Racing tips: A rare Venetia runner at Catterick is the best bet of Friday

Short-priced horses aren't my normal types of bets, but it seems that whenever I venture into thinking they shouldn't get beat, they lose. Fair play to Bobo Mac the 13yo who beat my selection who was backed into a shade of odds-on, but I firmly believe a horse who is on the up, is on the same handicap mark as his last win should be beating a horse at the age of 13.

Pimlico Point jumped great at Ffos Las but he didn't have the stamina to see the trip out on heavy ground off a heavy weight. He was inconvenienced by two horses sandwiching him over the final three/four fences, but he wasn't going to win anyway.

Meydan 3:15 – Miller's House 28/1 (0.5pt EW, Bet365 5pl)

This is a honking race, so despite there being a lot of runners in this 0-80 handicap, I think there is a definite betting angle with Miller's House.

I'd like to say all but two or three in this race have no chance of winning, and I think Miller's House will have a nice chance from stall 2 if he can come on for that recent run at Meydan. This horse has been competitive in much better races than this over the last couple of years, including 75-103 handicaps over today's trip but at Jebel Ali which saw him finish 3rd. That came off a handicap mark of 75, so in theory in a much worse race off a 4lb lower mark he has to come into serious consideration if you're having a bet in this contest.

He has moved yards and had his first run for new trainer R Bouresly when finishing 8th/9 at odds of 50/1, but that was his first run in 500+ days so he definitely would have needed that run, but with that fitness run behind him, if he can break well from Stall 2 I think he can be winning this race with ease if he is on tune. Richard Mullen is on board again and he is a great pilot around Meydan, especially on the dirt.

Catterick 3:05 – Eleanor Bob 2/1 (2pt)

I was a bit of worried about how Eleanor Bob would stay the trip at Haydock the time before last, but she surprised me and did seem to stay the trip out nicely. If you can forgive her for her run last time out, she is the one to beat in my eyes.

Eureka Creek is the favourite for this race on the back of a decent 3rd at Cheltenham, but is the form really that good if you take the winner out of it? I believe not. The runner-up was trounced when put up in class, and many in behind haven't exactly run well since, so based on that and the fact that this horse is going up to 3m 1f when arguably her best form is at 2m 4f, she has to be taken on. She did finish 3rd behind a couple of Jamie Snowden runners, but once again the two in front of her have hardly boosted that form.

I think the form of Eleanor Bob's recent fourth at Haydock is good form. The winner won at Haydock on his next start. The runner-up was 3rd behind the same winner the time after and has finished 4th in the Classic Chase at Warwick which is a Grade 3. Also, the 7th-placed horse has won since.
