It was nice to land a couple of winners on the same thread, finally.
Rocking Man won with a fair bit up his sleeve, but it didn't look like it was going to be a success for the entire race.
He didn't go through the race as well as I hoped. His jumping wasn't quick over a few obstacles either, but he managed to show his class inside the final furlong.
Kingston Queen put in a very nice performance, jumping extremely well on her hurdling debut. She will be destined for Class 1 Mare's only races as the season goes on, and I think she will be good enough to land one.
I thought it was worth mentioning a couple of the Skelton runners in the novice races at Chepstow. They were given very dubious rides, and will be ones to follow next time out, if the bookies price them up nicely.
Leader In The Park EVS (2pt) – Newbury 3.25
Ben Jones didn't do me any favours on Indemnity on the weekend, but he has been getting plenty of winners for Ben Pauling.
I do rate Jones as a jockey, and I think if he decides to go forward on Leader In The Park, we will be cooking on gas.
This race isn't going to be a walk in the park, despite only being a four-runner race. Outlaw Peter is a useful horse on his day, but is still slightly high in the handicap, and a fair few of Nicholls' horses have needed the run first time out.
Marvel De Cerisy is making his UK debut for new trainer Christian Williams. As I mentioned last week, I will not touch a horse from this yard unless it's a big pot. I highly doubt he'll be ready first time out.
Lord Baddesley is on a good handicap mark and has won off a few pounds higher in the past. He wasn't in great form last year, and has it all to prove at the age of ten.
Leader In The Park is still only a seven-year-old, and this is his second season as a chaser. He managed to win twice over fences last year, and I think he can progress further and hopefully make all of the running at Newbury.
Back it with Tote (no fixed odds)Formel Park 11/4 (1pt) – Ludlow 3.12
Another yard that is dodgy and not one you can rely on for maximum effort is the Evan Williams yard. However, I think there is a decent chance that their runner in this race will be worth siding a few quid with.
Evan Williams is the master of getting a hurdler down to a ridiculously low handicap mark before sending them over fences, where they improve massively.
Formel Park has been a dud over the shorter obstacles, but his handicap mark of 69 sees him have a massive chance on chasing debut in a very weak race.
Back it with Tote (no fixed odds)Fierce Warrior 7/2 (1pt) – Sedgefield 2.30
Seeing a Nicky Henderson runner at Sedgfield caught my eye from a mile away for Thursday's racing.
Nicky has been training for many moons now, but he has only ever had three runners at Sedgefield, and all three have won. That is a very good omen for today's runner Fierce Warrior.
It would have been nice to see Nico or James Bowen come up for the ride, but with Newbury being on the same day, it was never going to happen.
Brian Hughes is not my cup of tea as a jockey; I think he's weak and is lazy in the saddle, but he has a solid record for Nicky.
Brian is 3/8 when riding for Henderson, which has accumulated a significant profit of +£22.98 to £1 level stakes.
