THERE'S a Friday night feast of football as the Premier League kicks off with Arsenal v Leicester and Celtic travel to Partick Thistle in the Premiership.
Nice face Troyes and Rennes tackle Lyon in Ligue 1 and Greg will have goals tips as usual from Ligue 2.
There are top-flight matches in Holland, Belgium, Portugal and Turkey as well as Irish Cup clashes so plenty to consider.
I've posted some Premier League anteposts and thoughts on the Arsenal game and have added a Partick v Celtic preview later.
For now I have a Super Single on Celtic -2AH and have had a look at other games on what could be a tricky night.
I'm not having any other bets on Celtic bar the Super Single and I'm not sure where the value lies with Arsenal even though I expect them to win.
I liked the look of Malmo at home to Kalmar but they've just about won the league and are without star striker Markus Rosenberg who is likely to be replaced by Celtic flop Jo Inge Berget. Kalmar are fighting the drop but have won three in a row.
Nice face Napoli in a tough Champions League qualifier next week so check their team before betting on that game. They are strong favourites to beat Troyes at home but will be without injured duo Mario Balotelli and Wylan Cyprien.
With doubts about so many teams and selections I'm going with an over 2.5 goals treble and the reasoning is on a separate post.
On Thursday my only tip was a both to score double at Gothenburg and Bury and it was let down as HullShaker's men failed to score. Didn't help with star man Jermain Beckford only playing the final 20 minutes.
Well done to any winners including Jordan who landed another Chinese cracker.

Interestingly enough the price has shortened with most bookies including Marathon who I quoted yesterday at 57/50, now offering 93/100, however Coral are the best price out there at 23/20, imo huge price for a fixture that always sees goals – the past 7 in a row have all seen at least 3 goals

The Gooners historically start seasons pretty poorly – I believe they’ve won only 1 in 7 of their last openers! Leicester don’t have the greatest of records in H2H’s though and haven’t defeated Arsenal in years.

I fully expect Ajax to win here, so I will take them on the asian handicap. Heracles lost their last pre-season game with 2-0 at Jupiler League club Emmen. They played their strongest team for the first hour and were 2-0 behind in the 57th minute. When Ajax don’t sell more players they will be the team to beat this season. I think they were quite good against Nice, dominating the second half in France. The last 3 seasons this game ended 0-2 and I think we will have something similar on Saturday.

PSV v AZ (Saturday)
PSV managed to score 1 goal in their last 450 minutes of Football. Yes, 3 of the 5 games were friendlies, but what I have seen from them in both EL qualifiers against Osijek was horrible. Their defence is quite good, but they just can’t score at the moment. I expect another slow start in their season opener against AZ. PSV sold Propper to Brighton this week and with Guardado also gone it looks all a bit uncertain in midfield. Last year PSV started their first 3 home games with 1-0 (v AZ), 0-0 and 0-1 results and I think this season will start the same. AZ are a well organized team and strong at the back.

It’s the first round of the German cup this weekend and with the Bundesliga yet to start there have been plenty of upsets at this stage in the past and I’m giving it a miss and will focus on the Austrian leagues instead with one fixture standing out in particular and I’m posting this today with the odds shortening.

Sturm Graz v Wolfsberger Saturday 5.30 pm
Graz are one of the top teams in the Bundesliga and in my opinion pose the main threat to serial winners Red Bull Salzburg this season. They have started with two 3-2 wins and face a Wolfberger team that don’t score/concede many.
Wolfberger’s first two games ended in a one nil defeat (Mattersburg) and a one nil win (Altach). However none of these teams are of the quality of tomorrow’s opponents and the last time they went to Sturm Graz in April they lost 4-0,
the season before 3-0. In fact they haven’t scored at Graz on their last five visits, losing all five. They are also missing defender Zundel who is suspended.
Everything points to Graz goals here but 4/6 for over 1.5 tg looks a little short.
One interesting fact is that Graz have gone 24 consecutive matches without a draw. If that trend continues it will either be a Sturm Graz victory tomorrow or a big upset with Wolfsberger winning.
I’m going for a Graz win but 8/13 is too short so I’m taking a chance on the handicap.

The Gooners historically start seasons pretty poorly – I believe they’ve won only 1 in 7 of their last openers! Leicester don’t have the greatest of records in H2H’s though and haven’t defeated Arsenal in years.
I don’t think Arsenal will boss this game and Leicester will make it tough going – just think the price/time for an away goal looks far too big against another transitionary Gunners defence:

I found today’s card very tricky, with most matches very well priced.
If I have time I’ll post some comments later on a couple of the Brazil Serie B matches where there seems to be some value, but still I’m not sure I’ll place a bet on them. It will probably depend on my results in the afternoon. The matches are Brasil Pelotas vs Guarani (for over 2.5 goals) and America MG vs Nautico (for under 2.5 goals).
My tip today is an accumulator, to try to find value in matches where we could see plenty of goals:

Brazil Serie B tonight
– Brasil de Pelotas vs Guarani – Brasil de Pelotas is a very unpredictable team; they can beat a top 5 team in excellent fashion and lose the next match to a team in the relegation zone. Their matches usually have a high number of goals scored, though. I found the high odds for the over 2.5 mgls (2.39 aprox.) very attractive and I am tempted to place a bet here. Maybe that’s because Guarani has a high number of injured/suspended players, and can play defensively…still there seems to be value here.
– Vila Nova vs Boa EC – This, imho, is a match that will certainly have a low number of goals scored. The odds for under 2.5 mgls are skinny (1.57 aprox.), so I’d only use it in accas. Vila Nova will play with an empty stadium (sanction for recent supporters violence) and their main striker is suspended. Both facts contribute to a low-scoring match, I believe. Boa is a team that usually plays solidly and defensively.
– America MG vs Nautico – Even though this is a match between the teams placed first and last in the league I do not believe we will see America MG crushing Nautico. America MG is not a goal machine, and Nautico seems to have solved part of its defensive issues recently. Under 2.5 goals here seems a good bet (1,80 odds).

Sturm Graz v Wolfsberger Saturday 5.30 pm
Graz are one of the top teams in the Bundesliga and in my opinion pose the main threat to serial winners Red Bull Salzburg this season. They have started with two 3-2 wins and face a Wolfberger team that don’t score/concede many.
Wolfberger’s first two games ended in a one nil defeat (Mattersburg) and a one nil win (Altach). However none of these teams are of the quality of tomorrow’s opponents and the last time they went to Sturm Graz in April they lost 4-0,
the season before 3-0. In fact they haven’t scored at Graz on their last five visits, losing all five. They are also missing defender Zundel who is suspended.
Everything points to Graz goals here but 4/6 for over 1.5 tg looks a little short.
One interesting fact is that Graz have gone 24 consecutive matches without a draw. If that trend continues it will either be a Sturm Graz victory tomorrow or a big upset with Wolfsberger winning.
I’m going for a Graz win but 8/13 is too short so I’m taking a chance on the handicap.
