Thursdays NAP of the Day

Well, yesterday’s Nap was the third disappointment in quick succession, eating further into the running profit, which stands at a modest +£14. Hopefully we can improve on that figure today.

Chelmsford - 17:30

Simiyann

5/1

Ahead of the second race at Chelmsford this evening, there’s lots to like about Simiyann at early odds of 5/1.

For starters, these aren’t deep waters, which could allow the Ian Williams runner to swim a little faster than he did at Pontefract last time out.

Stepping back down to an even two-mile trip, the gelding drops back in grade having competed in a Class 5 last time out, and it’s that drop in grade that could make all the difference here, while the return to Chelmsford rates as a plus too.

Can build on a promising recent course run

Over an extended two miles at Newcastle (Class 5) on his penultimate run, the mount of Richard Kingscote, ran respectably to finish fourth, missing out narrowly on third, while he wasn’t beaten far by the winner.

Prior to that Newcastle run, over one mile and six furlongs, the gelding ran well at this venue, taking fourth in a better Class 6 than this, staying on well in the latter stages. That run tells me that he can be a serious player over two miles at the Essex track.

Twice placed in Class 5 company on the all-weather last season, the four-year-old, who remains lightly raced, has been a little unlucky not to get his head in front and as far as I'm concerned, he’s shown more than enough to suggest that he can win a Class 6 of this nature.

Let’s be honest, this race lacks depth. For a trainer that has fired in a few winners of late, with the cheekpieces back on, don’t be surprised if he gets off the mark.

For my money, he could easily be the favourite here and I’d still be interested were he a 7/2 shot. In other words, the four-year-old has done more than enough to be shorter than the currently available odds of 5/1. All the time such a price is on offer, it’s worth taking.

Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is +£14 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).

Best of luck with this one today.

I tipped him up the time before last. He’s had two shocking rides in the last two runs.

The time I stuck him up at Newcastle he was miles off the pace in a race which lacked pace. Last time out the same jockey took him to the front half way round and went far too quick.

Hopefully, they get it right today.
