IT'S a big Europa League night with Celtic, Rangers and Burnley all trying to book a place in the groups.

I'll post a separate preview covering mainly the Scots duo and I expect both to win and qualify.

Celtic beat Lithuanian minnows Suduva 10-1 on aggregate when they met 16 years ago while Rangers entertain a Ufa side who are playing in Europe for the first time and struggling domestically.

Burnley have battled past Aberdeen and Istanbul after away draws and there could be another in Greece against Olympiakos.

My Super Single is simply a double on Rangers and Celtic and if you're feeling braver take both -1 at 26-5 with McBookie.

Add Celtic and Rangers to big guns Zenit, Sevilla and Atalanta for a fivefold that pays 5-1 and do it with acca insurance. Zenit were the miracle men in the last round as they recovered from losing 4-0 at Dinamo Minsk in the first leg. Eventually they won the second leg 8-1 after extra time and should see off a Molde side that took care of Hibs.

Atalanta have been impressive in strolling past Sarajevo and Hapoel Haifa and next up it's Copenhagen who will give them a tougher test but the Italians should win at home. The Danes have knocked out KuPS, Stjarnan and CSKA Sofia.

Europa League experts Sevilla were superb at the weekend as they hammered Rayo 4-1 and head to Sigma Olomouc looking to take a lead home.

Last night my both to score treble was a loser and the double was a goal short in the Young Boys game which was disappointing after it was 1-1 at half-time. Now I'm wishing I'd taken both to score instead of over 2.5 goals.

Well done to all the winners and good luck on Thursday.

The Hudson River or New York derby, whatever you want to call it kicks off at midnight.

Nyc are at home but both teams are desperate for the points with only 1point separating them in the league, these games have been so unpredictable and their has been some one sided games but i reckon both will be on the scoresheet tonight

    Btts + O2.5 – 4/5

    ————–

    Rangers O1.5 EVENS

Will be looking to ‘kill’ the tie here by taking a decent lead to Russia as the return leg is a couple of days before the big first old firm game of the season. Rangers will not be messing about, another full house and will be all out attack.

I like the look of Mr F old firm double

    • fraser51 6 years ago

How there was only two goals in new york i will never know, red bulls had not one but a two man advantage and it finishes 1-1 in a well fired up match.

Nyc picked up their first red card on 40 mins then another on 78mins.

Even down to 9 men nyc were still pushing for a goal, there was so much space for red bulls to exploit but their final ball was woeful.

Bet down but an entertaining start to a few nights of mls.

Still no other team got me changing my mind from Atlanta this year

    Hi gents.

Skipping Europe and heading to the US for a late one tomorrow with Chicago hosting Columbus Crew. The Fire have now lost 8 of their last 10 with six losses on the bounce. The Crew put up a good fight in Atlanta last time out but ultimately lost the game 3-1, while Montreal beat Chicago in Canada to land a bet for us.

The Fire have conceded 2+ in 8 of their last 9 now, and they’ll do well to keep out Columbus I think. Zardes scored his 15th goal of the season in Atlanta, no other player has more than 4 goals for them.

    USA MLS – Friday – 12:00AM

    Columbus Crew 1st Half Goal @ 5/6 @ 365 – 3 points

    Gyasi Zardes Anytime @ 6/5 @ 365 – 1 point

Does anyone have the result for Hulls leiknar/kB u19 v Grindavik u19 game please? Paddy power have settled my bet as a loss (over 4.5 goals),while I believe bet 365 settled the bet as a winner.
    Thanks in advance.

    • tortoise 6 years ago

@discodale I was on over 5.5 goals for this and Paddy Power have returned my stake. Can’t find out what the result was or whether the game even went ahead.

I think Matt on here was on over 4,5 5 goal line (prob with bet 365) and was paid out for the win.

    Weekend Premier League tips
    Wolves v Man City
    Over 3.5 goals at 5/4*****
    Over 4.5 goals at 3/1***
    Over 5.5 goals at 7/1
I think Wolves have come down to earth with a bang having entered the Premier League fraternity and i must say i haven’t been impressed by them at all.One thing i do appreciate though is that new players have to settle in and it takes time.Wolves defense is a concern and i think they will get mauled in this game, with City’s attack and the flair of David Silva a long 90 minutes for Wolves.

    Bournemouth v Everton
Btts and over 2.5 goals at 20/21*****

    • imitationleather 6 years ago

Spurs fan here but I’m not confident about Monday’s game. Even though they’re in a bit of a state at the mo United are always a tough team for us, especially at Old Trafford. Man U also really have something to prove after the Brighton game and I can’t see them losing two in a row, unless Mourinho is actually hoping to be fired. The number of goals at Liverpool v Brighton seems a tad optimistic too. Brighton look like a well-organised team who will be able to frustrate everyone in the league. There’s only a couple of sides in the Premier League this season who look like they will definitely be conceding a load when faced with superior opposition and I don’t think Brighton are one of them.

Pretty confident on your Wolves prediction though, they’re out of their depth at this level and Man City are just ruthless. So I will be following.

Must say I’ve been very impressed with your picks and am just offering an opinion. Good luck!

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Your opinion is appreciated,Brighton away from home are a different prospect indeed, they always get battered at Anfield and i see it being no different on Saturday,Liverpool have put 4 and 5 goals past Brighton in their last two meetings home and away and they should be on the end of another hiding on Saturday,i wouldn’t take Brightons result on board as going to Anfield is a lot tougher than facing a United side in turmoil,if Liverpool score early doors then it could be 6 or 7 here.Tottenham should see of Man Utd away as they are a lot more organised than this current Man Utd side,a team cannot perform as they did v Brighton and then turn it on in a space of a week it doesn’t work like that, add to the fact we are going to see a set of fans that are pretty much disgruntled at the players and the way the club is being run this feeds onto the pitch and it won help Man Utd’s cause in any way.correct score Man utd 0-3.
      Best of luck

    • maccathered 6 years ago

I’m pretty confident on all my tips this weekend as you will see by the stars.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Just to add to Mourihno’s predicament,he has no Number 2 now,he hasn’t been backed by the board who imo have no confidence in him,it’s only a matter of time before Mourihno is gone,he obviously has lost the dressing room after that performance the other night.

    • imitationleather 6 years ago

You could be right. It is just in my nature as a Spurs fan to be pessimistic about this fixture (and especially any against Mourinho! His brand of football can really suffocate Tottenham’s attacking style, which is why I reckon a draw would be a result for us).

I do think Jose will be gone before Christmas, the whole atmosphere seems like an exact copy of his last few months at Chelsea. Got no clue why it’s come to this, the Man U job appears to have been his ambition all along but he’s throwing it away.

No idea who they will get in next. I don’t see Zidane touching the job with a bargepole.

      im confident united will beat spurs on monday night ,mourinho wont be sacked by christmas . { guaranteed}
few things need sorting out ,united will come good again they always do . as someone said on the thread last week the media always add fuel to the fire thats there job make a mountain out of a mole.man city are miles ahead of everyone and i can see the dominating for years to come,

      btts united to win 4/1

    • maccathered 6 years ago

If they had a fully fit squad they maybe would have stood a chance monday night v Spurs but i can’t see it,i can’t even see United scoring to be honest but again we all have our opinions, against Brighton they looked like they didn’t have any identity and certainly had no shape to the side, maybe if Smalling and Jones were fit then United maybe would scrape a draw,Kane and co will be relishing this game.

i hope smalling and jones are playing ,i think united have beaten spurs on ther last 6 or seven visits to old trafford not sure , cant see that changing now ,but i do expect it to be a tough game dele alli to be sent off

  16. mr h 6 years ago

Does anybody even know why Ufa are in the Europa League? From what I can see they finished 6th and outside the European places.

Hope both the old firm can qualify and gain more coefficient points on what’s been a decent qualifying campaign so far

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

One of the top five must have won the Russian Cup – same way Hibs got in with Celtic winning the cup.

    • mr h 6 years ago

Checked that Mr F, Tosno who were relegated won the Russian Cup. I did notice Krasnador finished 5th and haven’t played a qualifier but I’m presuming they’ve qualified directly or perhaps not eligible for European football. Strange

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Krasnodar definitely straight into groups because I looked at those the other day. Seems Tosno disbanded after problems gaining a licence that would have allowed them to play in the Europa League.

1st leg Europa leagues play off matches are always much trickier to predict so won’t be going to daft – Don’t really fancy anything as a NAP so instead I’ve gone for two bets that I expect shouldn’t be too far away

    Olympiakos v Burnley
Over 2.5 goals at 6/4 (NAP)*****
    Over 3.5 goals at 7/2***
    Over 4.5 goals at 15/2
It’s getting to the business end of the play offs and the games don’t come much tougher than this one for Burnley and one thing for sure is the lack of European experience is going to tell. It’s ok going defensive away from home thats what teams looking for success in the comp should do, but at a team like Olympiakos they will make you play open lure you into an attacking game and then hit you,it might be tight for the first twenty mins or so but it will open up and hopefully we see a few goals.

    Sarpsborg v Maccabi Tel Aviv
Sarpsborg to win at 2/1 (NB)

BEST OF LUCK ALL WITH A BET ON.

I posted a game last week that I was sweet as hell on but alas, it disappeared into the ‘Nordic Triangle’ never to be seen again…or so I thought – it’s back on the menu again tonight at a rescheduled time of 2100…

THERE’S always the chance of goals when it comes to the Scandinavian youth leagues.

Icelandic youth action here and although it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, it has been one of the most consistent leagues for goals over recent years and some of the scorelines are simply eyewatering.

    LEIKNIR/KB U19 VS. GRINDAVÍK/GG U19 (8pm)

These two played their most recent H2H just 10 weeks ago with the small matter of 11 match goals in an 8-3 home victory for Grindavik – not too shabby as recent goals-form goes and, although it’s unlikely we’ll see an exact repeat,  there’s every chance of a healthy final score!

Both sides have had a fairly active start to their respective Youth campaigns and these are reflected in the most recent match goal totals over the last 4 months:

    H: 6-5-7-4-4-5-5-11-4-8-9-5-5-3-7-5-10

    A: 6-3-6-4-0-2-2-1-11-9-4-12-3-3-8-6-5

Like I said, these are some of the most consistently high scoring games in Europe and the fact that only 3 of the hosts last 17 matches finished with less than 5 goals puts that into perspective.

The significant difference to other ‘high scoring’ leagues (and the reason I like it so much) is that it’s rarely a quality gulf resulting in vast thumpings of 10-0, etc as seen in the Finnish Kolkolmen and similar leagues – instead what you find in the Icelandic Youth is scorelines of 5-4, 7-3, etc where BOTH teams are working for you to help amass that goals tally.

Really brief reasoning and narrowed down my thoughts to one game that looks to have more potential than others around it…

    THÓR VS. MAGNI (1900 KO):

Not so much the historic picture that appeals here but the context more recently.

Thor’s combined match goals total 44 within the last 9 matches whilst Magni look lost at sea sitting rock-bottom with 50 match goals over a 24 game spell..the majority of which have been against them since their promotion from 2 Deild.

    Zenit WTF?!

    • oz777 6 years ago

Watched the first half. Molde are no mugs.
They’re well organised, workmanlike, and have limited Zenit to a few snatched chances.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

They held Hibs away remember – still a shock scoreline especially after the way Zenit performed at home in the last round.

    • kpoothegreatest 6 years ago

Let’s hope Zenit wake up in the 2nd half

    • imitationleather 6 years ago

Ugh. 3:1. Why did I not bet on Zenit to win when they were down? It was so obvious this was going to happen, and there were crazy odds on them winning the tie at half-time.

I had the same feeling when they were 4:0 down in the tie last week. I could be on a (admittedly hired) yacht right now if I’d followed my gut instincts.

A bit of a p*sser that the first half goal acca is down so early in the night. Didn’t have massive money on it, but Trencin and Larnaca, you spoilt a bit of fun there.

HVÍTI RIDDARINN VS. MÍDAS (2100 KO):

Midas held the golden touch earlier in the week and this one could hold a few nuggets in the shape of goals.

I won’t trot out the stats again but suffice to say a total of 21 goals in the last 4 H2H’s, 59 in Hviti’s last 11 and 58 in Midas’last 11 point to goals.

      3:0 at half-time (including a missed penalty).

Six goals in this one would make the evening a bit less of a disaster. G’warn.

Brilliant stuff Macca – apparently a lot of the Burnley fans were pictured with nosebleeds leaving the ground – nothing to do with crowd trouble mind – most have never travelled past Pendle Hill and none have ever seen 4 goals before ?

    • imitationleather 6 years ago

      Haha.

Got to admit I was expecting a low-scoring one but that went out the window when it was 1:1 at half-time. No way were Olympiakos going to the second leg with a draw.

Been a poor night for me so far. Celtic and Atalanta seriously let me down.

    • imitationleather 6 years ago

A goal after 25 seconds in your Iceland pick @hullshaker. :o

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Always going to be goals in the game,i kept away from Atalanta but they will probably win on the handicaps away.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

      Haha.

    • admadi 6 years ago

Cheers Macca. I decided I was going to follow your tips more closely. Took your nap and your nb and also took them as a double which was 6/1. Thanks .

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Nice to hear mate can’t complain at 6/1,as long as you can take the losers as well as winners, remember we can;t win them all,so my advise is always keep stakes sensible.

    • warktheline 6 years ago

      Top stuff ?

  51. leroy 6 years ago

Absolute stinker from myself this evening so glad I at least kept the stakes reserved. Well done all winners – bold pick from Macca in Greece and it certainly paid off.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

      I wouldn’t say bold leroy.

    • imitationleather 6 years ago

Now that Burnley are effectively out – I cannot see them turning that scoreline around – I wonder if their league form will pick up. They didn’t really seem to be able to cope with the strain of having to play two matches a week across the continent.

    • kyle b 6 years ago

Can’t rule us out yet, if Olympiakos would have got a 4th then effectively it would be game over but there is hope with only a 2 goal deficit. We are more than capable of a 2-0 win on home turf.

Our squad isn’t equipped to play on a constant Thursday/Sunday basis, we simply don’t have any depth. We were particularly dire in the second half against Watford, it’s not that the Hornets played particularly well but our players were simply exhausted. Not expecting us to take anything away from Craven Cottage in the upcoming game.
