IT was a fairly quiet Friday football night after all the drama at Cheltenham.
Well done to Donald Priest for winning our tipster competition and to Alan Thomson, Voice of Value and admin for all their hard work during the Festival.
Full attention turns back to the football today with a busy card including three FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday and the other on Sunday.
I've posted separate previews of the Scottish and English games and the weather has hit my selections pretty badly.
There have been plenty of postponements and the ones at Dunfermline, Dumbarton and Bury affected my tips. I've now voided the Top Treble after it became a single and there are two changes to the moneyback fivefold with West Ham and Preston replacing Bury and Ayr.

Not set on my Saturday selections and no chance I’ll be awake when this one has long seen the final whistle… but can’t help but think a fair price is on offer in Hong Kong. Clash of the top 2 attacking sides in the league, where BTTS and Overs has landed in the last 3 meetings (including the 1-3 win for Guangzhou in November). Both sides are in serious scoring form, with Guangzhou netting 3 on a tough away trip last time out and Kitchee scoring 9 in their last 2.
Admittedly, Kitchee have failed to score twice on the road to the better sides this season, but Guangzhou have kept just 3 clean sheets (against poor opposition), so I’m tempted in at a reserved stake.

Melbourne Victory have been in indifferent form lately, without a win in 6, losing 4 drawing 2 scoring 5 and conceding 11, all but crashing out the AFC champions League in the process. There is hope for Victory this morning though as for the first time in months Honda and Toivonen start together, and when these two play together, Victory win. It’s no coincidence for me that since Honda was injured and Toivonen was in and out of the team with muscle problems that Victory started to struggle. They were flying and scoring plenty at the beginning of the season. Athiu who replaced Toivonen, is a poor player and is just not good enough at this level.
Brisbane just can’t get a result and that’s been the case all season. They score plenty to be fair, with 12 in the last 6, it’s the other end that’s the problem, they’ve conceded 18 in the same period.
I don’t expect things to get any better for them against a Victory side looking to get back to winning ways.

What happened with the penalty?
The Jets player who scored had encroached into the penalty area before the kick was taken.
Is it seriously the rule that they get another penalty when that happens? You’d think it would be a free kick for the other team. Fortunately for Mariners they saved the second penalty as well.

Jesus Christ what a set of circumstances to beat a bet. Ladbrokes have paid out but I expect them to take it back at some point
Jets took a penalty and the keeper saved it. The follow up was scored by the Jets player.
VAR shows the Jets player had encroached into the box and the penalty is ordered to be retaken.
Same player takes the penalty and hits it to the same side and the keeper saves it again.

Or Swansea…. Now that was a howler. Or Derby at Notts Forest in Stuart Atkinsons first big match in the middle. It was a long time back, but if I remember rightly, Derby got an injurytime goal, think it was the winner from a corner. The ref blew up for a penalty to Derby and disallowed the goal. Derby step up, score, ref orders a retake. It gets saved.

Don’t worry we will finish top half. We are desperately missing Grabbans goals up front but he will back from injury after the international break. We have been really hit hard with shockingly bad referee decisions this season also. Leeds handball goal, West Brom dive for penalty, At Preston perfectly good goal ruled out, today against Ipswich we had. A goal ruled out for offside when Murphy was behind 3 Ipswich players!… that’s 8pts we have been robbed of and that would have put us fifth in the league. Everyone gets bad decisions I get that but we have been properly screwed this season. Don’t think we have been consistent enough this year but we can beat anyone in this league and have shown this. We will just miss out on playoffs imo but be comfortably top half don’t worry your money is safe 🤞😉
