REAL MADRID have no time to dwell on a first competitive defeat since September as they face a Copa del Rey showdown with bitter rivals Atletico Madrid on Wednesday (8pm).

It's a match that could see Fernando Torres's return but for Real they'll be disappointed they're not in a position to equal then break a world record for consecutive wins.

Real had won 22 out of 22 matches since suffering their last loss – which coincidentally came against Atletico in the league on September 13 – but that run came to an end on Sunday night when they were beaten 2-1 at Valencia.

That left Real two wins short of matching the world record of 24 consecutive victories set by Brazilian side Coritiba and came five days after Carlo Ancelotti's side had lost 4-2 to AC Milan in a friendly.

It has been a disappointing week for the European champions but they need to refocus with a tough trip to the Vicente Calderon in the first leg of the Copa del Rey last 16.

Former Atletico fan Torres was presented in front of 45,000 fans on Sunday after rejoining the club on loan from AC Milan and the 30-year-old striker, having not been involved in Saturday's league win over Levante, could feature against the cup holders.

Torres could start at the Vicente Calderon and the Inter Milan loan man is 15-2 at boylesports to hit the opener and 9-4 at Paddy Power to net.

He will need to go some to outshine Cristiano Ronaldo who netted first in the 2-1 defeat at Valencia and is 7-2 at McBookie to break the derby deadlock and 1-1 at Ladbrokes just to score.

Real are 23-20 favourites at Betfred but with it being a first leg a draw at 5-2 with McBookie could be best bet. Holders Atletico are 13-5 at McBookie and Paddy Power and they haven't lost in five over 90 minutes to their rivals.

    ATLETICO MADRID VS REAL MADRID

Sergio Ramos is about to put pen to paper to extend his contract with Real Madrid and will reportedly be the most expensive defender in the world. He’ll be out to show the club and fans that he’s worth every penny. He’s scored 2 goals in his last 4 games both of which were first goalscorer.

    RECOMMENDED BETS

SERGIO RAMOS FIRST GOALSCORER @ 20/1 (VARIOUS)

SERGIO RAMOS ANYTIME GOALSCORER @ 13/2 (CORAL AND BETVICTOR)

    Good luck everyone

I think ramos might be rested for this match since he was rushed back from injury to play in the Valencia match.

Ronaldo has a slight knee injury apparently. May get on at some point. Really must wait for team news before doing these goalscorer bets. Lesson learned. Navas in goal.

    Torres starts for Atletico.

With Ronsldi starting on the bench it’s good for those who backed Sergio Ramos as he will now be on the penalties and free kicks.
