WHAT a great eight-stroke win at the weekend for Martin Kaymer in the US Open. It's the fourth time in five Opens a European has won the tournament and hopefully this is an omen for the Ryder Cup later on this year.
We’re back to Europe this week with the Irish Open at the Fota Island Resort in Cork with a really good field including McIlroy and GMac.
My head’s telling me it’s a win for Rory but his price is far too short so I’m going for a good price in Stephen Gallacher. He’s looking really strong these days and is desperate to play at Gleneagles in the Ryder Cup.
The Scot has had five top-10 finishes this year and apart from a bad US Open finished T2 in the Nordea Masters and T5 in the BMW PGA Championship in his last two tournaments.
My next pick is a man who is definitely on the comeback trail, Paul Casey. He’s playing a lot on the US Tour and quite a few times has got himself into contention only to fade. He’s one good round away from a top-five finish. Hopefully this could be it.
Frenchman Victor Dubuisson looks a certainty to be in the Ryder Cup squad this year and I planned to back him but he has pulled out.
Over on the PGA Tour we’ve got the Travellers Championship and call me an old fool but I’m going with good old Dustin Johnson again. He had a solid US Open (T4th) and this will be his seventh tournament in a row so his game should be steady.
His stats are still high in most of the revelant categories, including GIR, driving distance, eagles, birdies and scoring averages so he’s due his second win on Tour.
Even with a 76 in the third round Keegan Bradley had a great T4th in the US Open with solid rounds of 69, 69 and 67. He’s been blowing a bit hot and cold recently but has had some decent results, like last week. I think he’ll go close this week so worth a punt.

Kaymer was a standout bet last week given his return to form, proven major win and temperament for a US Open….got 41/1 enhanced win only with Stan James so it was a good Major for me! Will post selections later
