Women’s Champions League ain’t my strong point but I can’t resist Man City 19/20 away at Athletic Madrid.
City have reached the semis the last 2 seasons before succumbing too narrow 1 goal aggregate losses too 5 times winners Lyon who have won the last 3 on the trot. They’ve played 8 times away from home in the competition and won 6 of those, a 1-1 draw at Brondby and a 1-0 loss at Lyon being the exceptions but they did win one of those 1-0 in Lyon in the 2017 semi.
Athletico on the other hand have played two seasons in the competition. First time out in 2015 they drew Zorkiy of a Russian, they lost 2-0 at home before turning it around 3-0 away. They were then beaten 3-1 at home and hammered 6-0 away by Lyon so 9-1 on aggregate. No qualification in 2016 but in 2017 they drew Wolfsburg first up and lost 3-0 at home before a humiliation of 12-2 in Germany for a 15-2 aggregate score.
This is Madrid first outing this season in the competition and I don’t see it being an enjoyable one, City should be too strong today.

Drawn to an effort in the Women’s CL after monitoring Wednesday’s games. A goal laden tournament if there ever was one in the earlier rounds, the knockout rounds can often be a little more indecipherable. I did like the look of the Linkopings game to go overs on Wednesday and that flew in (1-6), which has given me a little more confidence on this one.
I backed Gintra not long ago when they smashed a bunch of jokers 0-9 in the previous round and their record in the CL is reasonably consistent. They tend to batter the nobodies, play out score draws with those on their level and come unstuck against decent sides. A constant is that their CL games usually see goals. Dating as far back as 2012, all but one of their CL ties have seen 2+ goals, whilst 22 of 30 have seen at least 3+ goals.
Their visitors in this last 16 tie are Slavia Prague who dish out weekly spankings to rival those found in your internet search history. So far they’ve scored 33 without conceding in just 3 league games as both they and rivals Sparta swing their knockers and lay down some early season markers. Fortunately, their goalscoring exploits often follow them around the continent. Their group games this season were particularly exciting (4-0, 4-1, 7-2) and by all accounts they know where the goal is.
Of the 3 ties played today, I expected this to be priced up the shortest. It is in fact the longest, which has tempted me right in. This could be a tightish affair (1-1, 1-2, perhaps) but I think the price is too big in the context of the tournament and the sides involved. I thought I’d be lucky to see 8/13 on offer for the overs, so I’m diving in.

Looks like this could be a goal laden encounter with Vikingur sitting top of the league and totals in their recent home matches of 6-7-3-5-2-7-9-3-5 match goals. Leiknir have scored in their last 9 aways but have been beaten in 7 of those, sitting in 7th place in the table. Their away totals read 3-7-5-11-4-8-9-5-3.
An initial look at 365 makes shows no asian goal line avaialable, only over 2.5 at 3/20. However, the betbuilder option offers Over 5 goals @ 13/8 – decent value given the above. I’ll be on the look out for slightly lower lines closer to kick off but will have small stakes on the following for now:

Phew!
Alongside proof-reading a paper I’m writing, I managed to find a stream for this game through the Slavia women’s Twitter account. I barely paid attention to the first half as I begun evaluating my life choices. At half time, I wrote the bet off as a loser and thought I’d watch some of the game.
The standard, and I’m being kind, was for the most part comical. Slavia were streets ahead of Gintra but that isn’t saying much. I’ve never seen so many foul throws, and I’m sure there were more aimless hoofs and dodgy touches than you’d see from your local pub side down the park on a Sunday morning.
Imagine my surprise when, after two scrappy goals, a Slavia player held the ball up and hit a bending effort into top bins on the turn on the 88th minute to make it 0-3.
