None of Rizzel’s selections managed to win on Saturday's lucky 15 bet.
The flat season is only just getting started, and as usual, it’s normally a nightmare to find consistency with it. You don’t know which horses are fit. We’ve no real idea which horses have improved during their time away from the track.
Fingers crossed, I can find some winning selections on Sunday.
City Of Dreams 9/4 – Wetherby 1.55
Not normally a race I’d have a bet in myself, given most of this field have question marks on their heads.
I did opt to give a chance to Ed Bethell's City Of Dreams, who did start to improve slightly on the all-weather surface recently, so be it at a low Class 6 level.
I thought he looked interesting switching to turf, and with a handy 7lb claimer on board in Harry Vigors, he could have a part to play against a pretty dire field.
Secret History 7/4 – Wetherby 4.05
I really liked the look of Secret History for this race, and I’m a huge fan of the Shoemark and Ed Walker combo. The pair have teamed up quite well since Kieran lost his job under the Gosdens.
My selection was last seen winning a Class 4 contest at Chelmsford back in January. She looked like she had improved a fair bit from two to three, and she brings plenty of potential to this race.
Art Gallery was another one I looked at, having also won last time out. I think the race could be between the two at the finish.
Light The Night Up 4/1 – Nottingham 2.13
Again, not normally a race I would have a bet in, but Karl Burkes Light The Night Up caught my eye, and I’ve opted to throw him in this Sunday's lucky 15 bet.
My selection remains a maiden after five runs but also remains a consistent sort with recent form figures of 52334. His seasonal reappearance came at this same venue at the start of the month, and I thought it was a good effort given he was off the track for around half a year. He’s dropped 2lb for that effort, and jockey Jack Nicholls takes off a further 5lb. I think he can come on bundles for the most recent outing.
Alther Walden 4/5 – Mussleburgh 6.15
My final selection comes from Musselburgh in the evening in the shape of Alther Walden.
He isn’t the most exciting of prices at 4/5, but if he stays the extra three furlongs, which I think he will on the back of his previous efforts, then I think he lands the hat trick.
My selection has bolted up the last twice, once at Catterick, then again at Newcastle after having wind surgery beforehand. He’s only risen 6lb for his most recent victory, which looks lenient enough in my opinion.
