SCOTTISH punters are the bravest in mainland Britain when it comes to placing their bets according to a survey commissioned by Ladbrokes.
The bookies quizzed 140,000 football fans all over the UK and results revealed a huge 38% of Scots, more than anywhere else in the country, backed themselves as the believer, a character who loves to support an underdog and take a punt at long odds hoping for the biggest reward. Must have all been Jambos who backed their side yesterday!
However, the research also showed while Scotland's bettors back themselves to turn a small outlay into a big windfall more than anyone else, this in turn leaves them as the least likely to trust the science and the facts behind the odds with only 15% of Scots surveyed associating themselves as betting professors.
The survey commissioned by Ladbrokes ahead of the launch of its new advertising campaign also revealed football bettors in London are the most analytical and instinctive but lack confidence and optimism once they've placed their bets leaving their fate in the hands of the football gods.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “The survey reveals Scots really are the bravest when it comes to their football bets at least. More football fans in Scotland were happy to support a plucky outsider than anywhere else in the country meaning when their bets do pay off they always have the last laugh.”

Characteristic traits
Believer – Loves the underdog and long odds.
Gut Truster – Believes some things don't always run to form. Gets a feeling and a sixth sense which often serves them well.
Mr Brightside – A glass half-full type. Always hopeful but never lets a losing bet get them down.
Professor – Encyclopedic knowledge, mathematician's mind. Knows the name of every left back in La Liga. Nerdy, but cool.
Is northern Ireland not part of Britain
Big Shifty, of course it is.
I don’t see any results for it mr f
big shifty, it’s not my survey – I’m just putting up the results.
Ha no probs mr f but a can tell you the northern irish love their punts on the big outsider as well they just never seem to be included in things like this. There are plenty of Ladbroke shops over here tho.
big shifty, I’ll let them you know you feel left out. Goodnight all.
Keep up the great work you do on this site mr f goodnight.
Technically the ‘United Kingdom’ is Great Britain AND Northern Ireland. So ‘Great Britain’ is the Island of England, Scotland and Wales. Ireland, North or South is a separate Island so it isn’t part of Britain.
PODTHEROD stop being smart, not a geographical debate.
Professor Paul :)
Hi Mr Fixit, long time ago Ladbrokes restricted me to £10 winnings on any bet, so I closed my account. Obviously Ladbrokes ARE NOT Braveheart bookies!!!!!
James C, it’s a compliment. You must have been taking them to the cleaners.
Byrantdemolish: Geographical or not I am correct in what I said so what was the point of your post?
