GOALS were pretty thin on the ground on day one of the Women’s World Cup, with co-hosts New Zealand and Australia both claiming 1-0 wins.
But we should get more thrills today as Spain seeks revenge on Costa Rica for a shock 1-1 draw at the 2015 tournament.
That result was a stunner but I’d be surprised if the Spanish didn’t win heavily today, given Costa Rica have lost 4-0 in friendlies to Scotland, the Netherlands and Venezuela in the last year.
Spain finished bottom of their group back in 2015 but fared much better at the last World Cup and were knocked out in the last 16 by eventual winners America.
It was the same story at last summer’s Euros as only a late leveller robbed them of a win over England before the Lionesses won in extra-time.
The bookies make Spain 1/50 favourites today with Costa Rica as big as 175/1 and even the draw paying 60/1.
It’s hard finding value but I like the 6/5 on offer at SkyBet for the Spanish to score a penalty. The player markets are also worth a look, although all Spain’s forwards are heavy odds-on for anytime scorer. Jennifer Hermoso hit a double in their final warm-up game and is 15/8 at SkyBet to grab two or more goals again today.
The Danish season gets underway tonight and Midtjylland will be desperate to atone for a poor campaign that saw them finish a lowly eighth.
The three-time champions kick off with a home game against promoted Hvidovre and are heavy favourites at a best 2/7 with Bet365. The new boys are 11/1 outsiders with the same firm and even the draw is 5/1 at SpreadEx.
Korean striker Gue-Sung Cho is the marquee signing up front for Midtjylland this summer after being linked with Celtic and Watford. He looks decent value for a debut goal at 13/10 (Paddy Power) if he starts.
There’s also a top-flight game in Sweden tonight as IF Brommapojkarna bid to bounce back from their Hacken heartbreak when they host Hammarby.
I backed IF at -2 in the handicap on Saturday and it looked good with the score at 2-2 heading into injury time. But they conceded twice to slump to a fourth consecutive defeat and bust my coupon.
Hammarby have won three of their last four so look decent value at 13/10 (Unibet) to pile on the pain for their hosts tonight

Well done all winners and I will post my tennis plays during the morning.
Yep MJT – totally echo boabee8867’s comments.
Your performance to date has been exceptional, and no event involving humans or animals is ever 100% certain (otherwise gambling wouldn’t exist)
Just keep doing what you are doing 👍😉
Cheers again Chris. I think it was just the manner of some of the results yesterday which was just a bit disheartening. It happens sometimes though especially in individual sports. On to the next and hopefully back to profit today 👍
don,t be to hard on yourself , at the end of the day it,s not your fault that some of the selections didn.t succeed.. it,s the performances of the guys you picked that have let you down..
still a tidy profit for that period tho..
looking forward to seeing your football predictions once the legs have been turned over after a few weeks of the season..
any particular angle you concentrate on ??..Scottish , English ??, corners , goals etc ??
Thanks boabee8867. Yeah it’s still been a good week and over +30 units for the month so far. Just slightly disappointing there were so many poor performances on the same day.
My football selections will mainly be in England but will also have some in the main European leagues. Will be a mix of wins, goals, corners & cards.
Also looking forward to the start of the NFL season in September 👍
If your not on the Gambla channel when the NFL kicks off I will certainly follow on the NFL.

▪️Over 2.5 Match Goals Double (Evens, bet365)
And the pens continue to go in. The double already landed from the first two games. Can Spain game deliver a pen in the third. Hope people are backing following my comments yesterday. BoL
I think there will be a penalty in every game at this rate….that one in the Switzerland game was ridiculous. I don’t understand this referee announcement thing either. No explanation as to why the penalty has been given just a “after reviewing off field, my decision is penalty”.
Normally enjoy watching the women but it has to be said the standard in the first 3.5 games has been very poor. Credit to New Zealand and Nigeria who did well against their respective opponents.
Agree Craigyboy but given the markets available I am not complaining!
Hoping Spain and England will bring the goals.
P.s the one other market which I think will be fruitful is own goals. Most odds are above 7 or 8/1. Will be backing that too for the Spain and England games.
After your penalties bets, couldn’t bet on pens on Bfair or 365. Had to login to whills. First time in 3 years? Waiting on Spain pen.
On whills. Spain women over 3 corners each half. 11/10.
And there’s the own goal. Loving this tournament already.
Nice one I got 7/1 with b365 just need a pen now for the treble.
Brilliant! BoL
And there’s the penalty, first half goals have also been a goldmine.
Womens football is absolutely god awful
Spain v Costa Rica
inplay over 16 corners 5/2
And there it is for yous lot, well done.
Its like watching Rangers every game in this WC,penalties galore
And there’s the pen and it’s missed so bigger odds win. Treble landed. Doubles landed and singles included own goal landed. Love it! Hope some of you were on!
Glad that you were on! 👍🏽
shame you never mentioned it before the start of the tourney could have been waiting on spain for 5 pens in a row
cheers
I did actually if you look at the thread from yesterday.
i was joking, when i woke up this morning, couldnt believe i was waiting on a spain penalty for the treble.
cheers for mentioning the bets
Glad that you were on 👍🏽
German lower leagues start the night, really is a good place for goals.
Regional Bayern sees Wurzburger Kickers entertain newly promoted Memmingen who came up via a playoff. Couldnt be a tougher start for Memmingen against a Kickers side who narrowly missed out on promotion last year by finishing 2nd but in these leagues its not enough as only the top team gets promoted.
Kickers only lost 1 of 19 home games last season in which they won 12 and drew 6. They scored a massive 58 goals at home and werent much slacker on the road with 45 goals on away days. However they only managed 5 clean sheets in those 19 homes so perhaps the new boys can bag 1 tonight in what looks like a home win.
Wurzburger Kickers win & BTTS 29/20
Had another wee inquisitive look there,Memmingen scored in 13 of 17 aways in their promotion season last year
20 corners in the Spain game already. Costa Ricas players will tire late on

Re the pens, the only value is on the outsider scoring a pen, or either team (esp the favourite) missing a pen.
Ive been backing missed pens, for that reason.
Spot on baldy , good luck to the guys on the pens but the prices for the favourite to net 1 are poor imo .
Ante-post tips for EPL
Spurs to finish in the top four at 10/3
Spurs have no European football for the first time in years and have no reason not to be challenging for a top four place, they won’t need to rotate players (which can have a impact on results) so really no excuse not to be up there. Conte has left now and with a pre-season under their new manager they should get back to their free flowing football. It wouldn’t surprise me if they won a domestic trophy with the reasons above. They also managed to keep Harry Kane as we all know is one of the best in the league.
Man Utd not to finish in the top four at 1/1
I just can’t see how Man Utd can compete in the Champions League and the Premier league with their current squad there just isn’t enough depth and when you look at the age of some of their midfielders injuries are bound to play a part, yes they brought in Mason Mount but is he really a gamechanger for them. United also brought in a new goalkeeper Andre Bonana and shoved De Gea out the door, when you look at it how many games did De Gea keep Man Utd in last season??? if it weren’t for him then United wouldn’t have made the top four and I think most United fans would agree with me on that one. United don’t have that anymore. A new striker is on United’s agenda which they have to bring in otherwise they are clearly going to lack goals but then the striker has to gel straight away and there’s no certainties that will happen, for me this bet looks a good shout.
Will post more shortly.
Liverpool not to finish in the top four at 11/8
I actually backed Ramses Allison to win the golden glove last week and did so to early as things have changed i have cashed out that bet and taken this on instead. Liverpool will score lots of goals next season i am 100% sure of that in fact i’ll bet they are the top scorers in the EPL but the only problem is i think they will concede a lot also. Two holding midfielders are due to leave in Jordan Henderson and Fabinho after agreeing deals with Saudi clubs and that leaves Jurgen Klopp with a problem to solve. Liverpool were bringing in two more players regardless of them leaving but now he doesn’t have defensive midfielders that know his system. Whoever Klopp does bring in it’s going to take time to adjust and i just can’t see a high finish with this sort of problem. Liverpool games this season are going to be cricket scores as things stand plenty in attack but not enough defensively.
Although the Women’s World Cup has been somewhat of a let down so far, I’m expecting it to kick into life tomorrow.
Analysis of the first few games seems to suggest backing penalties and corners. Apart from the Philippines and Switzerland game the corner count has been remarkably high. As highlighted already – a penalty in every game.
Spain threatened to go goal crazy but failed in the second half. Tomorrow the temptation is to hit a handicap double with the USA and England but with the handicap set around five goals for the USA and England’s baron spell in front of goal It might be safer to swerve this as probably more risk attached to it than not. Both teams should be clearing the respective handicaps quite comfortably though.
The game I’m excited for is the one sandwiched between the two mentioned games.
Zambia look like the kind of team I can get behind. Having beaten Germany 3-2 in their last game after drawing 3-3 with Switzerland and losing 3-2 to Ireland before that, they’re a team that have goals in their side – equally they are likely to concede. Odds of 10/1 for a Zambia win and 11/4 for them to net twice appeals. Whichever way you look at it the game shouts goals and action.

Evening gents,
Iceland for me tonight and I’m taking on Fjolnir’s quest to get back into the Urvalsdeild 🇮🇸
FJÖLNIR VS. ÆGIR (7.30pm)
At first glance, it would look like they’ll win with ease tonight and the 1/4 price reflects that – goals could be the way but I’m not sure that’s the best route needing 5+ goals for just 6/4.
I just think Aegir may hold firm and it may pay to instead go for corners…

Denbigh double chance 5-6 NAP.
Denbigh draw no bet 13-8 NB
Denbigh win 11-5
All at HILLS….
Bit of an inside track on this Elvis?
Not really, they and my team Bangor got promoted last season and denbigh win the league after a long unbeaten run.
They will be better than us this season and are a progressive club with ambitions to go further to the Welsh premier.
The Welsh fa have funded a lot of ground improvements there which has helped them also to budget more on players.
Denbigh also reached the final of the Welsh version of the fa vase for tier 3 and below last season
Don’t know anything about Chirk as I’ve never seen them play to be honest but their history suggests they will be maybe a mid table outfit this season .
It’s their first competitive game of the season and as denbigh have a good record in cups recently I think the might edge it
Final play of the day.

So it’s surgery for me on Monday as my colon is at the point of being completely blocked. Cancer cut out and chemo is the plan. Thanks for all the messages of support over the last few weeks, have helped keep my chin up. See you all on the other side – although hopefully not literally!

Good luck with your bets tonight 👍
It’s not something I like to do but I just think the odds are too good to pass up. Navarro has been hitting good numbers of Double Faults and she has hit 9 in her past 2 matches. She will be under pressure a lot on serve and this match will be a lot closer than her previous 2 matches. As long as she doesn’t get beat easily this should be very close. I was expecting the odds to be closer to 2.0 so I think there is value in the 3.25. I have already done 1 unit and although I do not ideally like to add to units on this occasion I think it is worth a go.
So adding a further 1 unit on (totals 2 units now from the earlier post)
1 unit E Navarro 5+ Double Faults 3.25 Bet365
I will do a recap on everything tomorrow.
Do you think games-wise, that this match is likely to go over 21.5 games mate…
Difficult call. In the juniors Zheng beat Navarro in straight sets on two occasions quite easily but then Navarro won the most recent match again in juniors in 3 sets. However, all of these matches were 3/4 years ago so both have improved a lot since. Zheng has a good serve and a powerful game. If she is hitting the ball well Navarro will find it difficult to keep up with her. For the purpose of the double faults though I would like a very close 2 set or 3 set win for Zheng.
Cheers mate

PSG have put Mbappe up for sale. PSG believe Mbappe has agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next season so they will listen to offers from interested clubs except Real Madrid. PSG have left Mbappe out of their pre season tour as they only want players that are interested in playing for the club.
This is going to be interesting, If PSG do sell him Madrid are going to be p*ssed off.
Not too many can afford him. If the Qatari’s take over United then the money would be there.. I don’t think it’s a coincidence we haven’t signed a striker yet, although it’s looking good for Hojlund
Man Utd couldn’t afford Mbappe even if the takeover goes ahead, financial FairPlay United are on the borderline so whoever takes over needs to sell, not surprising though given how much United have spent in the last ten years. They have already been fined by UEFA in the last few weeks..
At a guess also I would say United would find it impossible at the moment to lure a player of that quality. The world has watched them over the last ten years and they have been a shambles.. No longer can they outprice anyone because they have outpriced themselves and it’s caught up with them.
Dunston V Gateshead “friendly” match tonight.
Two cars – one a hearse – drove onto pitch before game and started doing handbrake turns carving pitch up. Then dumped hearse on pitch and sped off at high speed hitting things on way out. Apparently one of the drivers was armed with a gun.
Seems someone associated with one of the clubs is allegedly a p.éd.o
Footage of the incident is on social media if you search for Dunston V Gateshead
