Before we talk racing, I'd like to announce some upcoming changes to the racing thread here at MFT that will be starting from July 1st.

I'm delighted to welcome back my good friend Rizzel, who will combine with me going forward from the start of the next month. I don't need to introduce Rizz to those who are regular followers of the thread but for those who are new, Rizz was the previous headline tipster before handing the reigns over to me a few months ago. Rizz was brilliant during his time in the hot seat, offering great knowledge in both flat and jump racing.

One of the main areas we want to improve is the amount of selections on offer for people. Starting in July, the aim is to provide four selections daily, two from myself and two from Rizz. This will give everyone who enjoys following the thread a wider variety and of course the option of two tipsters rather than just myself.

We will be introducing a combined profit and loss system to the page. It's been highlighted in the comments section by quite a few people, that they would appreciate some stats on how the thread is performing. Although it's not something I've done myself, I am open to bringing in the idea and hopefully it will be appreciated by those who have asked for it in the past.

We will also be introducing a separate racing thread which will be solely based around ‘Lucky 15 Tips'. There are countless ways of placing bets in horse racing but the Lucky 15 bet is up there with one of the most common types of bets placed each day. I'm personally more of a singles, doubles, and trebles man, however, I also enjoy a lucky 15 bet from time to time, in particular in the bigger meetings as the bet covers you for four races, giving you multiple chances of winning money without your bet losing at the first hurdle.

If you have any questions regarding the upcoming changes, feel free to comment below and I will get back to you in due course.

Onto Friday's racing!

Due to finalizing and working on the upcoming changes, I haven't had much time to study Friday's cards so I only have the sole selection for Friday.

Berkshire Nugget 10/3 – Yarmouth 4.05

My sole selection for Friday comes in the shape of Berkshire Nugget for trainer Andrew Balding.

Running of bottom weight in this contest, I think Balding has found the perfect opportunity for Berkshire Nugget to shread his maiden. Although not winning in any of his starts to date, Berkshire Nugget has improved with each run. He ran three times last season, finishing fourth in each of those three starts.

He was gelded over the winter period and returned after a 193-day break to finish second at Kempton on the AW behind Mr Baloo. I thought that was a respectable return after a break given Mr Baloo had some decent form in the book from the previous year and has since gone on to win a race whilst also running well in better company. A four and a half length defeat to Portsmouth was an eye-catching run given that one went on to finish second in a class two and also ran at the Royal Ascot meeting which saw him finish mid-pack.

My selection has run twice in handicaps this season, finishing just shy of a length of the winner on both occasions, including in his most recent race at Newmarket only a week ago. Despite a seven-week break, Berkshire Nugget did well to only go down by three-quarters of a length to Global Asset, who looks a progressive sort from the William Haggas yard.

Berkshire Nugget looks a well-handicapped horse and as he comes here racing off the same mark, he is surely a big player in this contest.

      Pointless idea dazzman for me.
The people who bring up the headline tipsters stats know very well they are running at a loss as do regulars here.
We also know when they are on a good run.

When you are on a bad run detailing the falling figures leads to chasing the losses and undermines the tipsters self confidence.

My take is today is today, if it’s a good day yippee enjoy it.
If it’s a losing day it Is exactly that, one day.
You then move on to tomorrow with a clear slate and a clear conscience.

Also a combined profit loss figure is a kop out as one tipster can hide his losses with the other tipsters gains, a kop out.

None of the other sports threads detail such stats do why is this thread different.

Hopefully people aren’t stupid enough to follow tips blind so any losses incurred through following blindly are the punters fault for being too idle to check them out for themselves before placing their bets.

Also as bus stop points out regularly a lot of posters have gone and if you ask me this move won’t attract them back.

      @Elvis

I think your point of stat tracking is a tad over the top. Although point tracking isn’t something that I’ve done personally, I think it’s not the worse idea, when bad runs happen confidence is down anyhow so it doesn’t really make a difference. I’ve never been one for shying away from bad form neither has Rizz so a small highlight each week of profit and loss I don’t think is a huge drama. Of course people will find themselves down or up regardless as they will back their own selections but for those who simply follow the thread it will at least give them an idea of what’s happening.

In regards to combined profit and loss being a supposed kop out, I again would have to disagree. I understand your point, however, this is a combined racing thread which is posted under one. The format will be laid out in away that people can see my own tips and also Rizzels, therefore the hiding behind another persons form becomes irrelevant as you’ll see who is tipping winning selections and who is not. Furthermore, if you end up quids in, then who cares right? Surely the aim is try end in profit and land some winners throughout the month.

It will of course be a hard task given we will now have 4 selections each day instead of the usual one or two but I personally thought the lack of selections was an issue. Of course racing can be grim throughout the week and sometimes it’s better to post less than more but it at least gives people a variety.

In regards to the other sporting threads, we have multiple football tipsters covering countless articles and previews on each games so point tracking on that would be a pretty pointless task.

It’s myself and Rizz on here so it’s easy enough to track and for those who aren’t interested in the point tracking side of things, can simply draw a blind eye to it.

      @Elvis

I forgot to mention old posters, think we’ve spoke about this before.

I can’t control when people want to post selections and get involved in the comments and the old users which we’ve highlighted in the past were long gone before I started and some even before Rizz.

Again, I think the flat season is a factor, most go hiding during it, it’s a nightmare most of the time, as much as I prefer it to the jumps.

The toxicity in the comments was probably another reason, the sly digs at each other and the negativity would be enough to push anyone away. I always enjoyed reading some of the past posters views in racing but as already mentioned I can’t bring them back.

Can only remain positive and take it day per day!

Cairnzy . .Nothing prove with stats tracking its tough for anyone trying pick winners. Agree with Elvis one day then move on to next one good day can wipe out a week of bad days and again no gun in anyones back if to follow a tipster or not.

What would worry me is saying you will pick 2 horses every day .What as todays circumstances as above no time to study or you just fancy the one why then pick 2 ,Surely Tipsters pick what they have studied and fancy on the day could even be more than 2 .

The lucky 15 thing presume yours will be yours and rizzles combined 4 every day .

I as you mentioned only pick on jumps racing so often do not have any bets to come on here .Often find nothing I fancy even on the jumps and would certainly not put anything up I wasnt betting myself.

So nothing to prove on here and keep up the good work.

No need for apologies bud, mine invariably lose so hopefully yours will win 🤣.

I saw ikigai star as the standout danger to mine tbh.
Mine is up to class 4 today and if going is good I’m hoping their is slack in his handicap to bring his flat form into play.
That’s the theory but as I said earlier if they lost today’s book closes and tomorrow is a bright new day with hopes and aspirations of richness beyond our wildest dreams 🤣🤣💥.

With points tracking Carrying today’s losses into tomorrow serves no purpose but to change the way you pick tomorrow’s horses as you half an eye on the minus figure (chasing losses)
Anyway last I say on the subject so let’s move on.
