Atletico Mineiro v Olimpia, Thursday, 1.50am

IT'S deja vu for Brazil big guns Atletico Mineiro as they start the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final trailing Olimpia 2-0 after a horror show in Paraguay.

Atletico were also 2-0 down to Newell's Old Boys in the semi-finals before scrambling a 2-0 win then going through on penalties.

They are famously as bad on the road as they are brilliant at home – 53 matches unbeaten – and a side boasting the likes of Jo, Bernard, Ronaldinho and Diego Tristan have the strength to launch a comeback.

Olimpia have lost two of their last three away from home in this tournament but it they score Atletico will need four to qualify so the Paraguayans must be favoured to go through and are 2-5 to win the trophy.

I wouldn't write off Atletico, a best 11-4 at Paddy Power, but it's asking a lot to win by three. They look fairly certain to win on the night at 4-9 with William Hill though.

Atletico are boosted by the return of star midfielder Bernard, wanted by several Premier League big guns, and I'm taking a chance on him to score when prices are available.

With Atletico needing at least two goals over 2.5 at 4-6 with Titanbet is worth a look.

I´m going to bet on corners here. The brazilians will press hard and i can see alot of corners due to the strong offensive line up of Ronaldinho, Bernard, Jo and Diego Tardelli. But doing a preview of this match this is my pov.

Atlético Mineiro faces Club Olimpia in the second leg of the Libertadores cup. For this game Atlético isn´t going to play at the Independência Stadium and are going to move to the Mineirão. The move is explained for a question of capacity since the Mineirão has 58.000 capacity if you compare to the 20.000 of the Independência stadium. Even so Atlético were more used to the Independência stadium.
About the game, Atlético will be without their two full backs (Richarlyson and Marcos Rocha) due to the first leg but will welcome Bernard back.
Atlético will probably field: Victor; Michel, Réver, Leonardo Silva e Júnior César; Pierre e Josué; Ronaldinho, Bernard, Diego Tardelli e Jô.
Atlético has better players in technical terms and has proven they can erase a deficit in the previous semi´s against Newell´s. Another motivational factor is that Atlético never won the Libertadores, so they will be well up for it.
Olimpia is the surprise of the competition but they deserve their place in the final. You just have to remember they eliminated Fluminense. They don´t have big names or star players but they have a very good defence, very quick player for the counter and they are always looking for the defensive errors from the opponents. They played very well in the first leg and deserved their result. They just lost once in this competitions, 3-1 against Newell´s.
Probable line up is: Martín Silva; Manzur, Miranda e Candia; Alejandro Silva, Giménez, Aranda, Pittoni e Benítez; Salgueiro e Bareiro.

I think we are going to have a worthy final. Atlético plays their first final in 105 years of existance so the pressure will be in an all time high. Players like Ronaldinho, Bernard, Jo and Diego Tardelli will lead the charge. Olimpia has already won the competition in 1979,1990 and 2002. They won´t play attack. They will leave the game iniciative for Atlético and will counter, control time and try to avoid taking an early goal.

I will go for corners like i said at start, over +2,5 and probably Btts, havent decided yet.

Sly, should be a cracker really. I’m tempted to take Atletico to win the trophy but it’s a tough ask. Pity the game is so late.

Brazilian fa postponed both atletico games in their league for this. No chance the English fa would do something like that!

Yep MrF. Will probably watch the usa match but dunno if i can hold till this game.

  9. Greg Browning 11 years ago

Yeah, won’t be staying up to watch, past my bedtime sadly, haha!

Thought long and hard about this match and considered doing what I did on the last round, Atheltico to win and Athletico to score over 1.5 goals!

Both are a bit too short though!

Olimpia are a good side so I wouldn’t expect Athletico to cruise this although I do expected them to win! 2-3 match goals pays 1/1 and I think it could be simalir to their semi final home match!

AM know they need to score 2 and and I’m hoping they do, can’t see Olimpia scoring more than 1 while I don’t see AM scoring 3!

2-3 match goals it or for me!

Greg there are two more good games for +2,5ft bets that are São Paulo vs Internacional and Millionários vs Fc Porto. The problem is that i would have to drug the missus to follow them lol. Not keen on going to work tomorrow with 2 or 3 hours of sleep either. But from my researches i would go for +2.5 in the matches i mentioned.

  11. Greg Browning 11 years ago

Haha they look good sly, Forlan has been in good form for Internacional while Sau Paulo have been terrible! I’m like you mate, want a decent nights sleep, got the Europa league qaulifer second leg tomorrow night so it could be a late one, haha!

Rosénborg are 10/11 to win tomorrow and I still fancy them to do that ( obviously I hope they don’t) :) Thinking of putting a nice little insurance bet on them to win, least that way If we get beat I get something back, a small price to pay for getting through to the next round!

  12. Sly 11 years ago

Rofl i bet it will be a long night. I love the european ties. Been going to them for more than 15 years and this year Sporting will not provide any european entertainment unfortunately. I don´t really know what to expect from your tie. The first leg was a big surprise. Will check the overall internet opinion about it.

Thanks to newcomers Robbo & Reidyq for their well reasoned winning tips. ;)

And usual shout out to my homeboys Sly & Greg! ;)

    Top tip for tonight.

    São Paulo v Inter

    Inter DNB – 2.5 or Double chance 1.75 (bet365)

São Paulo without a win in 9, lost 6 in a row.

Dunga’s Inter are undefeated in 7, 4 wins out of last 5.

Argentina Scocco just signed from Newells to partner Forlan (4 goals in last 5).

Inter have scored 11 in 5. SP have let in 14 in 6.

All points towards away win which is available at a massive 3.4. DNB is 2.6 or double chance 1.75. All bet365.

Despite all the stats pointing to easy Inter winI’m a little wary as São Paulo are at home and have some good players (finished 4th last year) so would be expected to turn things around soon.

DNB or Double chance best options at great value.
