CRACKING stuff yesterday Mr F and well done to all with a big green tick on their betting slips – I was nowhere near the winner's enclosure but having a shot at redemption.
Glentoran BU v Derry City (8pm)
Not for the first time I’m sizing up a bit of NILF action and this one looks to have plenty about it!
Aside from a doomed Portadown side, Derry City are propping up the table having amassed a spectacular seven-point haul after 15 games. Their goal difference of -51 speaks volumes and has an 84-goal differential to tonight’s opponents.
Glentoran sit a respectable 3rd place and will likely leapfrog Cliftonville into 2nd with a win tonight – the win should be a given with the real question being by how many AND will Derry chip in with a goal too?
Surprisingly, Derry did manage 2 goals in a narrow 3-2 defeat to the aforementioned Cliftonville last time out but the goals are few and far between prior to this. H2Hs do offer some hope of an away goal with one in 3 of the last 4 match-ups.
Realistically though it’s the Derry keeper who’s likely to be the one picking the ball out of the net – it’s something they and their predescessors have done 31 times across the last 5 H2H's in a 2-year spell.
The hosts have played some tight games against a few of the better teams in recent matches and I don’t wonder if Derry might bear the brunt of a response as Glentoran look to consolidate 2nd place in the table.
No goal lines set yet and will see how the land lies later if they look to present a bit of value!
Will try and add some reasoning later but a busy day ahead – the Night Owl sees me in Costa Rica on the hunt for goals.
