Thursday, Plainmoor, 7.45, live Sky Sports 1

I WONDER how many neutrals support Cheltenham just because the name is so synonomous with racing.

I'm big fan of Cheltenham (the Festival) but have never really got into Cheltenham (the football team).

However, they are on the verge of a Wembley appearance after beating Torquay 2-0 in the first leg of the League Two play-off semi-final.

Cheltenham are a biggest 1-6 with William Hill to qualify ahead of their trip to Plainmoor and it's difficult to see past them.

However, Torquay are likely to give it a go so hopefully it will be an exciting game with a few goals. Torquay, of course, need at least two while Cheltenham could nick one on the counter as the home men pile forward.

Torquay are 4-1 with the likes of Ladbrokes and BetVictor to qualify and 11-10 with Ladbrokes to win on the night. The latter is more likely because I can seed the Gulls edging this but whether they can win by two or more is another question.

It was 2-2 when the sides met at Plainmoor earlier in the season and a draw on the night is 5-2 at Ladbrokes.

My big concern about Torquay is they head into this game on the back of a six-match winless run, drawing three and losing three.

However, they almost always score at home so the over 2.5 goals market looks on at 1-1 with Skybet and Paddy Power.

Torquay's last eight home wins have been by one goal and they are 3-1 to win by that margin tonight.

Cheltenham were underdogs going into the tie after losing seven of 10 games but three wins in a row has lifted spirits and the arrival of Ben Burgess on loan from Notts County has helped their cause.

He netted in the first leg and is 8-1 at Betfred and bet365 to score first, 13-5 with Paddy Power at any time.

Cheltenham have lost six of their last seven away so I'm taking Torquay to win but just fail to go through.

Put a fiver on benitez @ 16/1 to get villa job and tenner on martinez @ 4/1 to get liverpool job today. Martinez into 1/2 now, looking good after wigan chairman gave liverpool permission to speak to him.

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Joe, Martinez is on the shortlist but Liverpool speaking to Brendan Rodgers and some others too.

  7. craig alves 12 years ago

9 darter fae whitlock and still 3-1 down. hamilton to win 8-5 and taylor 8-3. no tips tonoght matt???

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Craig, haven’t heard from Matt this week so must be busy.

  8. David Paterson 12 years ago

Darryl Duffy First Scorer tonight for me. BETFRED DD/HH

    C’MON!!!

  9. Alex walker 12 years ago

Martinez keeps wigan up and now could be next liverpool manager! What a joke! Dont want him! Rafa back! The foundations are there to build upon!

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Alex, despite the news about Martinez, Coral make Villas-Boas 2-1 favourite. How do you fancy him?

  10. Alex walker 12 years ago

Hewould do a job. He done well at porto but never got a chance at chelsea!

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Alex, it seems Liverpool are unsure so we’ll see what happens. But Solskjaer looks like the man for Aston Villa.

  11. David Paterson 12 years ago

    Hi Paul, Need some advice.
I put an bet on the cheltenham game(In-play) it was burgess to score the 2nd goal, but he was almost immediately subbed after I put it on. Contacted Betfreds help chat thing but they just said it was alosing bet because he had the opportunity to score. Can you shed some light on this??

  12. David Paterson 12 years ago

Its ok they have cancelled the bet as a gesture of goodwill but its a one off.

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

David, technically it’s a loser, it’s a gamble you take placing these types of bets but I’m glad to see they’ve saw sense. It’s similar to you backing a guy to score at any time. He might not start then come on for five minutes and with some bookies that’s a loser. As they said you only need to be on the pitch to have a chance of scoring.

  13. Peter Brown 12 years ago

Typical my scorer scored 2nd! Lol aw well it’s been a good weekend! Looking forward to Saturdays football!!

  14. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

Yeah David that was good of them to refund. I once had a guy on to score at anytime £100 to be precise and he got injured and taken off in the second minute. I never got my money back. As Mr Fixit says a guy could come on with a couple of minutes to spare and with most bookies your anytime Goalscorer or last Goalscorer would be a losing bet. The bookies argue that he could still have had an opportunity to score. You could see where they are coming from because if he did score in the few minutes you would have wanted to be paid out but there is no doubt this is a huge advantage for the bookies.

Peter that’s unfortunate but if you had your bet on with Biylesports you would have had your money refunded. That’s it Mr Fixit I’m going to ask Boylesports to give me some free bets with all this publicity I’m giving them!

Luckily for me I missed the football tonight as I was sleeping after a nightshift so looking forward to football on Saturday.

  15. David Paterson 12 years ago

Aye fair enough can see both sides of the coin. would be nice to have some sort of safety net bet maybe something like if hes subbed within 10mins of you placing the bet then you can get a refund but as a bet and not cash and if after 10mins then its a loser.
Chris Guy I have £20 for the Champs League final considering Gomez first scorer?? any thoughts?

  16. David Paterson 12 years ago

well I might have more if my bet on the Ice hockey comes in. LA Kings -1.5 it did the other night. That would give me a total of £38.75 for champs league

    Everyones Input would be appreciated.

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

David, if I was to pick one player to score in the Champions League Final it would have to be Gomez but haven’t finalised my picks yet.

  17. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

Davidfor me it’s got to be Gomez if your backing a first scorer as I’ll be backing him but let’s see what Mr Fixit comes up with. He is generally available at 4/1

  18. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

5/1 is a tad short for Champions League final but that’s prob because of his goal scoring record

  19. joe knotts 12 years ago

Im gonna go a big punt on bayern to win and a fair punt -1. I just cant see past them especially as its in munich. Think i’ll have a punt on gomez 1st goal. Chris whats the site u talk about sometimes where they double and treble the odds if he gets 2 or 3?

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Joe, the double delight and hat-trick heaven is offered by Betfred.

  20. Sways bet of the day 12 years ago

Im going to back Gomez and robben think robben takes the penaltys he’s always good for a goal in big games aswell.them 3 late goals in Torquay game brung home the bacon last night :-)

  21. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

Joe there are quite a few offers on the game. Here is a link to the offers mate

    http://www.betrescue.com/2012/05/football-moneyback-specials-22/

To be honest with you Joe there are so many great money back specials. I fancy Bayern Munich strongly and for me Gomez is the man. Here are just a few of the great value money back specials on offer:

Tote and betfred double delight and hat trick heaven.

Boylesports first Goalscorer refunded if your player scores second goal.

Bluesq money back on the usual bets if Robben scores first goal.

Setantabet refund on the usual bets if the game goes into extra time

Sportingbet money back if Robben scores at anytime.

This pretty much tells you to stay away from the likes of William Hill and Ladbrokes, coral etc who offer nothing. Too many good offers to choose from

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Chris, as I’ve said already I’ll be on Gomez and I’m backing Bayern but all the tips will be up tomorrow morning. Always best to shop around for offers. All I can see from Ladbrokes in shop is a promise not to be beaten on price on correct score, first scorer and HT/FT compared with Hills, Coral, Betfred, bet365 and Paddy Power. This is in place for Champions League Final and Scottish Cup Final so make sure you get the best odds in shop.

  22. Alex walker 12 years ago

Fancy 100 pound double on bayern and w ham -1. 11to5 and 3to1. A nice end of season lift!

  23. Mr Chris Guy 12 years ago

Yeah I know Paul seen that mate. Unsure what to do for hearts hibs game. I know you have still to write it up Paul but I fancy an unders bet and perhaps an afters for time if first goal

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Chris, the Scottish Cup FInal is a tricky one. Go with form and it’s Hearts all the way but anything goes in finals and anything goes in derbies so it’s about who turns up on the day. The hype’s been incredible and I feel the weight of 110 years without lifting the cup may be too heavy on the shoulders of Hibs. I’ll be on Hearts (cautiously) but can see it being 0-0 at half-time as the sides get to grips with each other. Likely to be fiercely fought and there should be a few cards. If Beattie doesn’t start Skacel’s the man for first scorer if you’re going for Hearts.

  24. craig alves 12 years ago

skacel 2-1 or 3-1 scorecast for me, hibs are pash this season, just cant see them winning it.
can see similar scoreline in champ league
also coral still giving 10/11 on fc cluj to win with betvictor as low as 9/20.
one single for me today hammersby, got 21/20 last night now they’re 5/6. gd luck all

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Craig, Hibs shouldn’t win but some people believe they’re fated to do so. We’ll see.

  25. Sways bet of the day 12 years ago

I really think that hearts will lift the cup tommorow pat fenlons hibs aren’t a great side a low scoring win for hearts I think.mu big bet of tommorow will best west ham match over 2.5 goals and bayern to win.

  26. Alex walker 12 years ago

Wish you were putting up your piece today Mr F. Should be a cracker of a day 2morrow! But a long one if your a hibs or hearts fan!

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Alex, my main piece in the Daily Record tomorrow will be on the cup final so I’ll probably post words similar to that but can’t put them up until tomorrow first thing. It would be an easy job if I could tip Hearts in the paper and then Hibs on the site.

  27. Sways bet of the day 12 years ago

    Wee treble for tonight

Lustenau – hartberg over 2.5 goals

    Shamrock rovers -win

    Troyes-win

    • Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Busy with all the Saturday work and newsletter so might try that one later. Noticed the prices on the Irish both to score are big so will look at the stats later and see if I can pick out a couple of winners.

  28. joe knotts 12 years ago
