Cairnzy will be covering Sunday's racing this evening. Rizz will return tomorrow with Monday's card.
I managed to catch both of Rizzel’s selections on Saturday. I thought the ride on Matterhorn was baffling to say the least. Harry Cobden never managed to fully grab the lead on a horse who enjoys to go forward, but I thought he was going okay in behind for the most part of the race. In the blink of an eye, the horse fell towards the rear of the field, and that was that.
Rizzel’s other selection was dancingwithmyself for trainer Michael Bell and jockey Luke Morris. The horse missed the break and had to be ridden cold towards the rear. The horse did make some headway into the straight but didn’t have enough in the locker to claw back those in front.
Layla Liz 9/2 – Nottingham 4:25
Nad Alshiba Green would be your most obvious starting point for this contest, and I’m not surprised that he’s marked up as your favourite for this race. He’s a consistent handicapper and is proven at a higher level than this.
I opted to stick with my guns and go with the Archie Watson-trained Layla Liz, who notably got the better of the Nad Alshiba Green last time out when the pair met at Wolverhampton last month. I did catch a replay of that race, and in the grand scheme, Nad Alshiba Green did well to get as close as he did to my selection, given he had to come from a pretty difficult position when making his challenge. Layla Liz has been raised 3lb for that success, which doesn’t seem too harsh for a horse who is clearly on the up. Now on a mark of 90, I don’t believe she has fully reached her ceiling just yet.
Hollie Doyle takes the ride for Archie Watson, who at present has his string in good nick, operating at a 28% SR in the last 14 days.
