Lexington Blitz 11/2 – Goodwood 4.55
I think this could be one of the best races on Saturday, and you could easily give a chance to any of the horses.
Lexington Blitz was the one I thought would come out on top. Downhill tracks like Goodwood and Epsom are what Lexington Blitz is all about, so you can ignore the poor efforts elsewhere, like at York last time out.
Prior to York, he had won at Goodwood, finished third in a Class 2 competitive handicap at Epsom, then was 6th/23 at Glorious Goodwood behind a couple of these. However, he didn't get the best of passages in that race, so with a smaller field, I think he deserves a shot to show he is better than them.
Silawi 7/1 – Windsor 6.30
If my selection, Silawi, doesn't win this race, I'd love to see White Birch win for his new connections.
If we had seen an encouraging run prior to this race for White Birch, his price wouldn't be what it is now, and he'd also be my bet. We haven't seen him since moving to Jamie Osborne's yard, but he has always been a Group 1 performer and a classy horse. It's a shame he's made of polystyrene, and you can't trust him after a break.
Silawi is another older horse who has plenty of ability, but we don't see him too often. He made his return in a Group 1 in Germany, where he must've needed the run. I know they were trying to run him earlier in the season, but decided against it. He has run well in Group 1 races in the past, and even won a Group 1 at Woodbine. With fitness on his side now, I thought he was too big of a price.
Edelak 4/1 – Cartmel 3.53
Dan Skelton landed the jumps championship for the first time last season, and he'll want to create a legacy by winning multiple. Winning races like this during the summer months will give him a lovely head start, so I think Edelak can continue his run over hurdles to win this Cartmel Cup.
He is 4/7 over hurdles, winning three in a row before falling as the odds-on shot. He turned that back around by winning last time out when also being heavily fancied, and even though this is his toughest assignment to date, he could still be ahead of the handicapper.
La Fuerza 11/4 – Sandown 4.35
This will be the toughest race so far in the short career of La Fuerza, but going off his win on the all-weather last time out, there should be more to come.
He wasn't overly fancied in the market last time out, but he still got the job done and won at 11/1. At the time, I can imagine no one really rated the form. Even though there haven't been Class 1 winners produced in that race, there have been subsequent winners, which is always a very positive sign in juvenile races.
Mason Paetel takes the ride and removes 5lbs on La Fuerza's handicap debut, which could be the fine margins needed to win this race.
