Riskintheground didn't put a foot wrong over the fences, and Harry Skelton managed to guide him home, just in time.
Harry oozed confidence, and it was about asking the horse to pick up at the right time. He had to switch him around the three who were vying for the win, and delivered just after jumping the last. It took a while for him to go past the runner-up, and it would've been shocking if he didn't get the win.
Grand Geste got the lead, then got taken on, and after that, he drifted back through the field by quite a considerable margin. I'm not sure if the horse spat his dummy out or if it was the jockey's decision. I was never confident when he went towards the back, and even when the horse was plugging on and looked to be in with a chance, I was confident it was false hope.
Sherborne 7/4 (2pt) – Hereford 6.00
It's weird to see the level of improvement that Sherborne has shown in the last two runs. He is now classed as a veteran, and we do see horses return to form and sometimes improve, and Sherborne is clearly in that category.
Sherborne's last two wins were back-to-back career best efforts according to Racing Post Ratings, which I think are very accurate. Since he is in tremendous form, I see no reason why he can't continue his Indian Summer, and I think he could be hard to beat.
The handicapper has put him up a few more pounds for his recent runaway success, but I thought it was a solid effort. I tipped up the runner-up in that race, and I thought Sherborne did well to keep rolling, as the third-placed horse was pestering him for the lead for at least 80% of the race, and they went a good gallop.
The only horse I am concerned about in this race is Black Hawk Eagle, who won last time out and has a good piece of form behind Bluey. He hasn't gone over any trip this far in his career, so it seems weird to step him up after a win. There's nothing to suggest he'll be better at this trip, and his pedigree doesn't scream out wanting further, so I'm happy to stick with Sherborne.
