HAPPY New Year to one and all and thanks for all the complimentary comments put up about the site in the last couple of days.
The quality of the tips is what counts most but in 2014 changes will be made as we try to cope with the huge increases in traffic. I've just seen December's figures and they are 400 per cent up from last December – and that was 300 per cent up from December 2012.
One thing we're planning is a survey to find out what you like about the site, what you don't like and what changes you'd like to see.
Meanwhile, what I'd like is a winning start to the year, especially with the Super Single. I put up a shortlist earlier in the week and it featured Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Derby, Leeds, Watford, Brentford, Wolves, Scunthorpe and Aberdeen.
There have been a lot of comments about these sides and mostly positive. Sunderland are the ones there seem most doubts about with Aston Villa fans saying they'll be a different side if Ron Vlaar and Christian Benteke.
Team news is vital on New Year's Day so that's one to look out for. Of the rest Aberdeen are reckoned to be a decent double chance at Dundee Utd and I'd go along with that.
So the Super Single could have come from any of the others and in the end I've chosen Palace ahead of Newcastle and Derby.
Palace's revival under Tony Pulis has been spectacular – and bad news for those who lumped on them to be relegated. They were all but down under Ian Holloway but three wins in five games hauled them out of the drop zone and they were impressive in defeat at Man City on Saturday.
Pulis's men but up the best fight of any side at the Etihad this season and the fact City keeper Joe Hart was man of the match says it all.
Palace have beaten Aston Villa, Cardiff and West Ham recently – all teams close to them in the league – and defeat over Norwich will draw them level with the Canaries so it's a huge game.
Pulis has never been relegated in 21 years as a manager and knows how to get the job done in these type of matches and of course Norwich's away record is poor – they've won twice but netted just six goals in nine outings and haven't won on their last 13 visits to Selhurst Park
It won't be pretty but Palace can edge it and are 7-5 at Ladbrokes to pick up the points.
I aim to produce monthly stats on the Super Singles and I'm also giving it a points rating in 2014. Five points being the most confident right down to one point. Working out a stake is easy if you have a staking plan and I'd advise everyone to develop one and try to start with at least 100 points.
So if you're pot is 100 points you want to put one-fiftieth on Palace (2pts). If you're using a martingdale system or whatever carry on with that.
And please if you don't fancy Palace don't take them. Consider Newcastle or Derby instead.
2pt Super Single
Crystal Palace (3pm)
(7-5, Ladbrokes)
The super single should have been Newcastle.I can’t put a large stake on crastal palace
fatiamu, again I like Newcastle and if that’s how you feel you shouldn’t take Palace. I hope they both win.
I was expecting Leeds to be the Super Single at 13/10…why didnt you choose them Mr F?
Tanna, Leeds were on the shortlist but I need to pick only one. No real reason why it wasn’t Leeds although Rhodes is in good form for Blackburn and is always likely to score.
That’s your choice then Fatiamu, Mr F only suggests and regardless of what he suggests it is never a certainty anyway. He did mention not to go with it if you don’t fancy it.
Not being funny but he didn’t choose Leeds as he obviously didn’t fancy em ahead of palace at those odds.
Risky Super Single to start 2014 if you ask me, I totally agree with the rationale on why Palace should win, but for me its a game that I would expect a low scoring draw.
For me Derby, Newcastle and Leeds would of been better options.
I know its been mentioned on other posts by other people, but I really like the outsider treble of:
Derby, Brentford, and Newcastle Btts and the win. Pays 120/1 at Betfred. Definately not a huge ask. If you don’t like the btts market and win, then just take the treble for all three to win. Its a very healthy pay out too. Derby are in superb form, and Brentford are a certain against Peterborough for me. Newcastle have the class to beat a very poor West Brom side.
Don’t know why so many think Leeds are a hot tip today.Watched them stuggle to get a draw v a poor Blackpool defence then they lost at Forest so hardly good form.
Not being funny either but i only asked Mr F a question
Ipswich are my main bet for tomorrow. They’ve gone 7 games unbeaten and aren’t conceding many either. I fancy them to win a low scoring game.
Ipswich 19/20 @ William Hill
Mr F Has put his Super single up as Crystal Palace. I had his super single last time which was Swansea at Aston Villa, and if they had not tried to walk it in the net it would have come in,and i would have had a £10 treble up with Peterhead at Berwick and and Queen of the south at Cowdenbeath as Swansea were all over Villa.
He could have picked Leeds, i suppose, Leeds are at home, try a treble with Crystal Palace, Leeds, and probably Derby who going really well, £20 treble should make about £180 back.
Good Luck
Sounds quite good…i only asked why not Leeds because Mr F might know something about them that I dont. The odds at 13/10 are quite good
Macclesfield -1 at 6/4 to start 2014 off with a super single success.
Keep up the good work Mr F, rationale behind your Ss looks good.
palace outplayed a top side last week good shout Mr f
Hi Mr F, happy new year from Down Under, great work from you and the team and all the regular contributors in 2013. Best of luck to all in 2014.
Can I ask about your staking plan for the SS. Today’s is a 2pt SS, would you anticipate most of your SS to be 2-3pt ones with occassional 4 or 5pt ones. I did level stakes before and just trying to keep the average stake same as before so trying to judge what to go with for a 2pt SS.
I personally fancy Norwich to get something from that game, so I won’t be taking it. Not confident enough to bet on it though :P
Hope it comes in for everyone that takes it.
A-League
WSW -1 @ 1.8 v Wellington Phoenix
In the last game, Tony Popovic took a bold decision and rested his best attacking trio of Ono, Juric and Hersi(did came off the bench) but the team still played well to earn a well-deserved point. The trio should be fit and well-rested for this game.
After 2 wins for Wellington Phoenix, things seem to be looking up for them till yesterday when it was announced that playmaker Carlos Hernandez will be out. I’m not too sure if anyone fancy backing a team with 2 of their best players out.
Right here i go my first 3 tips of 2014
1. Luton to score 2 or more goals 8/15
2.Birmingham to win 5/6
3. Grimsby town to win 4/7
triple pays just over 4/1 good luck people and happy new year :)
Sam looking at Luton match it pays 4/5 over 2.5 goals.Thinking of lumping on LUTON but not sure what market.
Super single – Watford 21/20 bet365
Treble – Leicester 19/20
Everton 11/10
Chesterfield 19/20
£10 bet pays £80@bet365
happy new year mr f and all, lucky punting for 2014. going for southampton 11/4 at home to chelsea
Super single :
Sheffield united 11/4 William hill
Cracking price looking very good under new manager against an inconsistent Walsall team.
Maybe it’s coz my head is hazy but Tottenham at Man U are a huge 4/1. Don’t think it would be an upset the price suggests if they won
i belive in u’re bet …i m going with tottenham to!
i belive in u’re bet …i m going with tottenham to!
Yeah why not Leeds Mr F? Why not Man Utd either or chelses, liverpool, Chesterfield, derby, Newcastle?? What about FC it’syourdecision? Or Youhaveagunatmyheadtobet united?
My first bet today is a treble BTTS and Win; Derby, Newcastle and Liverpool. Pays a handsome 550 off a fiver I believe it was when I placed it last night.
Thanks for your insights Paul and I will be following your Super Single through 2014. I trust your judgement and your strike rate speaks for itself. Good Luck and Thank you for doing all the research and putting your opinion on this site for free.
Been watching this site for a while and decided today I’ll do every SS this year and track my wins/losses. The problems come when you pick and choose which SS to bet – I always ended up picking the losers and leaving out the winners!
And I opened a new bookie account via this site. Keep the good tips coming Mr F.
Good luck for 2014 team, and good luck Crystal Palace.
Oooo not too sure on This one today, bit like marmite this tip MrF. I’m siding with Newcastle. Will do a side treble with Newcastle Luton and Hibernian (tomorrow)
Does bet 365 do a btts and win option? Cant find ut anywhere. Any replies would beu appreciated.
I’m in same boat El Diamondo, can’t find it on 365.
Bet 365 dont do score and win bet sorry
Thanks robert. Shame swany, was fancying the newcastle, derby and brentford treble being qouted on here.
Just live chatted with Bet365 about the BTTS and team to win,and asked why many other bookmakers do this bet
and they don’t,answer was they are looking into it and hopefully it should be there in the near future,as for now will have to keep doing it with Will Hill and Coral I said to them.
Cheers dar-tha-man appreciate that.
