Top Football Tips

IT turned out to be a smashing Sunday but both Rangers and Aberdeen made me sweat big time.

Rangers needed a last-gasp goal to beat a resilient Kilmarnock and the Dons came back from 2-1 to beat 10-man Hearts 3-2 with a couple of late strikes.

Their wins landed three of my bets – an 11-2 Top Treble, an 11-10 Daily Double and 23-10 Top Treble for profit of around 17 points.

Sam Cosgrove's opener for Aberdeen gave me a Super Single success at evens and a 22-1 winner for the VIP Tips after I doubled him with Cove's Mitch Megginson.

My only setback was a goals treble beaten by a 0-0 at Mouscron and it was disappointing because the other picks on my shortlist were all winners such as Man City v Liverpool and Den Haag v Utrecht.

Looks like a great day all round on the site with winners for the likes of Scott with the members bet, Greg's NAP, HullShaker, macca, sb and cockerspaniel. Also SlipsTips with some nice picks on his match previews including Killie's Alan Power to be booked.

So after a hectic weekend it's time to breathe before going again. On Monday the Championship game sees Huddersfield entertain Derby and Rams fan Nathan doesn't see his side losing so check out his comment.

Not much else to look out but if I've picked out a double with some site assistance. Happy to risk 1pt after a flying start to the month.

I'm taking Derby not to lose against a Huddersfield side who may take some time to adapt to life in the Championship after a terrible season in the top flight.

Shortee has put up a good case for Bodo Glimt who are chasing Molde at the top of the Norwegian league. Glimt have won four out of five and travel to baement boys Stromsgodset. Should win but did lose 6-0 at Valerenga on their last road trip so I'm taking less risk with them not to lose.

That double looks OK at 7-5 but I'm adding Djurgaardens draw no bet at Elfsborg. Again the visitors should win against side who have suffered back-to-back three-goal defeats but they haven't triumphed at this venue in four attempts so I'll go draw no bet.

Also putting up an early Super Single although it's arisky one without team news. There are first round games in the Challenge Cup tomorrow and Lowland League title favourites Kelty Hearts make their tournament debut.

Kelty, managed by Barry Ferguson, are hugely ambitious and signed four senior players in the summer including striker Nathan Austin from Inverness. That was a bit of a coup as he's good enough to still be playing at Championship level.

Kelty have started with two league wins and as long as they go strong tomorrow should beat Kilmarnock Colts. The young senior teams have mainly struggled in this competition against older and more experienced professionals and I like the Fifers at 17-10 with McBookie – they are short as 4-6 in Ladbrokes shops.

Remember to check out WeLoveBetting for their tips and video chat.

Sky sports calling the shots sees my beloved Derby away to Huddersfield shifted back 24hrs to Monday night.
A few nights back, I pointed out that Derby do tend to make a slow start to a championship campaign and if memory serves me right, it was a good 5 years back when we led the charge with a bag full of wins to lay down an early marker. We stutter a bit and I guess it’s the same for everyone, we have to bed in a bit before we know where we are. However, ever since we dropped back into the championship after that horrid season in the top flight 11 years back, Derby have NOT lost an opening game, winning 5 and drawing 5. Last seasons opener at Reading saw us come from a goal down to steal it at the death with a 2-1 score line.
All we really have to go on for form is last years stats – which are irrelevant now. The Lampard saga was sorted as soon as the new financial window opened and we’ve a Dutchman at the helm – who likes to nurture the young guns. It seems to be the Dutch way ( as we saw with a fighting Ajax team in the CL ). With Liverpool expecting/hoping to sell on Wilson for around £25 mill – which we can’t afford and Mount and Tomori being thrust into a Chelsea side short of two transfer windows, we won’t be getting either of them back. This leaves a big big hole in Derby’s quality. Some big money names have finished up hoovering out the bank vault and have now left Derby – Nugent/Lolley/Johnson/Butterfield leaving a few surprising names still on the fringes of team selection, but we did say goodbye with a very heavy heart to Craig Bryson who wants to see his career out back in Scotlandshire. He’d had about a season or so on loan and then came back into last years squad, not quite at the level he did with his 2x league hatricks and 17 goals but he was a top quality box to box midfielder. We paid peanuts for him but wow, we got our moneys worth. Martin, Anya and Thorne are still on the books and have played a big part in pre-season. I’d love to see Martin up to near his best up front with Marriott – that partnership could be lethal and I think Thorne has lost confidence.
When a manager says he’ll be looking to bring through youth, it sounds a bit like ” Mel Morris’s cheque book is now closed ” + ffp. Many fans hit the panic button and then out of nowhere, Middlesbrough announce that their chairman has just completed a medical – on hearing the news that Derby had just spent £10 mill on an Arsenal midfielder. Quickly joined by highly rated Matt Clarke on season long loan from Brighton. We’d already signed Shinnie and an Everton Midfielder too and it is looking like the gaffer has found Derby’s weakness and tried to fix it .. Ask any fan and they’ll tell you we cannot defend set pieces and have no dominance in the air. I think that will change.
Huddersfield have kept a lot of their squad, but can they cope with the pace change of the championship where anyone can beat anyone?
I’ll be having a cheeky £10 on Derby I grabbed @ 14/5 today with bet365, however, the very smart money has to go on the Derby double result. Unbeaten in the last 10 opening games of the season. Oddschecker throws up a regular price of around 4/6 for the Derby double result, but 7/10 and 8/11 can be found on the same site.
Best of luck tomorrow night guys, I’ll be on around 7pm with team news.

    Brilliant stuff Mr F 👏👏

Looking good in Paraguay and will add a late Night Owl shout…

    SANTIAGO MORNING VS. PUERTO MONTT
    (1.00am):

Puerto Montt are in fine fettle and the prices look a little too big here with SM well capable of chipping in with a goal – H2H’s have always been fairly consistent for me so:

    OVER 2.5 GOALS

Night Owl and, once again, it’s a case of any Porteno in a storm…

CERRO PORTEÑO VS. CLUB GUARANÍ (2300KO)

Got to fancy Cerro to take their chances against Guarani here – prices look to be a touch on the generous side with no immediate Libertadores fixture headaches for the hosts.

They’ve hit 2-3-3-1-4-2-1-5-7-2-2 team goals in their last 11 home matches with an impressive record of 5-1-2-4 team goals scored against Guarani on home soil across consecutive H2H’s!

    Two selections worth considering:

    CERRO OVER 1.5 TGS
    (4/5, bet365) ✅

    CERRO OVER 2.5 TGS
    (5/2, bet365) 👎

    Crap first half but a cracking 2nd – final score 2-2 👍

    Stromgodset vs Bobo/Glimt (KO 6pm)

Shortee has already mentioned this game and its hard to argue based on current form and the fact Stromgodset are bottom of the league and Bobo are scoring for fun but I’m going for goals.

Bobo/Glimt have been terrific to back for goals and although Bobo should win at a very generous 1/1, I’m taking over 3.0 goals on the Asian Handicap (money back if 3 goals) at even money

    Good afternoon all,

Didn’t put anything on over the course of the weekend however I’ll start the new season with a bet builder with 365 for tonight’s game Huddersfield vs Derby. Nothing fancy however:

Huddersfield over 0 cards in match
Derby over 1 corner in match
    0.33/1

    Stake 1pt.

Hoping this will be very straight forward and start the season with a win and some easy profit. Aim of the whole season is to keep it easy and straight forward then by the time may comes, have a big jar of profits…. well that’s the aim anyways!!

    All the best!

Looking at a bit of NILF action later on with 3rd versus 1st in the 2nd tier of Northern Ireland’s Ladies Football…

    CARNMONEY VS. LURGAN TOWN LADIES
    (7.30pm):

No shortage of goals in both sides games but to be fair, that’s more an illustration of the gap in quality between the better and (ahem) the not quite so good!

Lurgan have been involved with a couple of 11-0s this season whilst Carnmoney will hit this game on the back of putting 17 past bottom side Crewe!

So, it will likely be a more even affair and with the most recent May H2H seeing a 7-1 scoreline to Lurgan, there’s a fair chance of more goals:

    Recommended bet

    Over 4.5 goals
    (11/10, bet365) NAP

    Best of luck!

    • nathanufton 5 years ago

Hi mate, yes, there is talk of Rooney joining Derby. If it happens I think it could be a shrewd move considering he’s still only 33 and still wants to play. His pocket money will of taken a hit when he headed to USA, but it would take another hit because we could afford maybe 20k a week, but we’d want football out of him. Too many have rocked up at Derby recently for the money and added nothing to our campaign. That gravy train has left the station. If he can add some quality up front and inspire a few of the young ones, I think we could get a decent season out of him – even though his career is coming to an end.

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Great start for Derby. Easy and cheap cover available on the top treble for anyone who thinks it’s necessary.

  24. tigerman1 5 years ago

Usually I’m a hit & miss with bets, but I think WH’s boosted offer of 5/1 for each team to get over 1 card in Nurnberg vs. Hamburg and Huddersfield vs. Derby has a good chance of coming in. gonna have a nibble. Referees in both games average 4 cards per game. Hope they keep the spirit up!

The Night Owl sees me still lurking around Paraguay’s capital Asuncion after last night’s late drama…

    LIBERTAD VS. OLIMPIA (12.30pm)

Some great looking bets here and, as Elander has already mentioned, Olimpia will pull in a lot of punters with their form.

Funny things these Asuncion derbies though and Libertad are in pretty mean form themselves – I’ve just got s sneaking suspicion that Olimpia won’t have it all their own way!

Team goals could be fruitful and certainly both sides to net but there just isn’t enough value in the prices – instead, I’m taking a different angle for a lower stake at a bigger price.

Paraguayan games have a habit of switching on in the 2nd ’45 and this was certainly evidenced in Cerro’s game last night and a good few others recently – not one to go mad on but:

Both sides to score in 2nd half
    (2/1, bet365) NB

    Good luck!

    Derby team news:

Roos, Keogh (C), Dowell, Waghorn, Lawrence, Jozefzoon, Clarke, Evans, Bogle, Huddlestone, Malone.

Subs: Mitchell, Shinnie, Marriott, Bennett, Lowe, Davies, Knight.

Marriott on the bench – Thigh injury picked up in pre-season, Derby’s record signing from Arsenal Bielik is not in the squad, but highly rated central defender Clarke is in the starting 11.
It looks like a 4-3-3 to me.

    Roos
    Malone, Keogh, Clarke, Bogle
    Dowell, Huddlestone, Evans
    Lawrence, Waghorn, Jozefzoon

Too early to say what I think of the starting line up, Roos seems to be the number 1 keeper, with high earning Carson in the final year of his contract. Malone, Keogh, Bogle and Waghorn are probably the best options for what we’ve got available, but I’m on the fence on the rest of them.
Still thinking a Derby double result is a smart move, considering we don’t know a great deal about how both sides will fare tonight. But I shall be cracking open a cold one and putting my feet up as it’s on the telly.

    Good luck folks
