NOTE: Motherwell game off – alternative Super Single St Johnstone, 2pts at 6-4

MY top tips will be published nearer midnight but I've decided to post the Super Single early because I've seen the price dropping.

As has been hinted several times throughout the week my Saturday selection is Motherwell at home to Inverness in the Scottish Premiership. And remember this is a 12.45pm kick-off and live on Sky Sports 1.

They were my choice last Sunday and Stuart McCall's men duly have rammed in five at Partick Thistle then thumped St Johnstone 4-0 on New Year's Day to make it five wins in a row since humiliating losses to Celtic (5-0 at home) and Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup.

It's been some turnaround for the Fir Parkers and their improvement mirrors the loss in form suffered by Dundee United.

A couple of weeks ago it looked like Inverness and the Arabs would battle for second spot but now Well and Aberdeen are the favourites.

Well have stuck out like a sore thumb since weekend odds were revealed but unfortunately I wasn't the only one to recognise the value in a best price of 13-10 with bet365 and that was cut in Thursday.

For the Super Single I quote Ladbrokes odds and as I write they are 6-5 and that's in line with most firms.

It's still worth taking against an outfit who have lost three out of four and drawn the other at Partick Thistle.

Inverness, who will be missing a few players, started OK under John Hughes but Sunday's defeat at home to Ross County will have rocked fans and already he's having to justify his decisions.

I'm not sure what's changed for Well – apart from a couple of kicks up the backside – but James McFadden has returned to form with his first league goals of the season against Thistle then Saints after coming off the bench.

When Faddy's on his game Well tend to win and he is 3-1 at Skybet to net at anytime. John Sutton is 6-1 at McBookie to break the deadlock and he's got to be the first choice in that market.

Having won their last by four goals Well have to be considered minus one at 3-1 with Skybet.

I've been rating the Super Singles on a scale of 1-5 and this is a four-pointer. This year's record is one out of two for a profit of £1 to £10 unit stakes. If using the points system the profit would be £62.

4pts Super Single

Greg here is a reason, Motherwell are renowned for winning games they shouldn’t ( helicopter Sunday) and losing games they should win, a la Albion Rovers, that said i was on them sharp yesterday before the price went, haven’t had time to go through the posts yet but there is a precautionary pitch inspection at 8 am for this game, don’t know if that has been mentioned yet…

Davie-S, it’s not been mentioned but I’d imagine the majority of games in Scotland will need pitch inspections.

oor man, Had a look at the games you posted the other day. Like the look of Valladolid feel they could nick it. Usually put 2 singles on my own and Mr F’s but put Motherwell on 2 days ago so have a spot left just trying to figure out the other single. Might split the stake in half and put another 2 singles on. Anyway cheers for the heads up!

There’s always going to be games they should win and games they shouldn’t but im basing it on both clubs current form and having watched well dismantle my team on the 1st, if they play anywhere near that they’ll beat an Inverness team who are going through a real tough patch, don’t see them ending that tomorrow (if it goes ahead)

Don’t usually back for us or against us( obviously the occasions I have backed against us we won) our away record is woeful but there won’t be much better opportunities to win away than at county! They got a huge result in the highland derby though! It’s a tough one to call!

A good choice for the SS. On it as usual, and would just like to add, that I’m in favour of the new points system.

Just looking at tomorrows games, and apart from the FA Cup, their’s not a great deal to go at. I’m limiting my bets on the cup to the goals market.

I was looking at the Conference games and one that stands out is Alfreton away at Barnet. Alfreton seem over priced @ 14/5 when you consider current form. Alfreton have won their last five games, whilst Barnet have lost their last three. In fact Alfreton have won nine of their last twelve. Barnet have won three of their last seven though, BUT, they’ve been against the bottom two teams (Dartford twice and Hyde once) No real test. In fact Barnet haven’t had a decent win since they beat Kidderminster in early November.

    Alfreton to win @ 14/5 Bet365
Alfreton BTTS and win @ 11/2 Coral
    Alfreton to win 2-1 @ 12/1 Bet365

Proceed with caution though. There could be a reason for these seemingly inflated prices, but I haven’t found one as yet.

Kidderminster lost 6-0 away to luton in there last game

Kidderminster last 8 matches won 3 lost 5

Peterborough last 10 matches won 4 draw 1 lost 5

Peterborough have conceded 12 goals in 5 games and scored 7

Kidderminster have conceded 14 goals in 5 games and scored 4

Peterborough have had a poor run of games lately losing 3 league games in a row however won there round 2 fa cup game 5-0 at home to tranmere and i think they will be too good for lower opposition. Posh will be looking to bounce back from 3 consecutive losses and it could be a tough game at kidderminster as they have lost just 2 games at home all season, but i think posh will be too good for lower opposition

    Tip

    Peterborough to beat Kidderminster

    Currently 19/20 (william hill)

Also a bet i would advise tommorow 3pm is Nadal v Monfils in the qatar open final

Nadal had dropped 2 sets in the tournament, monfils has dropped 0 sets on his way to the final

Nadal will be too strong for Monfils but as hes yet to drop a set i can see him getting one against Nadal

Nadal 2-1 Monfils currently 10/3 (ladbrokes)

    Good Luck!

Just read through Mr F’s FA cup team news and there are some crucial team news ahead of tomorrows fixtures!

    Newcastle v Cardiff

Newcastle are without several key players through injury and suspension and Cardiff have just appointed a new manager in Ole Gunner Soljaer.

Cardiff look good value @ 9/2

    Bolton v Blackpool

Bolton are up against a Blackpool side who are without a win in 7 and many of their players have returned to their parent clubs. The FA cup looks the least of Blackpool’s priority’s given their form in the league.

    Bolton @ 23/20

    Stoke v Leicester

This has the potential for an upset here. Stoke are without several players through suspension and injury (see FA cup team news thread). Leicester are in good form with 4 wins on the trot and have already proven their worth in cup games, reaching the quarter finals in the Capital One cup.

    Leicester @ 14/5

    Kidderminster v Peterborough

This one is a tough one to call but for some reason I believe League 1 side Peterborough have enough about them to go out and beat Conference side Kidderminster. They will be boosted by the return of Lee Tomlin their 2nd top scorer with 9 goals this season. Put Tomlin together with top goal scorer Britt Assombalonga who has 16 goals so far with 4 coming from FA cup games.

    Peterborough @ 10/11

By all means, it is the FA cup after all and anything can happen!

    Fourfold pays 85/1

  48. Avatar of Ad
    Ad 11 years ago

Alfreton look great value for a team who have won their last 5 against a team who have lost 4 of their last 5. Alfreton also beat Barnet 3-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season and @ 5/2 are surely worth a few quid.

adding luton and Motherwell makes up a tidy treble that pays around 11/1

Really tough card tomorrow, with very little standing out! Will be small stakes for me! Here’s my thoughts!

Dumbarton v Morton ( if on)

I mentioned earlier today that Morton under new boss Shields has made a a number of signings, one being David Robertson from St
Johnstone! By all accounts they were unlucky to lose against Hamilton and it’s just a matter of time before they get a win! Shields is a good manager and will still feel he can keep them up! Tomorrow is an ideal opportunity and they are a great price double chance

    Back Morton double chance 3/4
Back Morton 23/10 ( small stakes)
Back over 1.5 Morton teams goals 6/4 ( small)

    Bolton v Blackpool

Despite picking up just one point from their last two matches freedman will be pleased they have started scoring again, it’ll be defending that will give cause for concern having lost 5 at Leicester and 2 against a rejuvenated Middlesbrough! They welcome a Blackpool side who are on a horrible run, they have lost 6 of their last 7, have picked up just one point and scored just three goals! There have certainly been goals between these two in previous meetings and maybe the cup will will see Blackpool’s misfiring strikers back on the scoresheet! Bolton have only lost one of their last 9 at home ( a lot of draws ) but there’s been enough about them in matches against tough opposition to suggest they will have the beating of a struggling Blackpool side!

    Back Bolton 11/10
Bolton over 1.5 teams goals 11/10

    Exeter v Mansfield

It’s only a matter of time before Exeter fans see their team win at home, they have lost 4 and drawn one of their last 5 and come into this off the back of a great Derby win at Torquay! Mansfield have improved recently but going to side with the home team!

Back Exeter 5/4 ( small stakes)

Avast there mateys, preparing the cannons, going to be firing another line on the btts/win coupon with my old sea friend Coral.

Tough to find predictions that look good this week, hard enough picking winners let alone goals and winners, but here’s the one’s I’m considering

    Orient (away to Yeovil)
    Coventry (away to Barnsley)

Both similar in that these two teams often feature in high scoring matches and both arrrrre away to struggling championship sides. Not a given by any means, but the booty on offer at 4/1 each be very tempting indeed.

    Next two options

St Johnstone (away to Ross County) 15/4
    Halifax (away to Tamworth) 17/5

Both these teams arrrrrre favourites, if not massively, and again both have been in some high scoring encounters of late.

The other two options from the crows nest involve Man City away to Blackburn and Valencia at home to Levante. Man City ought to win, but still haven’t stoppped leaking goals. The odds on this one arrrrre shorter than the others at 9/5. Meanwhile Valencia’s home matches average over 3 goals and I fancy them to edge this match, 23/10 on this one.

Anyone wanting to bet I advise small stakes and make use of the trixies/yankees/canadians.

After wolves getting pumped put a single on o ‘Higgins. Put the winnings on Benfica and Porto at home on the cup but won’t mention my stake.

    Good luck all tomorrow

I still fancy Motherwell to win but one note of caution…Mr F you suggest in your article that you’re not entirely sure where the spark has come from for Well’s 5 game winning streak and it is indeed many variables such as McCall, Faddy, Ainsworth a bit of luck etc.. but also the addition of emergency loan Keeper Dan Twardzic from Dundee. We hastily recruited him to cover a GK crisis … 5 games ago…. He has been sensational and yes started in nets in every one of the 5 wins. Clearly we have been on fire at the other end however with Dan away back to Dundee we will have Gunnar Neilsen back from injury between the sticks.Dan was surprisingly good as he had never started a senior game at any level until his Motherwell debut at the start of the run, he was small but oozed confidence that seemed to spread to the defense, all I’m saying is the same can’t be said for bug Gunnar…!

Mr w, just back from walking the dug and heading out again. I’ll have a look at an alternative when I get back but Bolton and West Brom are possible alternatives.

I’m sticking with GRIMSBY at 4/1 in places to upset Hudd’field. The players play in the Conference but are professionals.
