players the money was already spent. The new stadium cost a fortune but the money they make from making the champions league final will pay for it.They will invest this summer no doubt.
