At the time of writing, Tote haven't put up their 27th December Placepot. This will be done later on.
Scorsese started Boxing Day with a win in the opener at Sedgefield, under a smart front-running ride by Harry Atkins.
Indeevar Bleu was a ready winner at much larger odds. He appreciated the step up in trip, pulling clear of a decent handicap field.
Pedley Wood was not on a going day; he was in trouble a long way from home.
Gaelic Warrior was part of a barn burner in the King George. Paul Townend messed about with 100 yards or so to the line. If he got his hands on the reins and drove Gaelic Warrior instead of messing around, he might've won.
Jubilee Express 11/2 (1pt EW, 5pl) – Chepstow 2.50
It was an impressive win at this track for the Welsh National Trial 21 days ago for Jubilee Express. You could tell from an early stage that he was going to take the world of beating, and he proved that.
In races like this, having stamina assured horses is often the play. You are open to improvers for the step up in trip, but more often than not, those horses get found out.
Jubilee Express was second in this race last year to Val Dancer, only losing out by a couple of lengths. He gets to run in this race off a similar weight, and given how well he jumped last time out, he has to be one of the main players.
The likes of Haiti Couleurs and Mr Vango have to be respected off heavy weight. I would have been keen on Mr Vango, but it appears that he does his best work with a longer break, and he was in a ding-dong battle at Aintree a few weeks ago.
Lump Sum 11/8 (1pt) – Kempton 1.55
I think it's very easy to give the four-year-old a fair chance in this. He receives weight from all around, and the form of his wins has started to work out very well.
My main issue is that when I've given a chance to horses like this when going up in grade, they tend to struggle against classier opposition.
Lump Sum stood out like the bet in this race, and despite not being fantastic odds, it wouldn't surprise me if he went off odds-on.
Dylan Johnston has opted for one ride at Kempton over a couple at Chepstow, including Jubilee Express in the Welsh National.
Based on hurdles form, Lump Sum is the one to beat, and I think he's made a decent start to life over fences. The win at Uttoxeter has had its form boosted from the second and third.
Indemnity 2/1 (1pt) – Kempton 3.37
I mentioned how I believe Indemnity is well ahead of the handicapper, and it all boils down to whether his jumping holds up for the entirety of a race. I tipped up Indeevar Bleu at Aintree on Boxing Day, who was ahead of Indemnity last time out, and he has gone on to win emphatically.
This will be the third time I've tipped this horse up, and on his runner-up finish the time before, he bumped into Alexei, a lovely horse. Last time out, he chucked his chances away with scruffy jumping.
I don't think there is a horse in the same bracket as the horses that have been ahead of him in his last two races, so he is the one to beat. Good ground seems ideal for him, and I think the speedier track will be advantageous as well.
