Widzew Lodz v Legia (7.45)

POLISH Ekstraklasa leaders Legia Warsaw travel to 12th-placed Widzew Lodz and should return with three points.

Widzew have won just six out of 13 at home while Legia have notched eight wins on the road.

Against opponent such as Widzew Lodz who sit in the bottom six Legia have collected an average of 2.6 points in 10 matches this season and I'm on them to win by more than one goal.

Recommended Bets

Legia win @ 1.62
Over 2.5 goals @ 2.0
2-0 Legia @ 6/1

    Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals
    3:30 ITV4

    Mumbai Indians

Ricky Ponting’s side always looked likely to qualify for the play offs from the moment that the skipper dropped to the bench. As a result, the team have enjoyed a better balance at the top of the order and although Dwayne Smith and Glenn Maxwell have alternated as Ponting’s replacement, Mumbai have been more powerful in the opening overs and have always looked destined for the final.

Smith is likely to retain his place as he was the only batsman to emerge with any credit from Tuesday’s Eliminator with Chennai. Mumbai will be confident of progressing past Rajasthan and taking revenge against the Super Kings but the margin of that 48 run defeat to CSK will cause some concerns in the squad.

Aside from Smith’s 68, the highest score was Kieron Pollard’s 24 but his dismissal sparked an alarming collapse that saw the final six wickets fall for just 17 runs. A significant improvement will be needed against a vastly underrated Royals side.

    Rajasthan Royals

The Royals sailed into the top four thanks to a perfect record of eight wins from eight home games during the group stages but Rahul Dravid’s men have looked vulnerable away from their Jaipur stadium.

Rajasthan were subsequently tested by the Sunrisers in Wednesday’s eliminator but as the run rate started to slip away, Brad Hodge took his side over the line with an outstanding 54 from just 29 balls. Hodge’s innings underlined the strength in depth that exists in this Royals team but many believe that Mumbai only need to dismiss the top three of Dravid, Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane and they have won the game.

Hodge is the leading run scorer in T20 competition around the world and is still in prolific form at 38 while at the other end of the age scale, this has been a breakthrough tournament for 18 year old Sanju Samson. Along with Stuart Binny, Rajasthan have a dangerous middle order and this game should be a lot closer than many are expecting.

    Venue and Conditions

Eden Gardens hosts its first game of the knockouts but in six matches during the group phase, this proved to be a relatively low scoring ground. The average first innings total was 144 but that figure is masked slightly by the fact that the Kolkata Knight Riders underperformed on this surface.

160 should be a minimum target for the team taking first knock on a day where heavy cloud cover is forecast along with the threat of rain which may even bring the spectre of Duckworth Lewis.

    Match Odds

When it comes to clichés I avoid them like the plague but Mumbai’s biggest enemy in this game is complacency. They have a far stronger side than the Royals both in batting and bowling and are rightful favourites here at 1.72.

Rajasthan have already beaten Mumbai in the group stages by a comfortable margin of 87 runs which will make their win odds of 2.36 tempting for some. The Royals will make it tough but Mumbai’s greater all round strength should seal a place in the final.

    Top Mumbai Batsman

Dwayne Smith’s knock of 68 on Tuesday sees him installed at 3.5 but favourite here is the more consistent Rohit Sharma at 3.05.

Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard lurks at 5.7 and after top scoring on two previous occasions in IPL 6 is one to consider. In fact, I’d go further and actually stake on a player who shines in games such as these and could prove to be the difference between the two teams.

    Top Rajasthan Batsman

Shane Watson has been a little subdued in recent games but the Aussie all-rounder remains favourite at 3.05. Brad Hodge’s odds have shortened to 3.6 following his winning knock in Delhi but the veteran comes in too late to provide a consistent return in this market.

The unreliable but occasionally brilliant Ajinkya Rahane would be my pick at around 3.75.

Back Mumbai to win at 1.72

Boca Juniors should not have beaten Corinthians in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Nothing in form or personnel suggested it was possible, not over two legs.

Even when Boca, battling ferociously, held out to win 1-0 in the Bombonera, it didn’t really seem plausible that they could go to Sao Paulo and guts their way through. Their domestic form has been atrocious. Before the Corinthians game they hadn’t won in the league since the opening day of the season, back at the beginning of February, when they scraped a 3-2 victory over Quilmes. Even after the weekend’s victory over Colon, they lie third bottom of the Torneo Final standings.

There’s no other way to put this: Boca aren’t very good. Corinthians are the defending champions.

And yet, in the Pacaembu, Boca produced a performance that wasn’t just about packing men behind the ball and trusting to grit and spirit (although there was plenty of that). They also scored a goal of mesmerising quality, Juan Roman Riquelme seizing the ball on the right wing and sending a ferocious dipping shot into the top corner. From any other player you’d doubt he meant it, but this was Riquelme: of course he meant it.

In that moment, all the clouds melted away: it was a goal that killed cynicism and relit an ongoing romance. No matter that his influence over the team is probably deleterious these days. No matter that his machinations led to the dismissal of the coach Julio Cesar Falcioni after the coach had made Boca a force again. No matter that he is a slow anachronism who is probably holding Boca back. He can still do things like that, when it matters.

It was after the Libertadores final defeat against Corinthians last year in that same stadium that Riquelme announced his retirement, apparently fed up of Falcioni’s negative tactics. You might not agree with him, but Riquelme’s riposte was irrefutable. This, he seemed to be saying last week, is what he can do with a coach who believes in him. And so he and Carlos Bianchi defy the passage of time and re-enact the glory days of the turn of the millennium when Boca won back to back Libertadores (Bianchi added a third in 2003, but Riquelme had left for Barcelona by then).

They couldn’t, surely, do it again, could they? (Boca are 8.8 to be champions). All logic says no, but this is Bianchi, this is Riquelme, and there is a magic about them that defies the naysayers and all reason.

Bianchi has always been able to organise a defence; Riquelme, even wheezing and dragging his aching body through games, can conjure occasional moments of brilliance. Sometimes that is enough. None of it makes much sense, but it’s all the more beautiful for that and with favoured teams tumbling, it is possible.

In the quarter-final Boca meet Newell’s, themselves romantics living out a bielsista dream under Gerardo Martino. Despite rocky recent form, they are top of the table – but they only stumbled through their last 16 tie, losing at home to Velez Sarsfield before winning in Liniers to go through on away goals.

They are far from consistent and that gives Boca an opportunity. They are free-scoring – Boca are anything but – which makes the fact that Over 2.5 Goals is as long as 2.64 intriguing, suggesting a perception that Boca will be able to impose their game on Martino’s side.

Yet Boca are as long as 2.72 to win, with Newell’s at 2.96. Boca’s form has been awful, but in the Bombonera, with momentum, with a sense of destiny, Boca surely should be shorter than that.

mr fixit pls u can help me with sure 4 draws from france, russia, switzerland, spain segunda league am planing on betting heavily this weekend, just 4 from any of this countries

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Precious, this is a site for proper punters not people who think there is such as thing as “four sure draws”. You’d probably be better doing the lottery.

Precious, picking any single draw out is a tricky task so 3 or 4 is pushing the limit. I do like doing the odd draw treble as it offers decent odds and in certain leagues where matches are often tight gives a chance of having some interest for 90 mins.

For todays matches I’d look towards France where the League 2 campaign comes to a conclusion. The important ends of the table are almost sorted, just the remaining relegation spot is open to the fight between Le mans and Laval, the former needing the win and hope Laval slip up as they trail by 2 points.

At the top Monaco have wrapped up the title and the only real point of interest is the fight for second between Guingamp and Nantes, with Guingamp trailing by a point.

This leads me to believe we have a chance of seeing alot of draws with the rest of the table having the comfort of going out to play there game. Now this can lead to some big, and perhaps surprise, wins.

    My list of draws from this league would be;

    Arles v Le Harve
    Clemont v Niort
    Tours v Monaco

    If you wanted to add a 4th and 5th in a perm then chance;

    Laval v Chateuroux
Guingamp v Dijon (based on the last 5 H2H being draws)

For my double of the day Im looking towards Scandanavia with Stromgodset (Norway, 6 BST) and the old fave Altach (Austria, 7.30 BST)

Both are very strong at home and Strom are coming off the back of hammering Start 6-0 away.

Altach have won their last 6 at home and come up against a side in which they have the Voodoo sign over, beating Kapfenberg at home in their last 5 meetings.

    The double pays around 2.45/1

I also fancy Grodig and Polten both at home in austria and may take a chance at around 15/2 with a single on relegated Ajaccio awat to Caen. They have won their last 2 away, albeit to teams in the bottom half of the table, but going back to my comment in my previous post, surprises happen with teams playing more relaxed football.

    Good luck all

Also a quick heads up for tomorrows super single to get the funds in for the big one,

Thun away to crisis club Sion in the Swiss super league.

Sion have lost there last 3 matches 4-0, 4-0 and 5-0 since sacking Gattuso as manager and losing hima as a player.

    Might be MrFs super single!!!
