Unfortunately, both of Tuesday's runners were non-runners.
Both were removed from racing due to ‘unsuitable ground', which is a bit contradictory.
Both horses have run well or won on ground similar to today, so it makes no sense why they wouldn't run.
However, if they deem it not safe ground for their horses to run on, then I'm all for it. Safety is paramount, and I know we've not had a lot of rain in some of the southern-based tracks, making it quick ground.
Rocking Man 6/4 (1pt) – Chepstow 12.30
It's a fairly big risk going for Rocking Man on the back of a 500+ day absence, as this has some good-looking novices. However, if Rocking Man is tuned up for his first run over hurdles, I think he takes the world of beating.
We obviously don't know how fit he is, or if he can jump a hurdle, but he is trained by Sam Thomas, who leaves no stone unturned with horses like this.
Sam is mustard with horses returning from a long layoff, and he is equally as good at training a newcomer to hurdles/fences.
Rocking Man has some very solid bumper form over the last two seasons he has been in that sphere of racing.
The runner-up finishes to Queensbury Boy and Jurancon rate high at this level. Queensbury Boy is now rated 131 over hurdles, and is 2/4. Jurancon is also a similar rating of 132 and has won 3/5 and finished in the runner-up spot on the two other occasions.
Back it with Tote (no fixed odds)Kingston Queen 9/4 (1pt) – Chepstow 13.00
Obviously, having strong bumper form doesn't always translate to being a very good hurdler, but it definitely helps.
When a horse has a good level of form from bumpers, we know they have plenty of speed and ability. If they can translate some of that to their jumping technique, you're onto a winner.
Kingston Queen has some of the best form from bumpers in the country from the Mare division.
She won a Listed race at Market Rasen before finishing third in a Grade 2 at Aintree, which has seen the form franked in bumpers and hurdle races.
It's interesting that David Pipe is more than happy to race against the boys and make full advantage of the mare's allowance. If she can jump well and is fit, she should run away with this.
There are some unknowns coming from the PTP sphere, but they will have to be very useful to dispose of Kingston Queen.
