Only Brighton and Manchester City have started their Premier League campaigns with two wins from two, tonight Crystal Palace and Arsenal each bid to join them.
Arsenal had to withstand a late charge by Nottingham Forest to notch their first win last week after looking quite comfortable at 2-0 up. But Mikel Arteta’s side showed plenty of resilience and that should stand them in good stead for the season ahead.
If they’re to push Man City all the way again this season they need to win at places like Selhurst Park. The Gunners put six past the Eagles in two games last season, four at the Emirates and two on the road but they did lose 3-0 here back in April 2022 – also on a Monday night.
They’ll also be wary of the fact that Palace remain unbeaten at home since Roy Hodgson returned to the hotseat, winning three and drawing two. But those successes have come against Leicester (W), Everton (D), West Ham (W) Bournemouth (W) and Forest (D).
That said, they gave a good account of themselves in most matches against teams in the top reaches of the league. They held a rampant Man City for 78 minutes before losing 1-0 to an Erling Haaland penalty, as well as drawing with Newcastle (0-0), Liverpool (0-0) and Manchester United (1-1) so it could be a night where Arteta’s men need to be patient.

Think these could be well worth looking at just now, looked at it yesterday and it was 2/1 , 19/10 now while bet365 go 7/4 and I can see prices coming in a bit, particularly the Rangers game which screams goals to me.
PSV look more dangerous than last year and Rangers look vulnerable in defence while Beale has declared his desire to go all out attack for this one, quite simply I am expecting a cracker at Ibrox with good potential for goals and cards.
Hibs games have been good to back for goals recently and I don’t fancy their chances in this one with a big gulf in class albeit they may grab a goal to help to the tally. Luzern were not great and scored at Easter road, as did Andorran minnows Inter Escalade and yesterdays opponents Raith. Villa look worth at least a few goals and we all know Emery takes European competition seriously.

Purcell has been playing some really good tennis over recent weeks & pushed Alcaraz in 3 close sets in Cincinnati where he also beat Wawrinka & Ruud. He’s had a few days off so should be rested & ready for this one. Cecchinato has lost his last 10/11 with 9 of those being straight sets. He has only played 3 hard court matches this year & 6 in his last 2. These two played each other in qualifying at the Aussie open earlier in the year, with Purcell winning 6-2 3-2 before Cecchinato retired. Cecchinato is in no form & very rarely wins matches away from clay. As long as there are no fatigue issues for Purcell he should be winning this one comfortably. The odds are too low to win in straight sets or the under games so this combo is the only play I would take.

A few props for me tonight in the Palace vs Arsenal game. I suspect Arsenal will have a decent amount of possession tonight with Palace looking to hit us on the counter similar to how Forest played last week. I think it will be a cagey opening with Palace happy for us to have the ball in our own half. So fancy Saliba & Rice to see plenty of touches. Going forward it is hard to imagine Saka won’t get some chances plus he will be on pens. Eze has been brilliant for Palace since Hodgson re-joined and now Zaha has left and Olise is injured most of Palace chances are likely to fall to him or Edouard.
