Top Football Tips

MY heading yesterday read “Man United to clean up like Ajax” but I didn't believe it.

But miracles do happen and for the second night running we saw one in the Champions League.

Man United became the first team in CL history to lose 2-0 at home and qualify thanks to a remarkable win at PSG.

While it was 3-1 in Paris the score on the site was maccathered 0, Greg 1. The Liverpool fan tipped PSG to win to nil and questioned Greg napping United to score inside 70-odd minutes.

It took them just over 70 seconds and maccathered got it with both barrels. He asked for it but keep the banter sensible and don't make it personal please.

My treble was downed by Young Boys' heavy loss to Lucerne in the Swiss Cup so that was 1pt wasted.

Well done to Greg and all the other winners, especially those who fancied Man United.

Tonight's it's the turn of the Europa League. There are some match previews posted and I've picked out some tips starting with Zenit as the Super Single.

The Russian are perennial Europa League contender and should beat a Villarreal side whose main focus must be avoiding the drop from La Liga after sinking into the relegation zone.

Zenit have won 11 and drawn one of their last 12 games in this competition and while Villarreal have proved tough to beat in Europe they really have to exit and concentrate on safety.

Another side I like are Eintracht Frankfurt who won their six group games then beat Shakhtar Donetsk 6-3 on aggregate to reach the last 16. Eintracht are a class outfit and will expect to take a first-leg lead to an Inter side who lost 2-1 at Cagliari last Friday and have conceded five in their last two outings. Eintracht can win this even without Ante Rebic but on an acca take them +1.

Arsenal have been in decent nick and their game in Rennes could be a cracker. Both teams are better in attack then defence and while the Gunners are hot favourites it has to be noted Julien Stephan's side are unbeaten at home in 12 games (9 wins, 3 draws) since he took charge. Arsenal are weakened by the absence of Alexandre Lacazette but should get plenty of chances in what could be a high scorer.

Complete the treble with both to score at Napoli v Red Bull Salzburg. Both sides love to attack and while Napoli are short-priced favourites Red Bull can compete with the best on their day. They also took 18 out of 18 in the group stage and hammered Bruges 4-0 in the last 32 after losing 2-1 away.

Just wanted to say as a Liverpool fan fair play to utd with all the injures to the first team and going away to one of the best teams in Europe and scoring 3 times is a amazing achievement. The penalty in my eyes was harsh but if it was Liverpool i would be asking for it to. Hurts me to say but congrats to Utd fans. Hopefully Liverpool can make it 4/4 in the last 8 will look great for the prem.

    • jos 5 years ago

Nicely put essexboy93. Personally I would want any British team to progress in, or win, a European trophy. Let’s be honest, the rest of europe can’t abide us, although our teams are multi-cultural!

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Most fans are appluading Man Utd.they have to be given credit. They didn’t play well and pounced on two mistakes, the penalty was debatable that said they earnt their luck.PSG were awful and deserved not to progress through sheer arrogance.

    • GigiKenzo 5 years ago

You wouldn’t expect United to outplay Psg with the team they had out there. In such games the team with the less mistakes often wins and United duely punished Psg for their mistakes

Hoping I’ve picked the right market for this game, tbh there was several I liked. BOL with your bets!

    • kyle b 5 years ago

      On my shortlist I had
      Inter Bookings
      Frankfurt 2+ Goals
      Jovic Anytime Goalscorer

In terms of team news,Ante Rebic is out for the hosts which is a major blow. Himself, Jovic + Haller have a great understanding and compliment each other well. His absence imo does weaken them. However, Inter have been incredibly poor on the road and are weakened themselves through Icardis continued absence. Come into this off the back of a loss to Cagliari at the weekend, they are very unlikely to triumph in this one. Frankfurt DNB looks safe on accas.

Spanish home double looks decent at 11/10 tonight.
I watched the second half of Leverkusen v Krasnador, the russians loved defending, were patient, won a freekick and that sent them through.
I have no doubt they will defend well again tonight, honestly have no clue regarding Prague but Spanish teams in this competition are a class above and they treat it very serioisly.

When we think predicting football is easy, we then get a gentle reminder over the last few nights. It has been great entertainment, both champs league and europa are wide open.

Main bet the night is Seville against Slavia Prague. Seville have dominated in Europa League home ties with 16 scored and 1 conceded in 4 matches. Lazio 2-0 last round and in the groups they hammered Akhisarspor 6-0,Standard Liege 5-1 and Krasnador 3-0. With the first leg at home they’ll be looking to take a big advantage too Prague. Evens to cover the – 1 handicap for the 5th straight home Europa League game looks achievable and – 2 has a chance

    Seville – 1 Evens
    Seville -2 5/2

    Europa League treble

Lol we’re all in it but it’s City’s title and you know it. Second is as good as fourth. I too hope we get you in the quarters – you vastly underestimate us whilst your own club is failing again. Bring it on

    • maccathered 5 years ago

      Failing at what???

    • 10duff10 5 years ago

Failing at taking the opportunity to win the league much like under Rodgers. Domestically you’re like Spurs – bottlers. Yet every week you take every opportunity to have digs. You wouldn’t even get these types of responses on here if you could see how blinkered you are by your beloved Liverpool. It’s not the 80’s…

    • alex_mufc83 5 years ago

no prizes for second place in the PL though… shame.

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Who said we are going to finish second??Been inundated with texts from Man Utd fans saying we are going to win the league next year😂😂😂😂😂of course i replyed by saying calm down calm down.Typical mancs win a football match and all of a sudden they are world beaters.

    • alex_mufc83 5 years ago

you won’t find me saying that, but what you will find me saying is City are gonna win the league this season.

    • 10duff10 5 years ago

Macca, it’s not that we feel we are world beaters at all. It’s the relief that after 5 years of mediocrity we feel we are heading in the right direction under this leadership. Games like that prove this. That’s all.

    • elvis parsley 5 years ago

Liverpool won’t qualify by scoring nil, which they seem to excel at recently !!

    • GigiKenzo 5 years ago

You don’t give up a 9 points lead to become 2nd and still expect to win the league

    • maccathered 5 years ago

You don’t win leagues by conceding bucket loads either, something that Man Utd excel at.Liverpool are hard to beat and when your hard to beat you win titles.

    • GigiKenzo 5 years ago

Hard to beat by recording goalless draws

    • alex_mufc83 5 years ago

that is genuinely hilarious macca, “when you’re hard to beat you win titles” – as if you should know. It’s been almost 30 Years since Liverpool won the league and it wasn’t even called the Premier League back then LOL

    • 10duff10 5 years ago

Define bucket loads. Since OGS took charge we’ve conceded 10 league goals. The same as Liverpool. Looks like it’s neck and neck for the title 🙄

  26. kyle b 5 years ago

Would like opinions on the following potential bet tomorrow due to my lack of knowledge in Scottish Football.

Falkirk GOAL before 67 mins vs Ayr United 5/6 OR
    BTTS @ 4/5

Does either of these represent value. Looking at stats, Ayr look to be on a fairly torrid run of late and Falkirk having no trouble finding the net recently scoring in there last 9. Previous H2H was a shock 1-0 WIN for Falkirk when Ayr were flying back in Jan. Don’t know team news which obviously needs to be taken into consideration.

    Any advice greatly appreciated 👍

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Both look value. Check out the Falkirk v Ayr preview on the site.

    • kyle b 5 years ago

Both look value. Check out the Falkirk v Ayr preview on the site.

    • mr h 5 years ago

I’m no expert either but I fancy Falkirk to take at least a point from this one and 7/4 draw no bet is good value. Ayr have 2 wins in 11 in the league and Falkirk have lost 2 of 14. Home advantage and momentum in Falkirk favour

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

The only thing that would put me off a Falkirk win is Ayr’s display at Ross County. They were excellent and I was lucky my Super Single of a County win landed.

    • GregBrowning 5 years ago

Kyle, Mr Fixit and I had a chat about this game yesterday and as you know ive backed Falkirk a few times over the last couple of weeks

Goal before 67 mins looks a good shout and is a market I often do

I’m likely to NAP Falkirk double chance again at a great 4/5

    • nb89 5 years ago

I would also add that Zak Rudden at 10/3 anytime with Bet365 is a really good price. Scored a few this season including one last week.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

I’m tipping Falkirk draw no bet and Rudden anytime in tomorrow’s Record – I’d picked them out before reading the preview on the site and Rudden is also tipped there. Have a look.

    • kyle b 5 years ago

Thanks for all your input and I’ve also read the preview. I’ve also spoken to someone I know that follows Scottish Football and he seems confident on Ayr winning though he is not a betting man. Can’t back against him though with Falkirk DC, last few times I’ve asked his advice on Scottish teams he has been spot on. I’ve weighed everything up and backed BTTS at 4/5 as a single.

    • mr h 5 years ago

Kyle BTTS is probably the best angle to take, it’s a game that could go either way

    • chelseagirl 5 years ago

I am working at a Falkirk supporters house at the moment he says Ayr play the best footy in that divs.

    • kyle b 5 years ago

My mate is a Dundee United supporter so he knows the division quite well, he thinks a 2-1 or 3-1 victory for Ayr tomorrow though he hopes Falkirk surprise him.

Looks like I’ve entered the strange world of the ‘Macca thread.’
Mr F perhaps if the mighty Liverpudlians draw the Manc masters in the next round you could actually dedicate a separate thread ‘Macca vs Man U.’ (Side notes by Greg Browning).

It adds a bit of spice though I must admit.

    That’s all. Rogers over.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

People need to understand where macca is ccming from. He’s a dyed-in-the-wool Liverpool fan and all his bets are weighted in their favour.
I think he should be cut a bit of slack.

    • 10duff10 5 years ago

I would agree with you wholeheartedly but this isn’t about his Liverpool tips. It’s the consistent snipes and digs at Man United which do not help any betting strategy and causes this wonderful site to become more like a football fans forum.

Leave the churlish comments at the door and this all goes away for the benefit of all of us

    • alex_mufc83 5 years ago

disagree on that Mr F – If you dish it out first (which is often the case), you should expect to get it back. there shall be no slack given lol.

admittedly after a few comments backwards and forwards it does get rather tedious.

    • maccathered 5 years ago

I once read on here that a Man Utd fan claimed he wasn’t a plastic fan as he attended a night time champions league game, this is what us Liverpool fans have to deal with.

    • alex_mufc83 5 years ago

did that fan say that was the only game he’s been to? nah didn’t think so.
wonder how often said ‘Liverpool fan’ gets to Anfield seeing as he posts about Liverpool during game-time literally every single week.

    • 10duff10 5 years ago

If you’ve got time to post pointless rubbish such as this maybe you could comment on my previous posts so we could at least have a discussion.
BTW there are no successful clubs in the world without plastic fans. Without the day trippers from Europe and Asia and the TV money that is ploughed into clubs thanks to foreign fan bases the Premier League clubs would not be so wealthy and that includes Liverpool who have huge fan bases abroad.
You need to consider the wider context before posting such drivel

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

He asks for some of it but people forget where he is coming from.

William Hill sports special, penalty to be awarded in both Chelsea and Napoli games at 8/1. They offer this price giving you the impression it’s annenganced price. I’ve just used the terminal in one of the shops and both games are 3/1 to have a penalty awarded. I backed the both as a double at 15/1 which is almost double the odds of their great sports offer.

    Rennes v Arsenal

Slovakian refree Ivan Kruzliak averages 5.28 cards per game and has handed 2 red cards in his last 8 games.
Looking at Renenes’s last few games they are good for a card or two. Arsenal will take this game seriously because of uncertainty of premier league finish. Arsenal have had a red card in their last 2 away games and they will be without Laccazate because he got sent off against BATE in last round of Europa League. Rennes are unbeaten at last 12 Home games so they will be up for it. I like the look of cards and bookies know it as well.

Yes indeed, and my plane ticket on jun 1st too madrid is booked, regardless whos playing,a true football fan mate.

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Paris is easy la,have you tried Bate Borisov for instance.

    • jon 5 years ago

The problem with LFC every football fan i know is the arrogance and misguided thoughts Liverpool supporters have. The glory years have been over for almost three decades and it’s time to accept it. Because of the Liverpool’s fans attitude and behaviour, people in this country want them to lose to foreign opposition, and it doesn’t stem from jealousy thirty years ago, it’s simply that they have no grace or empathy to what other English teams have achieved.. I don’t know a single person other than their own fans who wants Liverpool to win the Champions league, and for an English team in my opinion that is sad but fully justified, i for one hope they get knocked out and keep living on their memories..!!

    • 10duff10 5 years ago

Bravo. Nominated for post of the year!

    • maccathered 5 years ago

You should write a book la

    • mr h 5 years ago

I want them too win it before any other English side 👋 just so all the people that batter Macca week in week out for being a fervent Red. There was no more arrogant than a Manc when SAF was in charge 👍🏻 swings n roundabouts folks

    • maccathered 5 years ago

Here here mr h,Mancs don’t think they are arrogant,Liverpool have a right they are European Elite and thats a fact.

    • 10duff10 5 years ago

Oh good lord. Under Ferguson we were successful so yes that bred confidence/arrogance.

Liverpool haven’t won anything of note since 2005!!! The arrogance is 30 years old for heavens sake. United aren’t arrogant now cos we know we are currently inferior as the league shows. Is it that difficult to understand?
You’d be ridiculing Nathan Ufton for larding on about Derby’s European wins 50 years ago but he doesn’t because it’s irrelevant.
      Wake up.

I did not post it because no one cares and I myself do not care..I decided not to follow anyone
Sometimes I get some ideas from the others at the end I play my own tips…

    Best of luck to everyone..

P .S. I still cannot swallow a scandalous decision from Paris but firstly I’m isolated in this opinion
secondly I wrote something not very polite about this yesterday but my post had been removed
very quickly by admin so I will not continue on this…I have to admit that sometimes when I’m angry
I’m might be rather sharp in my opinions I do not care about the others…well that’s my nature..
