It was a day of near misses for Rizzel with two of his three each-way selections finishing as runner-up, one being quite unlucky not to win.

High Velocity took an eternity to get rolling, and unfortunately, the line came too soon after the horse hit top gear, losing by small margins in a very close finish. True Wisdom was given a belting front running ride by Connor Beasley, setting a muddling pace which didn't suit many of those in behind, but the well-backed favourite was too strong in the final furlong and managed to just get past True Wisdom.

Princess Shabnam was horrendous. I'm not quite sure why she ran so badly, maybe she prefers a track with a bend which will allow her to dictate the pace on her own terms rather than on a straight track where they were all spread apart. Maybe she's one to keep an eye back on the all-weather.

Rizzel's Tips

Star Mind 14/1 EW 4 places – Yarmouth 5.15

This looks like a minefield of a race but I can't help but get involved on Jack Jones' Star Mind. I tipped up Jack's other runner in the race, Huddle Up, at York just over a week ago and he was well-supported that day but didn't run due to messing around in the stalls, so I thought it was interesting that the stable jockey Dylan Hogan has swapped horses and gone for Star Mind. You'd have thought that Dylan would've maintained the partnership with Huddle Up given the market support, which must've come from the yard, so he must feel like Star Mind can run a big race in today's race.

Star Mind runs off bottom weight, which isn't exactly a light weight, but it's a help in a race as competitive as this. She has yet to win on the turf, but she definitely handles this surface despite her being 0/5 and 2/7 on the all-weather. She has been campaigned over longer trips for the most part, and I think the return to 6f could be what the doctor ordered. She can often make the running over 7f, and often goes well for the majority of the trip but the final furlong seems to catch her out, so I think with one less furlong to race over, this could be the right play to drop her to 6f.

She has to prove that she can win off a mark this high as her previous win was off 70. Her runs on turf this year off 70 and 72 have been good enough to suggest she can cut it at this level off today's mark.

Breakout Star 7/1 EW – Beverley 2.10

Beverley has a very heavy-based juvenile day today, something which might not be the best idea to get involved in, but I do think there is value to be found.

From stall 2, I think American Style could be difficult to peg back if they decide to go forward on him as the drop in trip should suit based on him looking tired over 6f. However, I did think Breakout Star was worth a bet against the short-priced favourite, trained by Tom Clover who does very well at this track.

My selection is also dropping back in trip to 5f and comes into this after having a decent-sized break, combined with having the gelding operation. From his two first starts, he has weakened in the final furlong but was well fancied to run a big race on his second start after being supported into 2/1 favourite. His pedigree suggests this drop in trip could unlock his potential with speed over 5f from the Dam's side, including a half-sibling who is 95 rated, with her two best runs coming over 5f. The wide stall is a concern, but the price available still makes the each-way bet worth it, as I don't really see too many above-average types in this race and with Tom Clover's record at Beverley, I'm expecting a big run.

Tom Clover's record at Beverley reads 2/11 but he has had 7 more placed in second or third, which means 9/11 have been placed or have won.

Another Bungle 15/2 EW – Beverley 2.40

I don't have Michael Dods' newcomer 2-year-old stats to hand, but I was very interested in his debut runner in this race.

This race has a couple of horses who have an okay level of form to their name, but nothing outstanding and it does seem to be crying out for a once-raced horse or a newcomer to sweep them away and I was interested in Another Bungle who has a nice pedigree for sprint races.

He is obviously by the Sire Bungle Inthejungle, who was a very good 2-year-old sprinter back in the day and has produced many quick juveniles over the years as a sire, but the Dam of Another Bungle has produced many winners, especially over this trip. Only one of the seven horses out of this mare has won a race, but Michael Dods has had a couple of the horses, including Zuffolo who is a full brother to Another Bungle. Zuffolo funnily enough won the other day, but he was a decent juvenile and relatively precocious, he made a good debut at this track and won on his second start. The same comments can be applied to the other full-sibling who also raced for Dods, who managed to win on his second start. Obviously, Another Bungle will have to do something which those horses didn't manage, and that is to win first time out, but today's opposition isn't out of this world and the yard has fired in three winners from their last six runners, so they are coming into form at the right time for my selection.

Inappropriate 7/2 – Beverley 5.28

I am a big fan of young Kaiya Fraser who is definitely one of the better 5lb claimers on the circuit, and he makes the trip up to Beverley for one ride only on the Harry Eustace horse, Inappropriate.

A lot of the horses in this race aren't in the best of form, which makes things slightly more dangerous as their handicap marks will be dropping, but I can't help but think that Inappropriate might be able to surpass today's opposition after putting in some good, consistent performances in defeat this season.

There's no doubts about today's trip on a stiff track like Beverley as the horse ran a good race over 2f further last time out. Prior to that he was a runner-up on good to soft ground which might not have suited him fully, but the horse who won was evidently on a good mark and relishes soft ground conditions, as he proved by winning again off a 7lbs higher mark. Inappropriate was 4.5L clear of the third who seemingly ran to form. He has been unlucky not to get his head in front in his career so far, especially with the head defeat at Nottingham sticking out as the closest effort. The form of that race looks decent with horses boosting the form since.

My selection is still only a 3-year-old and is a likeable horse who is consistent, and still might be on a good mark off 66 with Kaiya dropping that down to 61. I've said this a lot recently, but I think he will run a huge race and I will be disappointed if he's not going close.
