IT was one winner and one loser for me on the Champions League last night.

My Daily Double won at 23-10 thanks to Ludogerets and Legia Warsaw -ironically both were knocked out – while I was a Bruges goal short on the 9-2 both to score treble.

I resumed Bet of the Day and the app double with wins and also tipped Celtic to squeeze through against Rosenborg and that's exactly what they did. The game turned in their favour when Leigh Griffiths came on and James Forrest hit the only goal of a tight two-legged tie.

Celtic will face Qarabag, Astana, Slavia Prague, Rijeka or Hapoel Beer Sheva for a group spot. They knocked out Astana and Hapoel last season and recently defeated Qarabag but will prefer to play Slavia or Rijeka for travel reasons.

Tonight it's the turn of Aberdeen and Everton in the Europa League and I've posted a separate preview mainly covering the Scottish club's trip to Cyprus to face Apollon. Aberdeen lead 2-1 and have been boosted by the fact the game has been moved to Larnaca because Apollon's stadium doesn't meet UEFA criteria.

My main tip for this one is both to score while I feel Everton, who lead 1-0, will achieve a similar result away to Ruzomberok so consider the Toffees to win to nil.

I'd been focusing on my antepost picks after reading the excellent Racing Post pullout but have now picked out Europa League tips for tonight. If you missed the RP yesterday you will be able to buy the pullout in shops for £3.25 or order one online at racingpost.com/shop.

For the Top Treble I'm starting with Shkendija who are at home to Trakai. I'm going against Jordan a little here because I expect the Macedonians to win. They lost the away leg 2-1 with nine men and of course those two players will be banned but until they were reduced they were the better side and I expect them to win and probably qualify.

Add Braga who drew 1-1 against an AIK side who are better at home. The Portuguese team are stronger than their rivals and should complete the job.

Complete the treble with Lech Poznan and I'm going with Mr Orange's reasoning here so check out his comment about Utrecht's weaknesses. First leg in Holland finished 0-0.

I've also picked out a both to score treble and some stats will be on a separate post. There is a members bet too and a double on the app which won yesterday at 11-5.

There are some short-priced favourites and I was tempted to put up a moneyback fivefold. I've decided not to place points it but if your bookie is doing the concession on these consider AC Milan, Athletic Bilbao, Fenerbahce, Midtyjlland and Zenit. Pays 5-2 at McBookie who will return the stake for one wrong.

My Super Single is on golf. Ace hasn't tipped anything on the Barracuda Championship which plays second fiddle to the Bridgestone Invitational but after reading Smylie Kaufman has had putting lessons from his pal Jordan Spieth I fancied him for the title.

He is 25-1 joint favourite at Paddy Power but 33-1 at firms such as bet365 and Ladbrokes.

For the single I'm on him to beat veterans Retief Goosen and Davis Love III in his first-round threeball. Kaufman on his game should beat two players who are still capable of going low but not consistently. He is 6-4 when I thought he'd be nearer evens.

Remember to check out Welovebetting for their latest tips and video chat. They also have a good selection of English anteposts picked out and I'll start putting my tips tonight or tomorrow. It's good to see we agree on a few teams.

Celtic couldn’t get a first half goal but I’m hoping today’s pick does the job inside 79:00. Trakai won their home leg 2-1 and now face a Shkendija side who aren’t playing games on their usual home turf, and will be without two starters after their dismissals last week. Trakai have scored against St Johnstone and Norrkoping away from home in the competition and fancy them to compete tonight.

Lech Poznan v FC Utrecht (Thursday)

There is not much left from the FC Utrecht side which had a very good season in the Eredivise. Haller, Amrabat, Barazite and Zivkovic are all gone. This week Wout Brama signed for CCM in Australia and their most important midfielder Ayoub is a doubt. Their new striker Dessers is not yet used to this level (also a doubt), just like midfielder Van der Streek who also came from a club from the infamous Jupiler League. Poznan were the better side in Utrecht last week and had the best chances. Utrecht tried and hold them off to keep a clean sheet. I can’t see Utrecht score in Poland and I think the home team win this 1-0 or 2-0. The odds for a home win are quite good, but I will take them on the asian handicap.

Really not sure now you raise the question!

    • uno 7 years ago

9/10 now, plenty early money for a non mainstream league and a game that’s still 3 days away. Won’t be worth backing by the time kick off comes around

Nasaf now 19/25 on Marathon, mad money coming for them and hardly a surprise at the odds quoted this morning

  7. uno 7 years ago

Nasaf are a generous price because Kokand are above them in the table but it means nothing

Nasaf have win 6 out of 7 meetings with Kokand including 3/3 at home, the only time they failed to beat them was a 2-2 draw in the 2nd leg of a cup tie after winning the first leg 4-1

Nasaf have won 19 straight games at home in all competitions – the last time they failed to win at home was 16 June 2016

    • elvis parsley 7 years ago

      This is great info uno.
Backed these a few times recently.
Why their away form is so bad I don’t know.
      Similar to Nigerian teams.

In the nigerian league there has been 320 games.
      237 home wins
      69 draws
      14 away wins
Best away form is win 2 draw 6 lost 8.
12 of 20 teams unbeaten at home.
11 of top 12 unbeaten at home.

Is this the craziest league out there ?
      Or the most corrupt ?

    • aceofspades 7 years ago

Fans attack players and refs if the home team loses. Google “Why is Nigeria the world’s toughest league in which to get an away win?” to read a good article about it, in the Guardian.

    • oluamyd 7 years ago

The Guardian article is from 2013 and that was 4 years ago. Since then, the Nigerian league has gone through major changes and media coverage/interest has gone up which is a huge deterrent. Although there is still the occasional fans trouble and dodgy calls from match officials, the standard of the league has generally improved compared to how it used to be. The reason most teams win at home nowadays is because almost all are owned by state governments meaning there is extra motivation to win as winning means salaries get paid and on time. When this happens – which is often – they also get bonuses. Losing coaches most times get the sack. When the Guardian article was written, you won’t find any bookie taking on Nigerian league matches but the reverse is the case at the moment despite all the improvement that is still obviously needed.

Didn’t post yesterday as didn’t have anything to tip…
In fact followed headsdownruna and mr orange with their Fortuna goals tip and had £30 on it at 6/5 so cheers lads?

Then had similar thoughts to Nate pesh after backing Legia and Celtic to win in the 56th min, got 21/20 and 7/5 for those and had £25 on it so about £120 up yesterday…

Wanted the racing post pull out yesterday but wasn’t in work until 5, and by that time some pr**k had taken the pullout!

    • elvis parsley 7 years ago

Well done with your winnings but do you really need to tell us how much you won ?

I’ve got a copy of the pull out, and guess what, I nicked it from my local betfred. Hehe

    • thebookie 7 years ago

Well yeah, I think I did as wanted to give credit to mr orange and headsdownruna so pipe down, sure it’s the same thing with units/points tally’s like?

    • elvis parsley 7 years ago

Would you have quoted your losses if they had lost ?.

Why not just say cheers lads followed your tips, thanks.

Quoting figures after they have won shows no class.

    • alex_mufc83 7 years ago

Honestly, I don’t think there’s any harm being done by stating the figures. Some of the main tipsters on here post their £profits£ and no one bats an eyelid. In my opinion, each to their own – if you want to post monetary figures then do, if not, stick to points.

The main thing is no bragging please, that’s the worst.

  13. HullShaker 7 years ago

    Morning gents,

Aside from the Euro qualifiers which I tend to avoid, it’s a bit of a poor card with not too much to go at – that’s not always a bad thing mind and it allows a much closer scrutiny of the limited field.

No such thing as a cert but might just have found a gem for the Night Owl…

ATLÉTICO PR VS. AVAÍ (2330 KO):

Avai are around 5/1 for the win here and though I don’t doubt they may well lose, only one team and 3 points seperate the two -such a big price leaves the backdoor wide open for value in other markets.

Avai have scored at least once in around 60% of their last 23 games; more notably, they have snook an away goal in 4 of their most recent 6 on the road…they have also scored in 100% of the last 5 H2H’s!

A look at PR’s home record adds further value to the arguement; of their most recent 11 games, they have won 2, drawn 3 and lost 6 conceding 3-2-0-2-0-3-1-0-0-1-1 goals in the respective process.

    One selection:

    AVAI TO SCORE…5/6
    ????

    Best of luck.

  19. HullShaker 7 years ago

My beloved Bury are back in action at Fortress Gigg on Satutday – there’s a lot of new faces and it may take some time for Clark’s new charges to gel – could be a decent outfit as long as we don’t continue the horrendous injury run of the last campaign.

My best early prediction is that we’ll be somewhere on the outskirts of the playoffs come the season-end…expect more of the same ‘open’ (?) football with us conceding and scoring plenty.

On that line, it’s obvious that James Vaughan’s Sunderland exit will be a big loss but in McGuire, Adjose and Beckford, we ought to still carry a significan threat up top.

The latter has looked sharp pre-season and despite never really fulfilling his early potential, he’ll certainly not be the first striker to ‘find his feet’ lower down the leagues…much like Vaughan himself.

Saturday’s opponents Walsall don’t look to hot heading into the season but certainly have some talent in the side – there was a sh*t load of goals in the last 3 H2H’s (3-3, 3-3, 2-3!) and I can see both teams getting in on the act again.

    Two selections worth considering:

    BTTS & OVER 2.5 MGS…13/10
    ???

    BECKFORD ATGS…7/5
    ?

Good luck and enjoy the new season ?

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

Have had a good study of Saturday’s card and it’s a minefield. Low stakes advised.

    Sunderland v Derby
    Friday 19:45

Sunderland have had an awful preparation for the new season, no one of any note through the door with the possible exception of the ageing Aiden McGeady and James Vaughan and reports of a sizeable faction from last season’s shambolic campaign wanting out. You can’t really blame them to be fair. Further to this no one seems particularly inspired by Simon Grayson’s arrival as manager and the omens aren’t good. Derby on the other hand had a strong end to last season under Gary Rowett and with a couple of decent additions as well as a full pre-season behind him I expect the ex-Brum boss to have his side ready and firing.

Last week I called lech Poznan correct as they secured a draw away, but arka Gdynia surprised many with getting a 3-2 win at home.

I think lech Poznan will be too strong at home and will qualify and I think that arka Gdynia will finally slip up as they are away and mitylland are the better team. Mitylland also have 2 away goals so a 1-0 or 2-1 will put them through.

Going for the double of lech Poznan and mitylland to qualify. Pays around 6/4.

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

All round it wasn’t a great set of results but that’s Europa League for you.

  42. liamw 7 years ago

No joy as Aberdeen fail to score. Depressing to have all Scottish teams out bar Celtic yet again.

Aberdeen to score exactly one goal @ 6/4 (1 point) LOST

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

If we want the Scottish teams to do better we’re going to have to start the season earlier.
Seemingly Celtic face four CL qualifiers next year so will start two weeks earlier than this time.
With World Cup finals that could be a nightmare.

Everton still not notched a single shot on goal after 60 mins…

    • oz777 7 years ago

If you’re an Everton fan, you should be worried.
I know it’s still pre-season, but of the two games I’ve seen of them, they lack pace and creativity.
I’m still trying to get my head round the Rooney signing.
He’s miles away from his best years.

    • alex_mufc83 7 years ago

No chance – check my username Sir

Glad we sold him tbf, he was 4 seasons out of date when he was with us

Just as I type Everton ping one in.. got them in an acca so need another goal

    • oz777 7 years ago

Ha ha. I know you’re NOT an Everton fan mate.

  47. davel 7 years ago

Both to score treble was miles away ?.

Have PSV just decided this competition’s not for them this year? Heavy favourites both legs and losing again…

    • oz777 7 years ago

I think there are a lot of ‘bigger’ teams who can’t be a*$ed with it, and just go with the flow.
If they get to the latter stages through default, that’s when they start to sit up and pay attention.
I’ve limited myself to just one bet on Europa Cup nights, until it gets down to who is actually interested.

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

The carrot of a CL place has changed a lot of teams’ thinking. Main problem at this stage is none of the big leagues have started.

  48. mr. orange 7 years ago

Wow, just saw the Utrecht result. Didn’t expect that.
I still think it was a good bet with all the transformations at Utrecht.

Hi Guys, Going to try an overnight treble and hope to wake up to some profit:- treble consists of San Paulo to win @ 4/9, Junior Barranquilla over 1.5 team goals @ 5/6 and Vasco da Gama double chance @ 8/15, giving me a treble price of just over 3/1. Good luck with any late bets to-night.

  60. craneguy 7 years ago

dc, theres yer braga man fonte scored again worth a watch again this season sir…………..

    • dc john boy 7 years ago

Just clocked that….think he may score a few more this season if gers a decent run. Was often decent odds to but might not last if he scores a few early in season

      U on any night owls?

  61. david h 7 years ago

I agree with hull with Avai being overpriced and while this pproce has ever so shortened its they can still be backed at 4/5 to score.

I’m having a big single on it as I don’t think their is too much between the sides.

Make a 2/1 double by adding Coritiba +1.5 on the Asian Handicap.
