TUESDAY'S results showed just how to tough it is to predict Championship games these days.

Bottom can beat top and even leaders Cardiff are struggling, picking up five points from five games.

So the fact Wednesday night’s FA Cup quarter-final replay features league rivals Blackburn and Millwall doesn't make it any easier.

Millwall had the better of a drab first tie but had to settle for a 0-0 draw due to the lack of a cutting edge. Another no scorer pays 19-2 at BetVictor.

Hopefully it will be slightly better tonight with the carrot of a Wembley semi-final against Wigan after big guns Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City were drawn in the other half.

With home advantage Rovers are favourites at 23-20 with Bet365 to win the tie inside 90 minutes and the Lions are as big as 14-5 at boylesports.

Blackburn were pretty defensive at the New Den with top scorer Jordan Rhodes being starved of service but they should be more attacking at home and I fancy them to edge a win against a side who have failed to score in the last three matches.

Equally Rovers have netted in just one of their last seven so first goal could be the winner.

The difference could be Scotland striker Jordan Rhodes who usually only needs one chance to score. He is 7-2 (various) to net first and 6-5 with Paddy Power at anytime.

But safest bet of all could be under 2.5 goals at 3-4 with BetVictor.

And if you can see a low-scoring draw consider both sides at 12-1 with BetVictor to win penalties.

Recommendations

Rhodes to score first
(7-2, various)

Under 2.5 goals
(3-4, BetVictor)

I agree with with you Mr F about Rhodes the first game was a poor game, but I just favour Blackburn, so my bet is

    Rhodes anytime wincast 5/2

  2. Mr H 11 years ago

Rhodes is struggling for form with 1 goal in his last 8 which might be due too missing his usual partner in crime Kazim Richards, i see this as a game best left alone

Mr H, I’m not confident about the result and I hope that came across. Wouldn’t surprise me if it went to pens but Rhodes is capable of producing a moment of magic. Both sides really struggling for goals at the moment.

I watched the first tie on Sunday and it was an accurate representation of two sides which are really struggling.

The first encounter produced a goalless draw which wasn’t a huge surprise considering both teams inability to score in their recent fixtures. Blackburn have failed to find the net in 5 of their last 6 games, while Millwall have only scored three goals in 10.

I agree that it’ll most likely finish under 2.5 goals.

Considering the lack of creativity and firepower from both sides, I’m tempted by Coral’s 40/1 for Danny Shittu to score first or 16/1 to score anytime. He scored a header from a set piece against Aston Villa in the 3rd round and went as close as anyone to breaking the deadlock in the first tie with a few surprisingly decent efforts on goal including a 45 yard screamer which the Blackburn keeper just managed to push over the bar.

Mr F I think Blackburn will be too good at home for Millwall and Jordan Rhodes is defo due a goal so Blackburn 1-0 JR 22/1 and 2-0 JR 28/1 look good to me

    Blackburn win JR anytime 7/2

Muzza, I hope he scores but you don’t get one just because you’re due one.

    • Guido 11 years ago

Muzza..going by that theory…what was the odds on the ref scoring first with a deflection of his arse? 69/1?

Cheers, I rarely bet on the Goalscorers market but for some unknown reason, I have a knack for getting these sort of bets right when I have a gut feeling.

I support Millwall and the last time I placed a bet on FGS was when one of centre halfs scored at Wembley to clinch Promotion to the Championship. If I recall correctly that was at 28/1 and the return on that made the day all the sweeter

  11. Dean 11 years ago

Cheers Muzza, just hoping Millwall can hang on and it’ll be a nice day out to Wembley

  12. MUZZA 11 years ago

Not sure the new Wembley is ready for Millwall yet hahahahaha

  13. MUZZA 11 years ago

  14. Dean 11 years ago

I believe the last time Millwall played at the old Wembley was in the Auto Windscreens Final against the opposition which the winner of this tie will play against, Wigan.

Wigan played won 1-0 and scored in the 93rd minute!

Muzza, with built like a brick shithouse Shittu in the team anything is possible mate. The bloke is a ‘wall legend. Committed, Wears his heart on his sleeve and is proud to where the shirt. (Trotter take note)

  26. Chris Guy 11 years ago

Just looking at the Motherwell game on Friday. Michael Higdon first goal at 11/2 with Coral is a great price. He is as short as 7/2 with Hills and Paddy Power.

  27. Badham 11 years ago

Cheers Chris mate. Lucky one to be fair.
