WE'RE still a week away from the start of the English leagues so again this line has to focus on Scotland.

There are five SPL games this weekend and 15 ties in the League Cup.

Punters will hoping for more than the nine goals produced by top-flight teams last week even if there is one game fewer.

Last week's games give us a quick taster and the suggestions are that sides such as Hibs, St Johnstone and Dunfermline could struggle through lack of a cutting edge.

The same couldn't be said for Motherwell who looked superb as they hammered Inverness 3-0 at home. The worry for Stuart McCall is how does he hold on to his star men such as Jamie Murphy.

Well travel to a Kilmarnock side who picked up a useful score draw at Dundee United and this match could throw up another one. Both teams to score pays a best 10-11 with William Hill.

Talking of Dundee United, they still have the services of £2million-rated David Goodwillie but probably not for long. If he is to leave the striker will want to go out with a bang at Hearts.

The Jambos have drawn both their games 1-1 – at Rangers and Paksi – so another score draw is possible. Both teams to score pays 10-11 with Betfred and William Hill.

Last week's Challenge Cup clashes didn't throw up too many surprises and you have much the same sides involved in the League Cup this weekend.

Biggest win came from Morton who hit eight past sorry Stranraer away from home. The Greenock men are back on their travels at Paul Hartley's Alloa and although they should win they'll get a much tougher test from a side rebuilt by the ex-Scotland midfielder. Both teams to score pays 8-11 with bet365 and Skybet.

Elgin produced the biggest shock last week with victory at Ross County and the Third Division side  face another tough test at East Fife. The Fifers blasted in six at Montrose so this is one where you'd fancy both teams to score. Bet365 and Skybet again go 8-11.

There could be another cracking encounter at Forfar where Third Division title favourites Peterhead are the visitors. Peterhead's stellar signing Rory McAllister duly scored on his debut in a 2-2 draw with Brechin while Forfar were also involved in a score draw at home to Buckie. Both teams to score pays 8-11 at bet365.
