Rosscahill was a non-runner at Exeter, which left us with no runners on Friday.
The race was eventually won by Isaac Des Obeaux, who finally managed to win over fences on the fifth attempt.
He was one of my fancied runners, but I opted for his owner-mate. When a horse is a non-runner, I'm not a fan of replacing them with another. If I liked them that much the first time around, they'd already be posted.
No Questions Asked 6/4 (2pt) – Ascot 3.00
I tipped up Steel Ally on his chasing debut. He did make a few iffy jumps, but for the most part, he jumped well. He beat some good horses at Carlisle, but he was in receipt of 11lbs from his rivals, which definitely made life a lot easier.
Not only that, the runner-up is a horse who is always primed for a tilt at a race at Cheltenham in March, so he probably beat a weak version.
Jax Junior was also a tip from his run last time out. He beat Jeriko Du Reponet, who is another horse being aimed at a handicap in March. He did it well at Kempton and could easily make a bold bid from the front.
No Questions Asked was the one I liked the most. He has proven Class 1 form from last time out when finishing second to Wendigo, who had proven Grade 1 form over hurdles last year.
Evidently, he is a better chaser than a hurdler, and there's no reason why he can't continue to progress. This looks like an easier race than last time out, and as long as he handles the slower ground over fences, he is the one to beat.
Indulto Rouge 25/1 (0.5pt EW) – Ascot 3.35
This bumper race looks ridiculously competitive, and very hard to weigh up which form lines are the ones to follow based on the horses with wins. I think you'll see a lot of these turn into decent horses over hurdles and fences over the next five years.
David Pipe has won this race four times since 2013, and outside of the years he has won, he has not had a runner. That means since 2013, he is 4/4 in this race, which is impressive given how competitive these Listed bumper races at Ascot are.
In the past, he has won this race with arguably his best bumper horse of that year. Last year, he won it with Windbeneathmywings, who was the favourite for the Cheltenham Bumper, but didn't end up going.
Based on his first start, Indulto Rouge has a fair bit to find if he wants to compete against the market principles, but at good odds, I'm willing to take a chance.
He was backed in on his debut, but could only manage a third-placed finish. He was outpaced, and maybe the good ground was too quick for him, and he might've needed the run.
Today, he faces much softer ground and a stiffer track with a big field. Hopefully, they don't dawdle, and they set a solid pace for this PTP winner to aim at.
